Welcome! The child and pet friendly 3 bed (king, full, twin)/1 bath/full kitchen, Alpine Studio, on Historic Murphy Street in downtown Alpine, is within walking distance of everything in Alpine and 25 mins from Marfa/Fort Davis/Marathon, 1 hour north of Big Bend National Park and across the street from Amtrak. The Studio is filled with art: open, spacious colorful and charming. Park your car and walk everywhere! Come stargaze and unwind in our lovely backyard!

The space
Alpine is located at "the hub of the wheel" and the neighboring communities of Marfa (West/huge minimalist art scene:Donald Judd), Marathon (East/Gage Hotel), Fort Davis (North: McDonald's Observatory/Historic Fort) are approx. 20 minutes away in any given direction.
The Alpine Studio is 1/2 block south of the Amtrak station (there is train noise /I supply individually wrapped earplugs for sensitive sleepers:). The Holland Hotel is 2 blocks away (nicest hotel in town) and they provide the same for their hotel guests. Murphy Street was Alpine's main street in some of it's earliest years as "Murphyville," before the advent of the railroad.
The Alpine Studio is very spacious with 2 private front entrances and 1 back door leading out to the back yard. It's a 2 bedroom (3 beds- separated by huge curtains) 1 bath with fully stocked kitchen (half size fridge/toaster oven/microwave and single hot plate burner) and enormous sink. The king bed as you enter is a dreamily comfy organic latex mattress. In the next room (separated by curtains) is a full size bed with soft sheets and a light down comforter (nights are chilly in the high desert). There is an additional twin bed in this adjoining room. (Plz note that there is an addtl $10 fee per stay if all 3 beds are utilized). It's quite comfy and spacious :) It is very pet friendly. There are 3 central AC/heat units and laundry facilities on site. Please smoke outdoors ( and remember we're in the beautiful tinder box of the mountainous Chihuahuan desert :)
There are 4 lavender deck chairs in the back yard.
The Alpine Studio is located next door to our other BnB: The Historic Bottle House. Tom Curry Gallery is next door to the Alpine Studio and there are several fun shops (Murphy Street Mercado) and restaurants where you can dine on tasty mexican food (Jalapeños), enjoy delicious coffee/internet and shop for gifts and treasures. The Murphy Street Alpine Farmer's Market is 1 block away on Saturday mornings.
The place is incredibly well located for exploring on foot.
Holland Street is one block north of Murphy Street and it is the "other" main street (on the north side of the "tracks": Amtrak)
Holland Street boasts: The Holland Hotel (2 blocks) with a great bar and restaurant. Across from the Holland is a fab restaurant/bar with gluten free (if you wish) pizza: Guzzi Up. The Saddle Club (lovely bar and tapas/4 blocks away), the Reata restaurant (upscale: 4 blocks), the world famous Railroad Blues honky tonk pub/music venue (4 blocks),the Rangra movie theatre (1 block), several art galleries/fabulous shops (Ivey's, Kiowa Gallery, "yours truly" at Galeria Sibley, ) and locally owned Front Street Books/PLAINE coffee shop (wonderful homemade pastries/cappucinos) with the best West Texas "Cow Dogs" next door (including vegan:)

Family Friendly activities : a llama and burro ranch 10 mins from alpine in beautiful Sunny Glen : Wasserman Wranch
Indoor swimming pool at Sul Ross University is $2.00
Great hiking trail behind Sul Ross University (look for the desk at the top of the mountain and the bicycle art hanging in a tree - HINT - both are on the eastern side of Sul Ross hill looking over a house with domes in the distance :)
The skies in our country are unfathomably clear and beautiful so make sure to schedule a Star Gazing party at McDonald's Observatory in Fort Davis about 45 minutes away. The Fort is also a lovely spot.
Balmorhea boasts the largest spring fed public pool in the state, with amazing cottage rentals..check them out!
Big Bend National Park/the Mexican border are about 45 minutes south. (Terlingua Ghost Town boasts the Starlight Theatre/Restuarant, Desert Sports runs river trips/biking trips: great folk, Lajitas Resort is "lovely.")
Big Bend Ranch State Park tends not to be as busy as BBNP and has a wonderful (and cheap) bunkhouse for accommodations OR the old adobe ranch headquarters that is dreamy. Great camping, hiking, biking etc..The Solitario region is awesome and one of our fave spots.
Other:
Blue Water Grocery Store for organic food on Hwy 118 south.
Saturdays: Farmer's Market from 9 -10:30 am is 1 block away on Murphy Street (be still my heart:) in the old Ritchey Hotel that is being lovingly (and slowly) restored.
Aveda Salon for hair
Call/email me with any questions.
"Neighbor Nancy" has Murphy Street Mercado 3 doors down and is your "go to person" if you have any immediate questions when here or I am a text away :)
Art work in Studio is by Woody Farris (Fredericksburg), Lizanne Thate (F'burg) and Matt Skinner (Alpine, CO), Roger Cutforth (San MIguel), Shiloh Sibley-Curtforth (photography), Bob Bell (Alpine), Karen Nakakihara (Alpine: pottery with whimsical animal designs), Liz Sibley (mosaics- Alpine/Austin) We have more of their "stuff" at Galeria Sibley.
