Victorian property and former pub situated on the edge of the Lake District within walking distance of the sea and mountains. Ideal location for exploring the Lake District and walking. Shops, restaurants and facilities within walking distance.
Our property is under renovation. We have completed work on the ground floor. You are welcome to use the sitting room and dining room downstairs. There is a private bathroom for your use only. You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare meals or make your own breakfast.
You will be given a key for your room and the property for the duration of your stay. Your room will be clean, clean bed linen and fresh towels and toiletries in the bathroom. The room also has a tv and tea and coffee making facilities and seating.
A travel cot is available and accommodation for 2 children in bunk beds in the room next door available at a cost of £10 per child. Travel cot free for children under 2.
The accomodation lies on the Coast to Coast route and provides a good base for visiting Ennerdale Lake (7km), St. Bees (8km), Whitehaven (6km), Cockermouth (20km). Local attractions include Muncaster Castle, Ravensglass and Honister Pass Slate Mine.
Within Cleator Moor there is a Co-op supermarket, pharmacy, doctors, optician, shop and a post office a short distance from the house. Parking is available on the street. The closest train station is Whitehaven, take the bus 31 or 31a (Frizington) which passed through Cleator Moor.
You have full use of the kitchen, dining room and sitting room where there is a communal television. There are board games and a small library where you are free to borrow books and browse. You can spend some time in the summer room and you are welcome to play piano if you wish. There is a lovely south facing garden to the rear of the property with two sunbeds and a patio table. You are welcome to use the garden and visit the chickens.
Interaction with Guests
I will interact with you as much or as little as you like. Some guests are very happy to keep to their room and enjoy a quiet stay while others like to sit downstairs and talk to us over the kitchen table.
The town of Cleator Moor is small and everything is within walking distance. We are on the edge of town called Wath Brow made famous by the artist Lowry who painted the church in 1948. Even if you are not a serious walker, there are plenty of short and easy walks that provide lovely views of the Lake District Fells. I will be happy to lend you a map and suggest walks to you. There is also a nearby Nature Reserve (once a quarry) where there are rare flowers and fossils can be seen. The best thing about our location is that you can walk to the beach in an hour or walk to Ennerdale Lake in an hour so it really is easy to enjoy your time here.
Parking is on the road in front of the house.
Travelling by public transport there is a bus at least every 30 min but more frequent in the day. You can catch buses to Whitehaven, Egremont, Workington and Cockermouth direct from Cleator Moor.
If travelling from the airport, it is easiest to take the train to Whitehaven and then catch a bus or take a short taxi ride to Cleator Moor.

Tucked away near Ennerdale, Yvonne and her husband made us feel welcome from the start. A spacious room greeted us, with plenty of storage and space to unpack our ridiculous amount of luggage for one night. Yvonne is very relaxed and little Yvonne/Yvonne Jr is a ball of energy that will brighten up any damp and windy day. A huge well finished bathroom is yours to use, so in actual fact you get 3 times the space of a hotel for a fraction of the price. I can't fault our stay, this is a secluded gem.
Yvonne and her family made us feel most welcome, there home is still under renovation as it says, but this doesn't make you uncomfortable, the bedroom is spacious and warm, the bathroom a dream.
I would be more than happy to stay here again
We didn't stay here and did not meet the hosts. From the pictures it looks nice and the response from host during booking was prompt and friendly.
Yvonne and Peter's served as a comfortable and convenient overnight stop for us while we were doing the C2C by bike. They were welcoming as hosts and recommended a lovely pub down the road for dinner.
We stopped there while doing coast to coast trail, only about a mile off the trail. The house is absolutely beautiful, room very spacious and the bathroom amazing! Yvonne gave us a great dinner recommendation. If we're ever around again, we would definitely stay with Yvonne again.
We only had one night here as it was more of a convenient stop-over. Wonderful house, bathroom was very spacious and lovely. Kind hosts, everything we needed.
