About this listing
Cozy second-floor private room and shared bath with your own entrance. We have dedicated the house to Airbnb guests. We have a dog with character, named "The Professor," who will want to meet you and chat about politics but he's not very cuddly.
You'll love this cozy corporate room at 9th and F NE for the privacy and convenience in a fantastic classic Capitol Hill residence with access to all areas of the house including our new Pub in the basement.
In a very laidback, lifestyle-friendly, landlord-occupied house-to-share, you'll enjoy relaxing with a glass of wine on the main floor and light conversation--or a game of tug-o-war with our dog, Chuck E--or you can quietly relax on the back patio and then escape to the total privacy of your room.
We have wireless internet, Direct HD TV, and a gourmet kitchen in a relaxed urban country setting. The main floor is awesome and includes a baby grand piano, surround sound seating, and plenty of nooks to sit and read, do computer work, or chat with a glass of wine. Your bathroom is directly connected to the room but shared with one other person from another entry. Usually that's me or some other personal guest of mine only.
Location: Capitol Hill NE, one block from major DC Metro Bus lines and about nine blocks from each of two major DC Metro Rail Stations (Union Station and Eastern Market). Both bus lines have stops at either Metro Station and cab fare is not that bad to anywhere in the city. Stroll to the US Capitol diagonally down Maryland Ave (less than 1 mile) or meander to observe the unique architecture and the gardens of homes on Capitol Hill.
Venture out to the hot new H Street Atlas District for DC's most up-and-coming eclectic neighborhood, which is only two blocks away but insolated from the bustle.
Towels, Linens, and Coffee/Tea service included. An offstreet parking option is available to keep your car if you do not plan to use it very much or you do not want to register your vehicle in DC.
I truly enjoyed my time at Patrick's home. He was an accommodating host. Whether conversation or quiet, he had no problem providing either. Actually, Chuck, his professor dog was the real host. The room was comfortable and had all amenities necessary including coffee/tea on the desk beside the bed. Bath was connected to bedroom and although he indicated it was shared with him, he made it a point to give me private usage. Kitchen, patio and living area are all accessible. Wonderful neighborhood and even more wonderful home.
I was only there to pretty much sleep. I was out and about in the city. The place was very clean and tidy. When I was packing up my stuff I left a pair of jeans and Patrick hunted me down on 9th street to give them back to me. Great host. Would of seen him more probably if I wasn't always out in the city.
The neighborhood and their particular location was perfect for my needs. It's on Capitol Hill and both quite close to the Mall and restaurants. It was super convenient to have an front door entry code to use. I didn't have to deal with carrying a key when I went running and it made checkout even easier. Patrick also provided a coffee maker and light snacks in my room. The internet was good as well and it was nice having a desk. Having a door directly into the bathroom meant not having to get dressed and go out into a hall. Patrick was friendly and accommodating. There was one plumbing issue the first night, but he had it fixed within a day. I'd stay there again.
Patrick and his "professor" dog were very welcoming and very responsive. I stayed in the Sojourner room, which has a shared bathroom with the host. The room was smaller than it looked in the picture. I see he has lowered the price to $ 75 and this is more reasonable. There was a problem with the shower water, but he immediately gave me a one night refund when he found out it inconvenienced me. He also gave me coffee when I noted there was none in the room. He is very responsive to issues.
Enjoyed my stay in Washington DC with Patrick and Chuck. Although this was my first time
staying alone in the U.S., the place made me feel like home. The route to Union Station
is not far (about 10 mins walk) but it may be a problem if you are carrying large and heavy baggage.
The room is small and cozy and you share a private bathroom with Patrick, but I have never seen
him use it whenever I am around. As what I mentioned to Patrick, out of so many foreign places I have slept in
so far, this was the first one that I managed to sleep through the whole night.
Patrick and I have common topics regarding technology and Chuck shares the same food interest as me (cheese).
Too bad my time spent in DC was too short, however, I enjoyed the company of Patrick and Chuck during
these few days.
This is my second time staying here. Patrick is always a very good host. He's quick to respond to emails/texts. His apartment is the most "user friendly" apartment you could every find on Airbnb, I can basically use everything in the house. The location again very great, close to everything. Patrick's house will always be my No. 1 choice when i come to DC area.
Patrick was nice and welcoming. The dog is a barker but not mean. The Sojourner's Room is a small room with a private bath. The room was neat and there were coffee and tea supplies in the room. The location is a shortish walk to Union Station. I would definitely stay again.

About the Host, Patrick
I enjoy hosting an awesome house-to-share situation in Capitol Hill. My residence includes character, charm, and an awesome history of guests with fond memories and tales of their stay in DC on the Hill. My other listings are studios or efficiencies in Baltimore MD in a lovely historic building in Mt Vernon with all the modern conveniences of a chic and comfy residence.
