We have a beautiful light filled 2 bedroom apartment on a quiet cul-de-sac in Somerville. The apartment is the top two floors of a character house. It is within a 20 min. walk to Harvard, MIT or Tufts. Easy access to bus transportation and all major squares/downtown Boston.
There is a lovely light-filled kitchen/dining area and beautiful plant-laden deck with a view of the city. There is one large shared bathroom, which is downstairs from the bedrooms (must be ok climbing stairs). The whole apartment has been lovingly painted and decorated. Your bedroom overlooks Union Square and has its own private deck with a view of downtown Boston.
We are located one block behind Union Square and within steps of many great bars, stores and restaurants including The Independent, Journeyman, Back Bar, Reliable Market, Market Basket, Block 11 Cafe, Sherman Market (locally sourced groceries) and the Saturday Union Sq. Farmers Market.
Your room is large with vaulted ceilings, a skylight and lots of light. It is furnished with a double bed, easy chair, bedside tables, dresser, lamps, quality bedding, feather pillows, towels and closet access. There is also a small desk and work area and a printer in the room that is available for use. A visitor's guide and transportation printout is provided in the room.
Your stay includes:
-2 day guest parking pass (for stays longer than 2 days guests must get their own temporary parking pass from the Somerville parking office)
-All bedding washed with hypoallergenic biodegradable laundry soap
-A green clean - all cleaning products are biodegradable and we use recycled toilet paper and paper towels
-A selection of organic teas & french press coffee
-limited kitchen access for making breakfast, tea, coffee and snacks
We have two sweet cats named Shiro and Polly. They love to snuggle and play and we vacuum the wood floors regularly so there is minimal cat hair.
We are a Canadian couple in our early thirties, currently expecting our first child, who keep an immaculately clean apartment and love meeting new people. Ariel is an artist and Steve is an engineering manager at a technology company. We are both very friendly and well traveled. ESL and International students welcome.
Bathroom, living room, guest bedroom
We enjoy getting to know our guests, giving information on our favorite locals haunts and sharing tea and chats especially on the weekends!
Somerville in the "Williamsburg" of Boston. With a cross section of diverse ethnicities and a little outside of the downtown core it has been attracting more and more young families and creative types to the neighborhood. There are great cafes, yoga studios, community garden projects, 2 letterpress studios, many great restaurants and even a number of live music venues all within walking distance. Feel free to ask us for recommendations!
The best ways to get in and out of Union are by taxi or bus. There are buses that connect quickly to all major subway lines. We have provided a transportation map in the room and if you have a smart phone recommend using (website hidden) maps to navigate as Boston can be a bit of a maze.

Lovely place, lovely hosts - wish I could have stayed longer.
The reservation was canceled 74 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Ariel and Steve are very generous and considerate hosts. Their house is lovely and they will make you feel welcome and your stay will be very comfortable. The room is large with an outside terrace and it's a very quiet house. I would definitely stay with again when visiting Boston.
We had a fantastic time staying with Ariel and Steve. The place is charming and beautifully decorated, and Ariel and Steve were hospitable while giving us plenty of space. The bedroom was comfortable, spacious, and bright, but the real treat of the stay was playing with their adorable cats Shiro and Polly. The bedroom walls are pretty thin, so you will need to keep your voices down at night so as not to disturb the other bedroom. The entire process--from reservation to check-out--went smoothly, with plenty of communication with Ariel. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend the place to others!
Beautiful apartment with two charming hosts! We weren't in the house very often, really just to sleep, but when we were around they were great to chat with, very friendly. Discovered a Vancouver Island, BC link, so that was cool. Would definitely stay there again. Really close to great cafes and restaurants (check out Posto, great Italian not in the North End :) ) Beautiful views with your own private deck.
My sister and I loved staying at Ariel and Steve's place. It's in a good location, not far from the shops and cafes on Cambridge St and from Havard. It was a pleasant 20 min walk through charming Bostonian houses to the subway stop. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Ariel and Steve are very friendly people. We loved cats Polly and Shiro, always surprising us with their cuteness. We would definitely stay again.
This was our first experience with Air B&B and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Ariel and Steve. They have a lovely, light-filled apartment, which is just as described in their listing. When we travel we tend to use our lodging primarily as a place to sleep so we did not have too much interaction with Ariel and Steve. But in the conversations we did have they are gracious, friendly and accommodating hosts. As many have already written, the cats are wonderful and also very friendly. The apartment is convenient to several bus routes but a relatively long walk from subway stations, so if you're planning to stay here it would be helpful to be familiar with bus routes and schedules before arriving in town or simply plan to take a taxi. Steve and Ariel offered a great first experience with Air B&B, which has us contemplating listing our place when we are in a position to do so.
It was a fantastic stay! While Ariel & Steve were away, our hosts Spiro & Polly, were extremely accommodating. When we weren't walking down to Cambridge, watching the Florida State/Boston College game and shopping on Newbury Street; we enjoyed down time relaxing on the balcony with the cats, exploring Somerville and checking out the awesome farmer's market. It was the perfect centralized location for the best the area has to offer. When we got home to Fort Lauderdale, my daughter asked me when we could go back! Thanks again the your hospitality!
Ariel and Steve are such wonderful hosts and their home is an absolute delight. It is a great way to experience suburban Boston while being really close to an array of public transport options to the city and Harvard campus. The area is also very walkable to these areas (20-30 mins). The location is great for travelers as Union Square has small convenience stores, pubs, takeouts and laundry services. The bed is super comfy, the bedroom and house peaceful and quiet (I'm a fussy light sleeper) and overall an absolute charm. This was my second airbnb experience and I am 100% converted to travelling this way in the future after such lovely stays!
Ariel & Steve were great hosts and had a very lovely home. It was just as pictured, very clean, plus we had the bonus of staying with Shiro and Polly. They were the sweetest cats and slept with us every night! The room had a private balcony, which was great to relax on after a long day of sightseeing. Also, the neighborhood was great and a 20-30 min walk from the Kendall/MIT station. Great location and excellent hosts!
