Beautiful 2 BR suite in upscale Spanish Hacienda. Large master bedroom has queen bed & futon & 2nd BR has queen bed. Holds 5. Also, Suite is great for GROUPS! Holds up to 10 people when booked w/adjoining "Heart of the Hacienda" bedroom.

The Space

TWO BEDROOMS: 1st room is a nice-sized bedroom with queen bed, private entry, and log poles on the ceiling. The adjoining beautiful, spacious, and quiet master bedroom suite with a bath that is shared with first bedroom, has a queen bed plus a double futon. There is an adjoining nook with table & 4 chairs, small refrigerator, microwave & coffee pot. Includes comfy recliner for reading and relaxing, large windows, French door to the courtyard and fountain. Bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. Adjoining smaller (second) bedroom also has a new queen bed. There is also an outdoor, covered sitting porch at the entrance to the suite--great place to have your morning coffee. If you are easygoing and friendly, you are very welcome to come into the main part of the house and have some coffee or tea, or use the kitchen to cook during the hours of 8 am - 7 pm. There is also a large dining room table (same hours as kitchen) or a cozy breakfast nook. If you don't need to cook your meals, then the Suite alone will be perfect for you and is very private. I can recommend great restaurants in the area.

Centrally located, this house is in a beautiful, mostly natural country setting on 5 acres, approx 30 miles from the Yosemite gate on Hwy 41 (north), and 5 miles to Chukchansi Casino and Resort (great place to eat!).

We are looking for easygoing, friendly and quiet people . If you have young children then you may want to book the Casita, which is not as noise-sensitive as the main house.

We are warm and friendly hosts and I am happy to give you a brief but detailed orientation of Yosemite on the map, as well as where the markets, restaurants, etc., are, if you can arrive here before 8 pm. If you arrive after 8 pm then we can go over the maps the next morning (any time after 9 am).
Please be certain to email me your expected arrival time 1 day ahead of your trip. If you are coming in after 8 pm I will email you instructions on how to let yourselves in. Please do not ask me to send this info in advance of your trip.

The main part of this home (kitchen, living room, and dining room) are considered common area and you are welcome to hang out and get to know an atypical local :-} if you are interested in great/fun conversations.

Please note this is a do-it-yourself, working household, and we are inviting you into our home. It is not a hotel with full-time staff by any means. This is a comfortable, casual, nice 9-year-old home with an old-world charm atmosphere that makes a great base for travelers. Michael and I are very down-to-earth hosts, and we will be here to help make your stay enjoyable.

You may see a lot of wildlife on the property - from deer to squirrels, rabbits, and a large variety of birds -- especially hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and quail! You are also welcome to bring carrots to feed the blue-eyed Appaloosa horses next door.

Complimentary shampoo & conditioner, liquid body wash, & hair dryer are provided, as well as linens and towels, and some free in-room snacks and assorted coffees and teas. This is a great place to chill out, recharge and/or unwind, have a glass of wine or a beer, listen to the fountain, wind chimes and birds, and sleep well. (If you are trying to compare the two vacation rooms that are inside our main house, this one is by far the biggest and best, and well worth the difference in price!) There is also no extra charge for the wifi :-)

We also have other listings you should review before making your decision:
* Romantic and Private Casita with large deck
* Romantic Treetop Studio - 30 miles to Yosemite Gate

Smoking is allowed in designated outdoor areas only, thanks. Please request an ashtray. Sorry, pets are not allowed due to previous bad experiences.

Traveling Tip: If you are trying to choose between Yosemite Park or Sequoia & Kings Canyon Natl Park, I think you will prefer Yosemite, and it has the huge sequoias, too, so it's best to give yourself another day at Yosemite to see everything it has to offer, which is a lot! Yosemite is a big place with a lot to see! It is best to book for at least 3 nights to give yourself plenty of time to see the Park.

Please note that the closer vacation rentals are to Yosemite, the higher the price they charge. Our rates are very reasonable for the nice rooms you get, and we are not that much farther away from the Gate.

NOTE: You do not have to contact us first if you would like to stay here. Just check our Airbnb calendar and if it's available, simply Instant Book it!

Thank you, Michael and I look forward to seeing you soon! :-)

Interaction with Guests

We love to meet and interact with our guests, and are always available to answer questions about this beautiful area. We are also interested in hearing about the various places and countries our guests are from. However, we definitely respect other people's privacy so no one should feel obligated to socialize if they are not up to it.

The Neighborhood

The foothills are very scenic and also fairly quiet and safe. About 2 miles away is the Coarsegold Historical Museum, which highlights the 1800's gold rush days, and another mile beyond it is a large casino with 5 restaurants. The nearest grocery is a small market in the village of Coarsegold, about 7 miles away, and a larger supermarket is about 14 miles away in the next town of Oakhurst on your way to Yosemite.

Getting around

Sorry, there is no public transportation to Yosemite. You will need to rent a car to get around here.

Other Things to Note

This is an eco-friendly house. All wooden doors are hand - made from reclaimed wood bought locally. The living room log poles were salvaged from a fire. This Spanish Colonial Ranch - style home on 5 acres is made of concrete and Styrofoam block, and is plumbed for a gray water system to water the courtyard plants. The kitchen counters are made of sustainably - grown bamboo parquet. Floors are Mexican clay pavers. For other eco features, just ask Ginger, who custom designed this home for her and her father.

  • This Spanish Hacienda style mansion was great for our stay. Ginger was a friendly and accommodating host. We rented the 2 BR with 4 guests. To describe it a little more, it is essentially 2 rooms. You enter through the left side on the picture immediately into one of the bedrooms, which is a full. Proceeding into the room is a large room with a table for 4, the futon, and another full/queen sized bed. A pot for coffee/tea, mini fridge, and microwave is provided. Across a small courtyard is the kitchen and Ginger's side of the property. While the listing says it sleeps 6, realistically it is good for 2 couples that don't mind getting a little cozy. The bathroom is great as it has a shower and hot tub!

We had no trouble finding the place in the dark using a popular maps app on our phones. The slight confusing portion in arriving is one should go left and then down a secondary dirt path being careful to avoid the cars on the left from other guests and the rocks on the right that are nearly invisible due to darkness and the incline (I scratched my rental car badly!)

We had a great time at Yosemite, seeing the main sights which Ginger was happy to point out the must-sees. It's about a 30-40 min drive, and we got breakfast on the way up in Oakhurst. For dinner, the casino, tacky as it may be, has a solid buffet (~$24 and 10% off if you sign up for the free players card we found out later) that we believed compared favorably with some others on the East Coast, and was minutes from the location. To finish off the trip, we fed Ginger's horses carrots which was a fun group activity.

  • We loved staying with Ginger and Mike. The place is huge, clean and in a lovely location. The hosts were so friendly and Ginger even spent time late in the evening with me recommending where to go in Yosemite in the short time we had. We would stay again in a heartbeat and would make sure it was for more than 3 nights!! One word of advice: follow Gingers directions and really try and get there before dark. It is VERY hard to find in the dark.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Ginger's. The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. Microwave in the room was very useful. Loved her dog Molly and the cats. Ginger spent time with us telling us about different attractions in Yosemite, which came in handy. It's closer to the south gate so you can see the mariposa grove, which people tend to leave out usually if they are coming from other gates.
Thanks Ginger & Michael, for your hospitality. We enjoyed our trip thoroughly.

  • Unfortunately, this place was a disappointment due to uncleanliness. Cat food on the kitchen counter not less than 3 feet from the sink, dirty floors, dirty towels, etc. The garbage was not removed for 3 days until we required where it could be deposited.

  • Our stay at Ginger's house was really good. Both beds were really comfortable and the room were spacious. She was very helpful by giving a lot of good viewpoints that are not obvious by looking at the map. The downside was that the kitchenette was not set up for four people. You can use her kitchen if you want.

  • My friend and I enjoyed our stay so much at Ginger's place. We had the two room suite with its own entrance so we could come and go without bothering anyone. Our 4 nights were well spent as that gave us a plenty of time to do several hikes in Yosemite. It's quite a drive, but the scenery is beautiful on the way. The grounds are full of wildlife - woodpeckers, quail, hummingbirds, ground squirrels and deer- very quiet and peaceful. Ginger gave us access to the house and kitchen too, so we saved a lot by making our own food. And when we didn't feel like cooking, we found a brew pub with great beer not too far away. Thanks so much for everything Ginger- the company, the directions and conversation!

  • We couldn’t have wished for somewhere more lovely to stay. Ginger and Michael’s house is beautiful - the room we had was huge, had more facilities than we expected (fridge, table, toaster, coffee making facilities) and the bed was really comfortable. In addition to all of this, Ginger was the perfect host and couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome, including giving us great advice about where to go in Yosemite. Yes it’s quite a drive into the park but the room and hospitality more than made up for the drive. We didn’t want to leave and were sad to say goodbye, including saying goodbye to Tyrone and Molly!

  • Ginger and Michael were very pleasant and helpful. Their home was absolutely beautiful and they were more than accommodating during our stay. Ginger walked us through different hikes and viewpoints in Yosemite and gave us dinner recommendations in town. I highly recommend their suite!

  • We loved staying at Ginger's! She accommodated my whole family and made my grandparents feel at home. If you are ever in the Yosemite area, this is the place to stay hands down. The house is beautiful, the bedrooms comfortable and the surroundings stunning. Ginger has such a wonderful soul that you never want to leave. She took us to feed the horses in the morning and treated us to the best cup of coffee. We miss being there and can't wait to return!

Hosts to wonderful airbnb guests
About
i am a native Californian and retired grandmother formerly from Santa Barbara, San Diego, and the Bay Area, I have been living in the beautiful Sierra foothills for over 13 years now. Having been self-employed most of my life in various businesses, including publishing, graphic arts, and real estate, my true love is music and I have had my own rock 'n roll bands (many years ago, sigh). I now enjoy hosting all the wonderful and interesting travelers/adventurers who book their stays with me. It is my dream to go to Europe for 2-3 weeks later in 2014, and stay in Airbnb places and revisit some of the really cool guests who have stayed with me :-} News on my end is my former husband Michael and I have reunited after 42 years, and he now enjoys the hosting experience with me, as well as helping tremendously with the workload a 5 acre property entails. What a blessing he is! I guess the moral of this story is it's never too late for love :-] Our home is convenient to Hwy. 41, and just 5 miles from a large casino that has great all-you-can-eat buffets and some specialty restaurants, yet it is peaceful and quiet here. This location is approx. 30 miles from the Yosemite Nat'l. Park gate, 30 miles to Fresno, and 25 miles to Bass Lake. We are friendly, young at heart, quiet, love animals and most non-overly opinionated people, and enjoy growing plants and trees. I really enjoy meeting, chatting, and hosting new people of all ages and countries. In my spare time I love to read - mostly magazines like the Smithsonian, Discover, Wired, and various art magazines. Once read, these magazines are put in the rooms for visitors. And last, I love watching the amazing advances of technology, robotics, artificial or accelerated intelligence, and even at my age, I still love rock 'n roll, Santana, Elton, Whitney Houston, Bonny Raitt, Rolling Stones, Journey, Foreigner, etc, altho I don't play it loudly, don't worry :-) Michael was also a musician and in the music industry in one form or the other for most of his adult life. We love meeting new people from all walks of life and sharing our home with friendly guests. We sincerely look forward to meeting you!
