Welcome to the 869 Compound! Located on the best street in Philly, the 869 Compound is a very unique property that consists of a row home (fronts to the street) and a rear carriage house (which is only accessed by a private alleyway entrance). I purchased the Compound in 2008 and spent 2yrs gutting and rehabbing the property. Utilizing salvaged materials and a touch of creativity I created a place i'm proud to call home! I would love to share my space and help you experience Philly the way it was meant to be. Guest will have their own private bedroom in the rear carriage house I call the Spunker Bunker. The Spunker Bunker sleeps 2 in the loft on a full sized bed and may also accommodate a full sized air mattress on the floor if need be. Guests will have access to their own full bathroom and will share the kitchen, living room, and dining room with myself and a brown dog named Max.
Amenities include: Free WiFi throughout the house, Awesomely Amazing Kitchen, walking distance to numerous cafe's, bars, and sites, the best brunch spot in Philly (Honey's Sit 'n Eat) is one block away, free use of the Compound Cruiser (vintage '50's bicycle), free street parking, access to private courtyard, green roof deck, and breakfast deck off of the 2nd floor kitchen/dinning room.
I am 28 year old Mechanical Engineer and work for Livingsocial Adventures part-time on the weekends. The front house of the Compound consists of my childhood amigo from Ohio, my Livingsocial Adventures co-worker, Jessie, and our good friend Melissa. The rear carriage house where i live (and you will be staying) is separated from the front house by a common courtyard that is ritually used for our hangout space on summer nights. We are all a very social bunch and can't wait to make your acquaintance!
You're not just getting a place to stay, you're getting an awesome and unique lodging experience!
Talk to you soon!

Gavni´s Apartment was amazing. It´s a very nice place worth to stay in for more than just 2 nights. When we arrived there, it was a little bit akward, because we didm´t know, how to handle with all the interior, but finally when we met gavin everything was just so cool. He welcomed us like we knew each other before and the place itself is amazing. I really recommend to stay at Gavin´s place, i wish we´ve could stay longer, to get in touch with him a little bit more.
Really cool space that felt very private despite not being a "complete room." Beautiful common areas and great location, right near Honey's Sit n Eat.
Great place to stay, absolutely recommendable. You can walk the city from gavins house. Nice house, lot of facilities and much attentions to us
The Spunker Bunker, Gavin, Amanda & Max made my first time Philly trip experience that much more amazing! As soon as I first stepped in this crazy, beautiful pad, I felt as though I never left home! The vibe is so cozy & welcoming. The neighborhood is so cute & trendy. This dynamic trio definitely added pizazz to my travels. Gavin & Amanda were both beyond kind & helpful! Max is just the cutest brown dog you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting! I miss them all already! Thank you for your hospitality & for the great laughs! I would definitely recommend this place! I cannot wait to come back to visit the Spunker Bunker!
We had a lovely time in our trip to Philadelphia, but the Spunker Bunker was a big let down. The loft listed is a 7x7 foot space behind the laundry room up a cheaply made set of stairs. How 4 could sleep there is beyond me - the bed fully takes up 3/4 of the room wall to wall. Calling it a separate room is a stretch too. There is no wall separating the room from the rest of the house and there is only a thin wall between the room and the kitchen.
We weren't looking for much more than a decent crash pad while we visited Philly and the space didn't really offer that. If you're going to be spending more time around the house (and less in the room), definitely check it out. The pictures and description of the rest of the property are pretty accurate - it's incredible. Unfortunately, that makes the contrast between the front of the house and the listed back of the house that much more stark.
After staying at Gavin's, Philly is now probably my favorite city on the East Coast. Not only is his home one the nicest places you'll ever find on AirBnb, he'll guide you to all the cool spots in town. And contrary to what New Yorkers might say, there are loads.
If he finds the time in his busy schedule and invites you to hang out with him and his friends: do it and you'll go home with a few more cool stories under your belt.
This place was definitely the coolest place we have ever stayed at. There were so many amazing things inside of this apartment. Architecturally, it was amazing. We, unfortunately, weren't able to meet Gavin, but he remained extremely accessible during our stay. We certainly recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in a prime area in Philly. We drove and were so close to all of the places we wanted to explore. We will certainly be back!!
This place was amazing. The architectural details and furnishings were so unique. Such an interesting layout, truly creatively inspiring. Not to mention, it was clean, safe, great location. We had a blast. Gavin, thanks so much.
Stayed with Gavin for 1 month while rotating at Drexel. He was out of town working alot so we didnt cross paths much. He took me out once with his friends which was nice of him. House is great. Nicest dog ever. Neighborhood is nice and safe at night. 10min walk to train station and bus stops nearby. Definitely recommend.
Gavin's place is a great place to stay. The house is really cool and the view from the roof is excellent. Didn't get to see Gavin himself but Amanda was an amazing host. Helping us find all the amazing places to see in Philly and even taking us out for a great night. Very chilled and cool place to stay if you want to visit Philly!
