The Space

Congratulations... you just found the perfect accommodations. The master bedroom in this 1000 square foot luxurious and uncommonly spacious 1 bedroom can accommodate two people very comfortably and has the energy of an eclectic travelers home that’s been created with love and care. As well, it has a beautiful bathroom (that's bigger than most studio apartments in Manhattan) with wall to wall mirrors and an antique cast iron bathtub. Additionally Guests will have access to eat in kitchen and massive sunlit living room with dining room table and room to do yoga and stretch in front of the bay windows.

As a seasoned traveler I completely understand the how much better a trip can be when you have a comfortable place to come back to at an affordable price. Whether you're here for business or pleasure, first-timer or have experienced New York several times over, as a native New Yorker, I can help make your trip as memorable as possible by helping you discover all the city has to offer or if you prefer, just let you navigate on your own.

My apartment, located in the historic neighborhood of Harlem, one of NYC’s most diverse, authentic and vibrant neighborhoods, is in a pre-war townhouse and the old world charm of the turn of the century New York style architecture. The most room and comfort you will find in Manhattan in this price range without a doubt.

12 foot ceilings and tons of natural light pour in through the bay windows all day accenting the original moldings and detailing. The big and spacious living room has an ornamental fireplace and queens size fold-out futon couch. Desk and office space for working and a large dining room table that folds out to seat up to 10, as well as a cozy eat in kitchen. The full kitchen comes with all the necessities to prepare a feast or a quick bite. The master bedroom bedroom hosts a queen size bed, fire place and a cozy reading/relaxing nook by the window to drink tea or read, which can also seat a group of up to 5 (practically a private living room).

If you've come on a leisure trip or want to relax during your stay and have gourmet prepared breakfasts during your time here, I offer a wonderful breakfast menu of the day. For a little extra charge, choose from fresh baked muffins and omelets, to smoothies and organic juices. Whether its healthy and delicious vegan or classic NY style brunch, I can prepare wholesome and delicious meals to suit any taste. One less thing to worry about and make you visit that much more delicious :)
I have lived here for some time now and can testify to this being a very safe area with the best neighbors and a real community feeling. My female friends walk around here at any hour and always feels safe. The apartment is conveniently located a few blocks walk from the 1, A, B, C, and D train which connect you to any part of the city quickly. Or if you’re coming by car, the area always has parking unlike almost anywhere else in Manhattan.

Our neighborhood is host to a slew of great restaurants and other things you might need. Right down the block you will find a laundromat, supermarket, and favorite Italian restaurant ‘Tonalis’ (try the pear martinis), as well as beautiful Riverside Park which spans the length of Manhattan and has lanes for jogging and biking to any where on the west side. Be sure to also check out sights to the north like The Cloisters Museum and Gardens and Inwood Park, the only original untouched woodlands on the island left. A quick train ride will also take you to all the major area of the city:
10 minutes ride to Central Park
15 mins to Columbus Circle
20 mins to mid-town/42nd street
30 minutes to battery park city and world trade center

Amidst gorgeous 19th century architecture and great restaurants, you can find everything from fancy cocktails, and chick lounges, to jazz music and world class museums. If interested I can send you a newsletter about all Harlems offerings. And don't forget to sample the authentic and inexpensive Mexican food which is a specialty of the area.

While guests are staying I will be occupying the fold out sofa in the living room in the evening, which will fold up in morning and converts back into the couch by the time you wake up.

Hosting is of the things that I do best and I provide the kind of hospitality and space that will make you feel at home. Safe Travel... looking forward to meeting you!

  • Ariel was great! Extremely helpful and patient, though my friend and I were a little over 2 hours late for our check in. He was personable and seemed like a really relaxed and go with the flow kind of guy, a real people person. His place was very clean and neat. Great location, we had no troubles getting to our destinantion (once we figured out how to navigate the subway). There was no akwardeness. Generally a nice guy, would definetly stay there again, if he allowed it, and would recommend it to anyone.

  • We had a great time at Ariel's place. The apartment is spacious and Ariel is a welcoming host. He respected our privacy entirely, and last but not least he's a good cook.

  • I had a really pleasant stay at Ariel's place. It is clean, comfy, cute. He made me feel comfortable, and was really laid back. His uncle was also very accommodating, and they were really sweet to have a drink with me on my birthday!! I enjoyed learning about their international projects. The only uncomfortable part was that we stayed in the only bedroom, while they slept on the couch. I felt a little bad!

  • Ariel and his uncle were extremely friendly and very helpful. They made our stay very comfortable and enjoyable with their hospitality. The apartment itself was very accessible as well and therefore it saved us a lot of travelling time enabling us to visit more places in our very short stay in new york. Overall, a good experience.

  • For my first trip to NYC, I wanted to immerse myself with the locals, etc. And after researching lots of places on this site, I zeroed in on Ariel's.

The accommodations are as described with a comfy Queen bed and a fairly large bathroom. The location is in Harlem, but it's a quick walk from the 1 subway line, which takes you downtown to all the hotspots that Manhattan has offer. I've walked around at 2am in the morning, etc. And the neighborhood feels pretty safe.

As a host, Ariel is great. Communications is a breeze and he is very open and flexible about everything. I've also enjoyed the conversations with him and his uncle, Esteban about art, society, etc. And I've learned a lot from my stay there.

The only con would probably be Ariel having to sleep on the living room as I occupy the master bedroom. But I suppose, that just shows how gracious he is.

If you're looking for new experiences and on a budget, I definitely recommend staying at Ariel's!

  • Ariel is an absolutely wonderful host - he's the kind of guy you'd like to meet up and hang out with after your stay is over. He has a gorgeous apartment too. The rooms are beautiful and calming, there's A/C, all in all it's a really fantastic place to come home to and rest from a busy day exploring NYC. Can't recommend Ariel or his home enough, it was exactly what we were looking for and more.

  • Imagine the most gracious host you could reasonably expect, and multiple that by 10 to arrive at a modest description of Ariel. He made us immediately feel welcome, and is a pleasure to spend time with.

The apartment is spacious, soothing, and decorated with a quiet and slightly mystical aesthetic. The space was immaculate yet welcoming and warm. We stayed in the master bedroom, which has a very large private bathroom.

On the morning of our first day, Ariel guided us through a wonderful yoga session, then prepared a delicious vegan breakfast (the veganism was our request, he is quite the chef and will make something to suit you for a small fee beyond the room rate).

This is our first time using AirBnB, and we loved it. We recommend Ariel hands down.

Pre-School Teacher
Hello friends and fellow travelers, My name is Ariel Figueroa. I was born and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and have lived there most of my life until recently moving to Harlem. I am an elementary school teacher, a yoga instructor and an avid traveler. After traveling all over the world, and living overseas for a while in Spain and South America, I have settled down in the historic neighborhood of Harlem in Upper Manhattan, in the city of my birth. When not working, you will most likely find me cooking with friends, scouting outdoor music and dance events, sunbathing in the beautiful parks of NY, and doing and teaching yoga around the city. I maintain a healthy lifestyle with my diet and exercise, but also love to let loose and I can throw a world class dance party. Since I was a teenager I have been embarking on adventures all over the world and have stayed from huts in the Amazon, to hostels in Argentina to 5 star hotels in Amsterdam. Traveling has always been one of the greatest joys in my life and I have long been wanting to share this with others. I think I have always been a host by nature. My home has always been the center of my social and family circles. From family gatherings to dinner parties to friends coming in from out of town, I take great pleasure in creating spaces of comfort and homeyness and look forward to sharing that with you.
