The apartment is near the corner of E. 4th Street and Bowery in the absolute center of downtown Manhattan bordering NOHO, East Village, Lower East Side, SOHO and Greenwich Village and Union Square, the West Village, Little Italy and Chinatown are within a very short walk. Brooklyn is also a quick subway trip on a number of subway lines.

Some of the coolest places to eat are all within blocks. Foodies love this neighborhood because there are so many amazing restaurants and food experiences of all levels in the neighborhood. Some of my favorites that are super close in the hood are Katz Deli, Momofuku, The Smile, Shabu Tatsu, Prune, Bond St, Il Buco, Frank and literally countless others. There are also some good spots for vegans, paleo etc like Caravan of Dreams, Dirt Candy, Liquiteria Juice Bar, The Juice Press, Hu Kitchen and many more. Chinatown, Indian Row, Ethiopian and pretty much anything else you can dream of is super close.
It's also very central to awesome bars ranging from classic old-school NY spots like McSorley's to specialty cocktail bars with amazing drinks like Booker and Dax. Tons of gay bars are within blocks including The Cock, Eastern Bloc, Nowhere Bar and Boiler Room; there are also great dives and local watering holes like KGB, Lit, Tom and Jerry's and Von; and there are upscale bars at the Bowery Hotel or The Standard Hotel; and sports bars like Phebe's on the corner of the block.
Great coffee is also super close including The Smile, Bowery Coffee, Gasoline Alley and Abraco to name a few. Also, I keep fresh Blue Bottle or Stumptown Coffee on hand at the apartment for guests who want to make their own.
Pretty much any level and type of shopping experience you are looking for is nearby, plus there are amazing small, local-owned places. Just a tiny example include Converse, Levi's, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Helmut Lang, Agnes B, Oden, Opening Ceremony, Jack Spade, Freeman's, H&M, Uniqlo, Top Shop, Kid Robot, Rogan, Dave's Quality Meat, Flight Club, St. Marks Books, Taschen Books, Dashwood Books, Other Music, John Derian, DWR the list goes on and on and ON!
MUSEUMS & TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Being in the middle of Manhattan, the apartment is about halfway between midtown attractions like Empire State Building, Times Square and MoMA; and lower Manhattan attractions like Wall Street and Ground Zero. The Metropolitan Museum, Guggenheim, Harlem etc, are all within a quick subway or cab ride away. The New Museum, Tenement Museum and the Merchant House are just blocks away.
My street is basically what they call "off, off Broadway" and lined with great small theaters including the legendary La Mama. Some fun comedy clubs are on the block and the long running Stomp and Blue Man Group shows are just a few blocks as well. Amazing indie cinemas are also very close including Anthology Film Archives, Angelika, Sunshine, IFC, Film Forum and more! Legendary comic spots like Comedy Cellar are just a few blocks away.
THIS IS A WALK UP
To add to your true NY experience, like most buildings around here, THIS IS A WALK-UP and is on the 5th floor. The benefits of being on the top floor are not only a firm derriere, but that it's extra quiet and great light. :)
Speaking of health and fitness, there are about 6+ gyms nearby, including Crunch, New York Sports Club, New York Health and Racquet Club, Dolphin, Blink and David Barton all within under a 5 minute walk from the apt.
There are also great markets nearby including the 4th Street Food Co-op health food store 20 feet from my building, a massive Whole Foods Market 4 blocks away and countless corner bodegas including my favorite East Village Farm, which delivers 24 Hours a day.
There is a laundromat on the block that picks up and delivers, and virtually everything you need is a phone call or a short walk away.
Depending on time of day, taxi from JFK is anywhere from 30 min - 1.5 hours. From Newark its around 45 min to 1.5 hours and from LaGuardia, it can be as quick as 20 min to 45 min. Trains and subways are least expensive travel options from the airports and happy to provide info regarding whichever route you choose to take.
Airbnb shows the lowest price available during the year. However, the price is often higher in late Spring, Summer and Fall due to super high demand. I don't charge random deposits, cleaning fees etc. I do charge for an additional guest.
Gay friendly. No smoking.
No smoking in the building, feel free to smoke on the roof or outside. No additional guests without prior agreement. No pets since the apt is small and I have some allergies. Please feel free to come and go as you wish and enjoy yourself in NYC. There is soap and fresh towels you are welcome to use. There is a laundromat on the block. If you want coffee in the AM, I am happy to provide it for you, just let me know.
