Rua Totara meaning 'A pair of Totara trees'. This is the theme which runs throughout the property and into the interiors where you will find many 'pairs'. The space is basic and simply; a perfect getaway from the business of day to day life.
If you need inspiration or some much needed timeout, then this is the place for you. Just 1hr 40mins drive from Auckland or 30 minutes from Hamilton city... Rua Totara is nestled amongst native trees on a hillside overlooking the beautiful Raglan Harbour.
She's been lovingly put together by designer, Kathryn Taylor.Each item in the bach has been specially found, recycled and spruced up to create a true-to-life 1950s getaway. Rua Totara is made up of a series of small separate rooms
which you walk between, under a covered veranda. This is one of the many little quirks which make your stay super unique and enjoyable.
Rua Totara has no mod-cons. This allows you to unwind immediately from city-life; relax on the deck, read a book, write some music or bake some cheese scones in the best oven you have ever .
This property is ideal for an artists retreat, couples, small families or a maximum gathering of 4-5 friends. There is an incredible garden spanning down from the property which has magical spots to relax, explore, read or play.
Parental guidance is encouraged for the deck and garden.
She has plenty of sun in both summer and winter, where you can live with all the doors open or use one of the many woollen rugs available for outdoor sitting.
Rua Totara is the perfect place for artists to escape and she has become a favourite for many NZ musicians and writers to bunk down and enjoy the peace. This property is excellent for reconnecting with yourself, your family or just snuggling up to have those well-needed conversations with life, that we often don't make time for.
Beautiful views of the Harbour and mature native bush valley views. All day sun in summer and winter. Three main intimate rooms connected by a veranda. Short walk to Raglan's village and Raglan Wharf.
There is no wifi at Rua Totara but there is free wifi at the local library in the village and Raglan's many cafes. Rua Totara is not suitable for wheelchair access.
Raglan is a most intoxicating mix of people, landscape and culture. The local community is vibrant and creative. Things not to miss: Surfing! Wind-surfing. Paddle boarding. Kite-surfing. Horse-riding on the wild beach at Ruapuke. Sunday creative markets. Fresh 'fish and chips' on the historic Raglan Wharf. Kayaking the harbour. Coffees from Raglan Roastery. Brunch at The Shack Cafe. The yummiest authentic pizza from Raglan West Kitchen. Rocket Kitchen on route to the swimming beach. Bridal Veil Falls is an awesome little walk 10 minutes out of town.
Getting to Raglan: There are regular buses from Hamilton Central which only take 35 minutes if you do not have a car. Getting around Raglan: You can hire bikes from Dirk at the Raglan Cyclery. He'll do you a great daily/weekly deal and it's a wonderful way to experience the area.

if you are unsure of the local area. It's a 1 minute drive from central town or a 10 minute scenic walk. Buses from Hamilton also stop on the Government Road/Lily Street corner - it's very easy.

Hello! We are mother and daughter (Karen and Rachel) whom warmly invite you to stay at our humble abode. We are both nurses in Auckland - Rachel is currently doing further studies to become a Midwife. We have a love for the outdoors, cycling, yoga, gardening and spending time in Raglan.
