About This Listing
Cozy second-floor private room and shared bath with your own entrance. We have dedicated the house to Airbnb guests. We have a dog with character, called The Professor who will want to meet you and chat about politics but not very cuddly.
You'll love this cozy corporate room at 9th and F NE for the privacy and convenience in a fantastic classic Capitol Hill residence with access to all areas of the house including our new Pub in the basement.
In a very laidback, lifestyle-friendly, landlord-occupied house-to-share, you'll enjoy relaxing with a glass of wine on the main floor and light conversation--or a game of tug-o-war with our dog, Chuck E--or you can quietly relax on the back patio and then escape to the total privacy of your room.
We have wireless internet, Direct HD TV, and a gourmet kitchen in a relaxed urban country setting. The main floor is awesome and includes a baby grand piano, surround sound seating, and plenty of nooks to sit and read, do computer work, or chat with a glass of wine. Your bathroom is directly connected to the room but shared with one other person from another entry. Usually that's me or some other personal guest of mine only.
Location: Capitol Hill NE, one block from major DC Metro Bus lines and about nine blocks from each of two major DC Metro Rail Stations (Union Station and Eastern Market). Both bus lines have stops at either Metro Station and cab fare is not that bad to anywhere in the city. Stroll to the US Capitol diagonally down Maryland Ave (less than 1 mile) or meander to observe the unique architecture and the gardens of homes on Capitol Hill.
Venture out to the hot new H Street Atlas District for DC's most up-and-coming eclectic neighborhood, which is only two blocks away but insolated from the bustle.
Towels, Linens, and Coffee/Tea service included. An offstreet parking option is available to keep your car if you do not plan to use it very much or you do not want to register your vehicle in DC.
I stayed here for a few days while I was visiting friends in the city. Overall, I was very happy with my stay in the Sojourner's room, and would definitely recommend this to just about anyone who was visiting DC.
Location: While my local friends were concerned where they saw where I was (it's not directly on any metro line), I found that it was just a quick walk to Union Station, which is a major transport hub, as well as a 15-20min walk to the Eastern Market area, which has great dining options. H Street, which is a few blocks away is also a true dining gem. As a young woman along in the city, I asked Patrick for advice for where it was safe to be out, and I was glad I did. In general, I avoided walking around the area at night or asked Patrick about where to go. In the daytime, I felt completely safe.
Room: Small, but had everything I needed. The room, and the house as a whole, are beautifully decorated, and bursting with personality. The bathroom is gorgeous. Everything is clean and modern. The wifi was sufficient.
Host: Patrick is extremely welcoming. So welcoming, in fact, that I went sailing with him and a few of his friends during my stay. It was truly one of the highlights of my stay in DC! Patrick goes to great lengths to provide amenities (like a coffee maker in the room) and makes your stay as effortless as it needs to be. He also had great advice for places to eat, and how to best explore the surrounding neighborhood. Regarding Chuck, I would say that those afraid of dogs should take caution with this listing. Chuck barks loudly, but Patrick is always in control. For anyone who is OK with or indifferent about dogs (like myself), I found this to be no problem at all.
Patrick was a wonderful host! He pretty much welcomed me as a part of his family. He let me have my own space. Also the neighborhood is very quite, I was able to focus on my own work without getting distracted. His location is also a transport friendly; it was very convenient for me to go to the convention center. A great place to stay if you are coming to D.C. for work :)
This was my first airbnb experience. It was excellent, and I will definitely become a regular customer. My host, Patrick, was at home when I arrived and gave me a great welcome. He was easy to chat with and seemed happy to spend time acquainting me with the place and the neighborhood. His house is delightful: spotless, interesting, comfortable, and in a quiet neighborhood. My room had everything I needed: a very comfortable bed, adjacent private bathroom, tea/coffee and treats (cookies, snacks and chocolate), Direct TV, an alarm clock, adequate lighting, fan and air-conditioning. I felt safe walking to and from Union Station (~15 minutes) and Patrick gave me suggestions for a breakfast stop in the morning. All in all I couldn't have had a better experience.
Great location and comfortable house as described. I only used the room rather than stay in any communal areas because I was out sightseeing all day, but 'The Professor' was a bit obnoxious upon any entry of any person into the home barking loudly nonstop and was not friendly (as described).
WIFI, bathroom, and towels were all clean nice and comfortable.
Unfortunately, this was a busy time with lots of anxiety for me and my dog in a work from home situation that was particularly noticeable to this guest. Chuck does bark very loudly at times to folks who first meet him and it's worse with anxiety. He eventually settles down but as this was a short stay that did not happen. We never described him as "friendly" in the post but I would not say that he isn't. He likes to communicate a lot :-)
Patrick's place was just as described. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom very accessible and only shared by one other. Things were clean and I was free to borrow a couple of wine glasses that my daughter and I used for a drink out on the patio. Despite the full house of people, it was a quite place to be and I slept soundly. I didn't get the opportunity to meet Patrick, but his house guest was very accommodating and even offered us an umbrella to use when it looked like rain. It's a straight walk down to the Capital area so easy access to everything on that end of the National Mall. There are grocery stores nearby and a bike rental place just a block or so away. Very enjoyable stay; recommend it highly.
It was a great pleasure to stay at Patrick's place. The house was clean, cozy, and at a perfect location! Patrick is not only a great host, but also a very sincere and friendly person. I am grateful for this experience and I strongly recommend this place! Thank you for everything!

About the Host, Patrick
I enjoy hosting an awesome house-to-share situation in Capitol Hill. My residence includes character, charm, and an awesome history of guests with fond memories and tales of their stay in DC on the Hill. I've recently lowered my prices to accommodate for the DC Hotel Tax that guests now have pay to Airbnb beginning in February 2015. My other listing in Baltimore MD is a private corporate efficiency in a lovely historic building in Mt Vernon with all the modern conveniences of a chic and comfy residence.
