Mountain Guesthouse: Stunning View

House - Entire home/apt · Croydon Lane, Topanga, CA 90290, United States

The Space

Nestled in the mountains just off the coast between Santa Monica & Malibu, escape the city to our recently remodeled gorgeous guest house in picturesque Topanga Canyon. Conveniently located 7 minutes from Topanga Beach (known for its surfing), 20 minutes from Santa Monica, Malibu or Woodland Hills and 35 minutes from Hollywood, we're the perfect local getaway!

Desirable climate-perfect Upper Fernwood residential neighborhood. Designed by Bill Adams, the guest house features an open loft floor plan, with tons of light. Recent renovation and unusual architectural details make this property a fun place to spend some time. The kitchen (with granite countertops, wood cabinets, gas stove, refrigerator) opens to the loft-like living space with vaulted ceiling and floor to ceiling windows overlooking Santa Monica Mountains/Topanga State Park, which open via sliding glass doors onto private deck with views. Full bath with stained glass window also located on main floor. Guest House features an additional sleeping loft which we ask guests not to use as the staircase is steep and there is no railing for the loft platform. Driveway accommodates 1 car comfortably and 2 if parked one in front of other.

Ideal for 1 or 2 people.

On the ocean side of the canyon, but very close to 'town', including Topanga State Park with hiking, biking, wildlife observation and horseback riding all at your fingertips. 3 minutes downhill to the center of town (Abuelita's, Hidden Treasures, Topanga Farmers' Market, The Inn of the Seventh Ray, Theatricum Botanicum). Explore the Santa Monica Pier, the 3rd Street Promenade, the Santa Monica Farmers Market, and in the summer catch a Twilight Dance Series Concert on Thursday nights on the pier. Cruise up the legendary scenic PCH (Route 1) 6 miles to Malibu and discover some of California's most beautiful beaches.

Wifi included. No TV (we're analog except for the internet). Fall asleep to a symphony of frogs & crickets after an evening of effortless stargazing, and awake to the sounds of an aviary.

No smoking please. No additional guests without prior approval from hosts.

PLEASE NOTE: Photos are an exact representation of the space. The guest house is on the same property as the main house, separated by 15 feet of deck but has its own driveway, entrance and is a completely separate freestanding structure. Privacy is not an issue. Cellular phone service (making actual phone calls) can be spotty depending on your carrier. We have Verizon and get good reception. Text and email work well, and the wifi network is strong. Special pricing for major holidays.

  • Wonderful stay at Topanga! The place is clean, quiet, has all you need for a short stay and it's just half an hour drive to LA. I strongly recommend it if you want to stay in a peaceful surrounding, with a beautiful view, and yet so close to the city. Emily & Eamon were perfect! I hardly met them but they were always there to quickly respond to my requests. Whenever in the LA area, I will definitely come back.

  • We had a wonderful stay. The guest house was clean, charming and had a beautiful view. Clear communication made the whole thing easy. Topanga canyon area as a whole was also exactly what we wanted- quiet, full of nature and "out of the city" without being that far away. Our host recommendations of where to eat and what to do were spot on. We'd definitely consider going back.

  • Eamon & Emily have a wonderful house to rent, it is situated in stunning surroundings and is a joy to visit. The guesthouse was clean, cosy, and just perfect! Even with the property on the same land, they were respectful of my privacy, and very friendly when we finally met! Would recommend to anyone and would stay again in a heartbeat!

P.S. The frequent visiting hummingbirds were so cute

  • We had an absolutely wonderful time at Eamon & Emily's guest house! They were such great hosts! The guest house is spacious for two people, and has all of the creature comforts anyone could need. The bed is very comfortable, all of the linens were clean and fresh, and they even left coffee, tea and condiments for us to enjoy. The views outside the guesthouse are truly breathtaking. It's amazing how you can feel like you're in the middle of mountain country but only be a few short minutes from the PCH, Santa Monica, and the hustle and bustle of LA. Some people have commented on a "harrowing" drive up the mountain road to reach Eamon & Emily's guest house. I live in Minnesota where an ant hill is considered a mountain, and I can guarantee you that the drive is not as scary as it's made out to be. Just take it slow and make sure you're aware of oncoming traffic. I actually enjoyed the drive up and down the hill. You will see all kinds of different homes and structures perched on the side of the mountain. The is a small grocery store/market in the town of Topenga where you can get basic food items and beer/wine. Also, make sure to do some hiking. The scenic vistas from near the Guest House are very beautiful. We visited duringa a rain storm that lasted almost three days, but we still got some good hiking in. And Topenga State Park is just a few miles away. And again, Eamon and Emily will make sure you have everything you need. My wife and I never got to meet them in person, but they did send us a note via Airbnb midtrip to make sure we had everything we needed. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the LA/Santa Monica area!
