The Space

Stay 3 nights for £30 a night.

Our property is under renovation. We have completed work on the ground floor. You are welcome to use the sitting room and dining room downstairs. There is a private bathroom for your use only. You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare meals or make your own breakfast.

You will be given a key for your room and the property for the duration of your stay. Your room will be clean, clean bed linen and fresh towels and toiletries in the bathroom. The room also has a tv and tea and coffee making facilities and seating.

The accomodation lies on the Coast to Coast route and provides a good base for visiting Ennerdale Lake (7km), St. Bees (8km), Whitehaven (6km), Cockermouth (20km). Local attractions include Muncaster Castle, Ravensglass and Honister Pass Slate Mine.

Within Cleator Moor there is a Co-op supermarket, pharmacy, doctors, optician, corner shop and a post office a few yards from the house. Parking is available on the street. The closest train station is Whitehaven, take the bus 31 or 31a (Frizington) which passed through Cleator Moor.

Guest Access

You have full use of the kitchen, dining room and sitting room where there is a communal television. There are board games and a small library where you are free to borrow books and browse. You can spend some time in the summer room and you are welcome to play piano if you wish. There is a lovely south facing garden to the rear of the property with two sunbeds and a patio table. You are welcome to use the garden and visit the chickens.

Interaction with Guests

I will interact with you as much or as little as you like. Some guests are very happy to keep to their room and enjoy a quiet stay while others like to sit downstairs and talk to us over the kitchen table.

The Neighborhood

The town of Cleator Moor is small and everything is within walking distance. We are on the edge of town called Wath Brow made famous by the artist Lowry who painted the church in 1948. Even if you are not a serious walker, there are plenty of short and easy walks that provide lovely views of the Lake District Fells. I will be happy to lend you a map and suggest walks to you. There is also a nearby Nature Reserve (once a quarry) where there are rare flowers and fossils can be seen. The best thing about our location is that you can walk to the beach in an hour or walk to Ennerdale Lake in an hour so it really is easy to enjoy your time here.

Getting around

Parking is on the road in front of the house.
Travelling by public transport there is a bus at least every 30 min but more frequent in the day. You can catch buses to Whitehaven, Egremont, Workington and Cockermouth direct from Cleator Moor.
If travelling from the airport, it is easiest to take the train to Whitehaven and then catch a bus or take a short taxi ride to Cleator Moor.

  • Lovely house being lovingly renovated by its owners. A few rough edges here and there due to the renovation work but warm and comfortable and met our needs completely. Yvonne was a delightful host.

  • Our stay at Yvonnes was very pleasant. We were warmly welcomed and communication was great leading up to and throughout our stay. The room was warm and cosy and the location of the house is handy to the sights of Cumbria. We recommend Yvonne's place to anyone wishing to visit this naturally beautiful part of the UK.

  • Very welcoming family. Yvonne and her husband give great tips on trips. Plus: they have a great pub next door. Recommended! Private room and bathroom.

    Response from Yvonne:

Thank you. Just to clarify the pub is nearby and not next door. (website hidden)(phone number hidden)/about?gl=uk&hl=en

  • I stayed one night at Yvonne's home and it was a very nice stay. The room is on the first floor and is very spacious with a double bed and tea/coffee making facilities. The bath/shower room over the hall is very large and the shower was excellent. Overall, a very pleasant place to spend a night.

  • To stay with Yvonne and her family, especially with the five weeks old Yvonne, was very pleasant. They live in a village not far from the sea in a nice part of England. Very recommendable.

Chaplain and Construction
We live in Cumbria - we love living in the countryside but we have both lived in cities in the past. We were married on the 2nd June at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cleator. We enjoy learning about other countries and cultures. We are both 30 years old this year. Peter works in construction and I am a Chaplain, working in Healthcare.
