Charming, bright room, view of garden. Own bath, queen sized bed with luxury sheets, desk, vanity, free fast WIFI, excellent reading lamps in quiet home. Gourmet coffee or tea. Near Cornell and Lab of Ornithology. Small suburban homestead with cat, dog, chickens. We live here!
We are offering for occasional rentals a bright and sunny bedroom with a queen sized bed in our home with its own bathroom across the hall. We live in our home and you will be our guests. The bed, a queen, is comfy and you can have all the pillows you want! We love hosting guests from around the world and sharing the beauty of our home and the wonders of our fair city and the Finger Lakes region. You will have your own room and a bath for your sole use right across the hall. The space is suitable for a single person or a couple. We have a cat and a dog, so people with pet allergies should not book here. We also do not allow people to bring their own pets (so please don't ask). There are no provisions for you to use the kitchen to prepare meals, but we are happy to recommend great truly local restaurants for lunch and dinner. This is a strictly non-smoking home inside and out. Free WIFI and ample off street parking. We also have a meditation center (Zen inspired but completely non-denominational) next door a short walk across the bridge and guests are invited to come to the center for meditation if they like or to look at books in our library on sustainability and ecology. To book this room, you must have a fully verified ID (with all verifications complete), a full facial profile (no sunglasses or distant shots), picture and a bio with your profile that tells us about you. Airbnb is built on trust and this is how we keep this system safe. Given that this room is in our home, we need to know who you are. You will be seeing us as we go about our days. You stay is helping defray the costs of our children going to college. We do not discriminate against anyone seeking to stay based on race, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. We do ask that you like animals.
Guests can let themselves in and are free to help themselves to breakfast food in the kitchen. I put out things for a simple, healthy breakfast. Please note that guests can not cook lunch or dinner in our kitchen. I also supply a basket of local tourist information and can help you plan a nice visit to our region. I have lived here for 28 years and know the area well. We are near the airport and with notice, I am happy to come and pick you up from the ITHACA airport or north campus CAMPUS TO CAMPUS bus. We orient you and then let you get on with your stay.
Interaction with guests
I am here to orient you and make you feel welcome and then I invite you to relax and make yourself at home. We both work during the day, so we get up early. We ask that you respect our quiet hours from 10 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. Our pets will enjoy seeing you too, so you need to like dogs and cats and the normal hustle and bustle of a normal household. Please don't book if you have any pet allergies at all, or if anyone in your party is ambivalent about the Airbnb experience. You will be in our home as our guests. This is not a hotel or a fancy Victorian Bed and Breakfast. This is a home and we will show you our hospitality as our guest.
Other things to note
We also have a listing of the lower level of our home which is a separate listing and provides more space and a stand alone kitchenette that is open seasonally. Please do not inquire about bringing your own pets, as this is not possible. (We get asked this a lot and sadly can not accommodate other animals.)
Please do not smoke or become inebriated while a guest here. Only paying guests are allowed to come to the room and home, unless cleared with us in advance. We will show you where to park. This is a vegetarian home and so kindly ask you to respect that with any carry in foods. Vegetarian foods (and lots of fruit, yogurt, fresh eggs from our hens and great coffee and tea and cream) will be available for your breakfast. You must be OK with cats and a dog living in the house. We kindly ask only those guests who understand that Airbnb is rooms in a host's home, and are prepared to behave like honored guests to book. You will see us in our home. There is no provision for you to do your own cooking in our kitchen while you stay here. Please do not ask us to cook your lunch or evening meals here. This is our private kitchen. If you are arriving internationally and late at night, we are happy to provide a meal for you at no cost.
9. Before you book, please be sure that your Airbnb profile shows a clear, front, full facial photograph of the person staying (and making the reservation) and that you have written a short bio about yourself. Airbnb is based on trust, and we are welcoming strangers into our home as honored guests.
I have been hosting on AirBnB since August of 2013 and JUST LOVE IT! I am an academic of 27 years at Cornell, an avid gardener and competitive dressage rider. I am also active in our local Airbnb group, working to make this innovative approach to lodging legal, fair and safe for all sides. My husband is a local physician. We have three grown children who come back to the roost from time to time. My family and I enjoy meeting people and sharing our home. We have met really great people doing AirBnB, both as hosts and guests. I have been the recipient of many wonderful and hospitable energies, and have tried to use my role as an Airbnb host to pay some of this back to the cosmos!! Our whole family is active in the anti-fracking fight to save the beauty of NY. I speak English and Japanese and we love having guests from overseas. We are passionate about environmental issues, sustainability, and social justice. My husband and I most enjoy drinking coffee quietly in the morning, chatting with our three (nearly grown) children, reading and going to movies and taking walks with our dog. We are about to embark on a more intense homestead, with the addition of baby goats and chickens in our large property in 2015. Books are all over our house and this is a great place to come and read. We don't have a TV. We are happy to suggest ways that people can make a visit or family stay in the Finger Lakes unique and meaningful and I love helping people plan a fun itinerary based on their interests. This is what Airbnb is all about. We know all the theaters, restaurants, wineries, markets and unique places to go, and love seeing people discover the very local beauty of our special region. I am really enjoying taking care of travelers and find that this is a great transition into the empty nest for me -- taking care of people! My life motto is "I am too old to NOT have fun." This is great fun!
