The Space

Its an "atelier d'artiste", 70 m2 in Montparnasse.

One big bed room in a mezzanine under the "verriere", always lightly.
A big living room, with a large dining table,
american kitchen, separate bath room, with bath tub and shower.

A very nice atmosphere and very quiet.

Furnished with country and old furniture, lots of painting.

It is not a modern loft, but it has a soul.

In a classified closed courtyard, with a lot of "ateliers"very special , where Soutine , Erik Satie and Jean Cocteau used to live and work. The courtyard is visited by a touristic tour with a guide quite often.( see the picture)

You are exactly in the heart of the creative, artistic and intellectual life of Montparnasse. Where all Americans writers as Hemingway, Scott Fitzgerald, Henry Miller, Anais Nin used to hang around since 1925.
Where all the big parties of those "crazy years " started, mixing artists, writers, famous and beautiful people.
It is not like that any more but the atmosphere is still there.
For a Parisian, i know how much i'm blessed to live in such a rare place.
You will have to discover it to understand what i am talking about.

  • Gaelle's apartment, while located wonderfully centrally in the heart of Paris' Montparnasse, is spacious and quiet. The somewhat disorderliness of the house adds to its bohemian charm. Gaelle, moreover, was really helpful and friendly. We can definitely recommend it.

  • We stayed in Gaelle's apartment for a long weekend in late October. Gaelle was very helpful in advance of our stay and left plenty of guides on the table for our arrival.

On the good side; the location is excellent with lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. It is within walking distance of Notre Dame and (if you feel like a good walk) the Eiffel Tower in within distance. The apartment is good size with plenty of light and was warm enough, though we were not there in winter.

On the bad side; the apartment was not clean. This is disappointing given that a large cleaning fee (€70) was charged. The fridge was dirty and the cutlery and glasses needed to be washed before use. In general, the apartment is quite dated and run down, though maybe this is part of its charm.

If it had been properly cleaned I would have been far happier. Perhaps this was a once off slip up, so I don't want to be too harsh. Overall, not a bad spot based on good location.

  • Our stay at Gaëlle's was great. The apartment is just like in the pictures - very spacious and bright. The area is nice and quiet with a lot of restaurants and shops nearby. The metro is just a couple of minutes walk away.

Gaëlle was an excellent host, very communicative. All the arrangements went smoothly. She made sure we knew everything we needed. The home book - with suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing - was a really nice touch.

All and all - a great experience. Would definitely recommend.

  • Gaëlle's apartment was perfectly located for us: a 10 min walk to Gare Montparnasse, the Luxembourg park, many restaurants, theaters, and movie theaters, and a few minutes away for multiples Metro lines that connect to all the different parts of paris. Gaëlle was very friendly and flexible. The loft has a lot of charm, it is very quiet, and we felt at home very rapidly; the large windows bring a lot of light. Overall, a great experience!

  • This light-filled artist loft in the heart of Paris was the perfect writing spot for my 3-week jaunt in Montparnasse. Gaëlle was a wonderful hostess--greeted me at the nearby cafe, treated me to tea, helped with my luggage, and introduced me to the cafe owners. She was also very communicative before my arrival.

The location can't be beat, the bathtub was a sweet respite, and the washing machine made my long-term stay easy. Her kitchen has all you could ever need and the long kitchen table was lovely for writing and art journaling.

A large Monoprix is within walking distance for your staples and the bi-weekly farmers' market is dreamy. I loved visiting Simone de (email hidden) du Montparnasse {around the corner from the apartment} and taking in films at one of the many nearby cinemas.

I highly recommend this space for an artsy escape in the City of Light. x
