Interaction with guests

I love a good chat, but respect your privacy. We provide an affordable alternative to over-priced hotels, just be mindful of the fact that you're in our home. Our home is ideally suited for tourists who will spend most of the day out and about, not homebodies who want to sleep until noon and come home late.

The neighborhood

Forest Glen was established in 1961. We're situated near a beautifully expansive forest, close lots of great restaurants and public transportation along Columbia Pike and just four miles to historic Ft. Myer and the awe-inspiring Air Force Memorial.

Getting around

16G metro bus stop is visible from our home, a taxi/uber ride will get you to the National Mall in approximately 12-15 minutes as long as it's not rush hour.

Other things to note

If you request a late check-out, I'm happy to store your luggage in the hallway but ask that you vacate the room by 11am so I can begin cleaning for the next guest. I often do this during my lunch break. It's easiest to communicate with me via text since I'm a musician who can't talk on the phone during rehearsals or performances.

House Rules
No smoking
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
Check in time is 4PM - 10PM

Absolutely no smoking indoors or overnight guests who are not part of the original booking! Please do not ask to have packages mailed to our home. Besides that, we're a pretty tolerant family who have had mostly good experiences so far. Check in is after 4 pm and BEFORE 10pm. If you must check in late, please call/text and be mindful of that fact that we're upstairs sleeping so keep noise to a minimum. We may be able to accommodate a slightly earlier check-in on some days if you contact us ahead of time. We also ask that you do not come upstairs unless invited since we both work odd hours and often have irregular sleep schedules. With that said, we're definitely not a good fit for couples who like to lounge around all day. If you want that kind of privacy, we're not the right fit for you. Lastly, if you have questions or concerns even when we're home, just send a text to make sure we're available, thanks!

This was such a wonderful and comfortable place to stay at! Julie was great with introducing us to every thing and telling us all about what's going on in Arlington/D.C. Especially the restaurants to check out and many different things to do. Great location just outside of D.C. that made for a quick trip to and from the house. Definitely recommend and hope to stay here again one day!

I travel to Arlington at least once a month and I try to stay at Julie's whenever it s available as it is the best place I have been in radius of several miles. Yet, everytime I go, she has improved the place a bit. It is practically a small apartment with bedroom, bathroom and a small kitchenette area.... clean and spacious, you can't find better than that. Julie and her family are also wonderful, very welcoming. Julie's place is popular and hard to find available, but if you are that lucky, don't let it pass by.... got for it!

Julie's place is cute, easily accessible and self-contained. We were easily able to come and go as needed and had everything we needed at our fingertips, include a great little kitchenette. The bedroom and bathroom suite locked, so we had complete privacy. Everything was meticulously clean and organized. Also, the room included a giant Metro map and local takeout menus, as well as local guide and history books, so we could easily find everything we needed! Julie was very flexible and friendly about our arrival and checkin arrangements. I would absolutely stay there again.

Julie and her family are wonderful hosts. I appreciated that they nearly adopted me as a member ifvtheir family, while still respecting my privacy and my need for a quiet place during my visit. The room is as others have accurately described: clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, and having all one needs for a short stay. The snacks were thoughtful; the shower was great. And the old growth forest and trails a few houses down the road was an unexpected pleasure. Thanks, Julie, Alexis and Joe.

Julie User ProfileJulie is a superhost.

love all kinds of music, friendly stray cats, other peoples' dogs; inspired by bold art, nature, and people who make me think.

Our home is in Arlington, part of the original grid for DC. You'll find authentic Ethiopian, Guatemalan, El Salvadorean, great pubs and plenty of American fare along Columbia Pike, Arlington's original Main Street. We're 2 miles from Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse. If you want a truly local experience, admission is FREE during American football season. Food and entertainment aside, the best perk is the expansive Glencarlyn Forest at the end of our street, a literal runners and bicycle riders oasis.

As a musician, I've traveled extensively and spent many nights in hotels or with host families. I'm enjoying being on the other end as a host who can provide weary travelers with a good night's rest that is better than what you would get at a noisy over-priced chain hotel in the city. Come find out for yourselves what makes our home the "Best of Both Worlds."
