The Space

Tokyo Funky Flat:

45 square meter 2 bedroom apartment in one of Tokyo most sought after neighborhoods.

2 rooms, fully furnished with wardrobe and desks.

Rooms are south facing and have floor to ceiling windows on to balcony with lots of sunlight.

Charming kitchen with table. Separate toilet, shower and bath with a washing machine.

*WIFI*
High speed fiber optic wireless internet inclusive. For those who want additional portable wifi connectivity options with smart phones or tablets, we recommend setting up an account with "wi2"(just do a web search for "wi2" and click on the english site for pricing, speed/plans and payment info). This is a city wide pay service wifi system that is generally much faster than portable wifi devices at a fraction the price of renting one. You can connect pretty much anywhere in Tokyo and many locations nation wide. Very convenient!

Very quiet street situated between 2 parks in an excellent location.

Trendy neighborhood with funky cafes/restaurants/boutiques/grocery.

10 min walk from Daikanyama station(Toyoko line) or Nakameguro station(Toyoko line/Metro Hibiya line)

15 min walk from Shinsen station(Inokashira line)

15 min walk to Shibuya

1 min walk from Meguro river (famous for the spring cherry blossom viewing!)

VERY easy access to Shibuya, Roppongi and other areas of the heart of downtown Tokyo.

Ideal for 2 people, 2 couples or an small and intimate family!

**Please note, this is an old, no frills building preserved in its eclectic style. Although this flat is very charming for many, people who are looking for something newly built with high tech amenities- this may not be for you.**

Please also note that that the shower/bath set-up in this flat is an older very traditional Japanese "ofuro" system which focuses on the "bath" as being the most important thing. (please do a web search on "Japanese ofuro" to see what I am talking about). In a few of the reviews, people reflect that it does not work well, but it works absolutely fine. You will however need to leave the ideas of a "modern western" bathing system aside and carefully follow the shower and bath operation instructions provided in the apartment manual at first to understand how it works. It takes about 1 minute to get it, yet if you do not read the instructions and try and figure it out on your own, it will not fit with the western intuition at all. To be honest, despite the water pressure being a bit low for such an old building it works TOTALLY fine.

**Although very central, the neighborhood is super quiet and best suits chilled out people who respect this vibe. As this is not a hotel, we prefer to rent to people who treat the place very well and respect it as if it was their own home.

  • We enjoyed our stay in this place very much! This is great place to stay in a wonderful neighbourhood, we loved very much. The area was exactly desirable and met our expectations! So cool! The flat was very easy to find and very cosy, and quiet to live in. John is a perfect host, who managed to provide a lot of helpful and important info. We felt ourselves being very important guests)

  • This is great place to stay in a wonderful neighbourhood. Really easy to get around town as well as having a great vibe all of its own. Jon was a very considerate host, we got plenty of info about both the flat and the area before we arrived and checking in and out could not, literally, have been easier.

  • This flat is in a great location! There are many restaurants nearby. There are two super markets and all the supplies needed in the kitchen for those times you want to relax in.The flat was quiet, spacious, and comfortable. The shower's water pressure and temperature were hard to (email hidden)r an adult it is really no problem, but with a 2 year old it was a little tricky.John supplied wealth of recommendations within the area.I recommend this place to stay to get some relax time in the giant, stimulus filled city that is Tokyo.

  • The cozy flat was a great choice for our party of 4. Its proximity Shibuya and food was excellent. John's detailed guide to the flat and it's surrounding areas was really helpful.

  • The flat was at a very convenient area near Meguro and Shibuya on a quiet street. The location was fantastic we just need to walk outside and there are good food and bar that were much cheaper than Shinjuku or Harajuku. Check in and check out was a breeze for 4 of us. Note that you won't find a luxury hotel room here but a real Japanese style living. Just read the instruction carefully and you should get it. Would suggest to friends who want to explore the cool Meguro and Shibuya area.

  • John was a fantastic host, you can tell he loves the area. His flat was as described. His place has very simple accommodations in a beautiful neighborhood. Perfect for us, as we were never there but to sleep and shower. Beds had soft sheets and were very comfortable. The shower was fine, we did not have trouble with the water temperature at all. Don't miss Tsutaya Bookstore just up the hill in Daikanyama. Open until 2am. You could spend a month here if you love design. John gave a great list of recommendations for the area and was super helpful in his communications. We spent each day in a different area of Tokyo, however I would love to go back and just spend 1-2 weeks alone in the area of the flat. Thanks so much John!

  • Amazing location, had a blast.

John was great to deal with as well.

  • Great area, with lots of restaurants nearby. Try Da Isa on the main road for great pizza and the French bakery John recommends is great for breakfast. 10 mins easy walk from train station and 5 mins taxi (or a 20ish min walk) from Shibuya. Flat is quite spacious and lovely and bright. Shower instructions were easy to follow but temperature fluctuates a bit. It's definitely not a great shower so if you are fussy about those things it might really annoy you but we managed fine. Stove was hard to get to stay alight. We needed to jiggle the burners around a bit and then got 1 side working well. We didn't contact John about it because we only used the stove to boil the kettle. Beds comfortable but a couple more pillows would have been nice.

    Response from John:

Again, for those reading here, any level of contact regarding anything at our flat can be addressed and sorted almost immediately. We want people to be as comfortable and informed as possible staying in our flat. With this said, Fraine was not as considerate as a guest as we would have liked, leaving the place in a mess upon check out. It was clear that she did not at all consider that we actually live there.
