An 1860 Terrace, Chunky House has been sympathetically renovated to retain it's period charm. Fitted with modern bathrooms, a country style kitchen, separate living and dining rooms, this is a property that will meet the expectations of people looking for an upmarket experience of Melbourne in a friendly 'at home' environment.
There are two bedrooms available on the second story. One large room with Queen Bed and heaps of wardrobe space and a smaller room fitted with two singles and cupboard storage. They are available separately or together for a visiting family. There are two bathrooms available, one private and one to share depending on who is staying here at the time.
I have a small studio at the rear of my courtyard and can stay out there should you want pretty free rein of my house. In that instance a full second bathroom is available for your use rather than sharing with me. Please enquire about this option prior to making a booking. My dog does sleep in the dining room and there are a couple of house rules for that elderly gentleman.
The kitchen is fully available to share with me, however with so many great cafes around you'll probably decide to go out for most meals. If you would like to entertain friends, please ask me about this prior to booking. I will have a stock of the basics for brecky. Tea, coffee and some cereal if required.
One car parking permit is also available ($50 refundable deposit applies). As my rooms are also listed separately on airbnb , the precious parking permit goes to 'first in best dressed'. Please enquire as to availability on booking.
Fitzroy is Melbourne’s equivalent of Soho in London and New York, the Left Bank in Paris or Greenwich Village. Here you will find a profusion of restaurants of every nationality, wine bars, clubs and venues famous for music from all over the world. I can point you to my favorites, and to others as well.
Public transport via tram is about a minutes walk out the front door and it's pretty easy to get anywhere you'd like without making too many route changes. I'll have some tram route maps available for you and can advise best ways to get where you want to go. Walking to the city and the iconic MCG is easy and picturesque.
Children are welcome at Chunky House provided they aren't encouraged to slide down the banister.

My family and I had the most wonderful stay in Keren's home over Christmas 2013. The location was perfect for us, so much to see and do within easy walking distance - we liked exploring Gertrude St, Brunswick St, Fitzroy and Carlton Gardens, and the Melbourne Museum.
Keren generously provided us with a portacot for our baby which fit easily into the very roomy main bedroom. The rooms/beds are all very comfortable and beautifully decorated. I loved the rear courtyard. We were able to use the laundry which was a great help travelling with a 9-month-old!
Keren made us feel very welcome and I highly recommend this host.
It wasn't a problem for us but be aware that the two bathrooms (with toilets) are upstairs.
Fitzroy is a wonderful and lively neighbourhood to be in and to discover Melbourne from. The house is comfortable and unique, and Keren very welcoming and generous. I stayed here about 15 days, half business, half vacation and it was a good place for both purposes. Recommended!
Keren's house is superbly located, between Smith and Brunswick and close to Gertrude - three of the most eclectic streets in Melbourne with great shops and restaurants. Her house is very comfortable, well equipped with creature comforts and beautifully furnished. Everything is as stated on the website. The street is very quiet and the beds are extremely comfortable!
We stayed as a family (two grandparents, two parents and one little baby). Keren was very sympatico with the baby's needs and even provided a porta a cot which was much appreciated. we would have no hesitation in staying again at Keren's.
Keren was a delight to deal with, everything was prepared on our arrival, and the house is stunning, close to everything and Warm in every sense of the word. We had the house to ourselves pretty much. i have no problem in recommending Karen's place as an Ideal places to stay in Fitzroy!
Keren's arty fun house is so close to all you need. Cafes, shops, and the great buzz of Fitzroy. Her house is very comfortable in every way. Would certainly stay again. Thank you.
our family of 4 adults and 2 kids really enjoyed our stay at Keren's. her home is warm and inviting, and the best thing is the location. just a nearby walk to shops, cafes, restaurants etc, altho we drove mostly as we had 2 young children and the weather was drizzly some days. would definitely come back to stay here. the only drawback is all 6 of us having to share 1 bathroom, but Keren kindly allowed us the use of her own bathroom after a couple of days of our stay. great that we could have use of her kitchen and washing machine as we travelled light with the kids. wifi throughout was also very helpful. thank you so much Keren, especially for humouring my son's endless questions and observations. he has very fond memories of his stay there and still speaks of you and your dog, Levi.
We (two older couples) had a very pleasant three nights at Keren's well located and comfortably appointed inner-city house. She recommended an excellent restaurant a short walk away in cosmopolitan Smith St and was in general very relaxed and welcoming whenever our busy separate schedules intersected. Use of her parking permit was invaluable. We would be happy to recommend Keren's house as an option for anyone looking to stay in old inner Melbourne.
thanks for a great week! beautiful terrace house, felt right at home & it was the perfect location to explore melbourne. house was very comfortable and clean, great art too :)
Stayed with Keren for a few days after moving out of my own home and going overseas. She is wonderful and intelligent lady with a beautiful home in a great part of Fitzroy. Would recommend her to anyone looking for good insider knowledge to the city and accurate reviews (in my opinion anyway).
Keren's beautiful home was perfect for our week long stay in Fitzroy. Keren is a generous and fascinating host and her art collection and library are willingly shared, as is her local knowledge regarding the delights of this area. We have no hesitation in recommending this treasure of an airbnb.
