Why stay with a host instead of a hotel?.....
Because you have a WHOLE HOUSE to share, a fully equipped bathroom, laundry, kitchen, living areas, cable TV, WiFi AND friendly advice and sightseeing ideas from a local resident. Can't beat that :-) !!
Modern town house, your own room and bathroom, close to many restaurants, bars, cafes and tourist attractions. It doesn't get much better than this in our lovely and elegant city!! You definitely won't need a car if you stay here.
If you are a single traveller or a couple, this will be the perfect place to experience a short stay in Melbourne. There are many things for tourists to do when they are staying in this area.
You will be located 300 metres from the famous St Kilda beach, 400 meters from Albert Park ( Grand Prix circuit), 4km from the centre of the city, (15 minutes by tram)
Your BEDROOM: You can expect a quiet, comfortable bedroom with a Queen Size bed and all linen supplied. You will enjoy bathroom of your own with nice thick bath towels, beach towels and a hairdryer also supplied for your convenience.
The HOUSE: You will share the rest of the house and all facilities with your friendly and knowledgeable host.
There is a fully equipped kitchen, cable TV, wifi internet access, a lovely courtyard garden (Japanese style), a sunny balcony for morning breakfast, washing machine and dryer and much more for you to use, relax with and enjoy. Feel welcome to cook in the kitchen (a fantastic supermarket is only 400 metres away for your shopping).
BREAKFAST: a formal breakfast is not provided but you are welcome to use the cereals, muesli, milk, tea, coffee, toast, jams, spreads and sugar that are in the pantry and refrigerator. You can buy anything else at the local supermarket and use the kitchen to cook your own (or have breakfast in one of the many cafes close by).
TRANSPORT: There is a choice of three tram routes close by: No. 96, 112 and 16 - all of which will encourage you to explore our lovely city sitting on our very own, unique tram network.
THINGS TO DO: DAY TRIPS: Because my house is located in a tourist precinct, there are many tours which can be booked and start close by: Phillip Island for the fairy penguin parade, The Great Ocean Road day trip, Healesville Sanctuary to see our unique Australian animals....... the list is endless and there are brochures at the house for you to choose from. If you want to splash out for a special dinner, why not catch the "Restaurant Tram" - fine dining while relaxing and looking at the passing views.
THINGS TO DO: CLOSE TO HOME: we have own own fairy penguin colony of approx. 100 little penguins who swim in at (email hidden) Kilda Pier, which is a short stroll from my house. Walk back through the Catani Gardens and see our possums at night. Other ideas include: Buy a Met Card (transport card for $7.00) and travel around on our trams for only $7.50 per day. You could go to the Eureka Sky Deck (a bird's eye view of our city from our tallest building), stroll around Albert Park Lake (Grand Prix circuit), Melbourne Botanical Gardens and Melbourne city centre (for shopping and exploring our laneways and bars). If you are fit and adventurous, have kite sailing lessons, catch a ferry to Williamstown, hire a bike and explore the local beaches and much more.
Meanwhile, safe and happy travels - or at least enjoy this window shopping of places you can stay with fellow travellers.
You will have access to the whole house including: living areas, kitchen, laundry, study, computer, WiFi, cable television, balcony overlooking garden, garden, your own room and own bathroom. Only area out of limits is owner's bedroom.
Depending on other social and work commitments, it is nice to interact with guests and share a glass of wine or cup of tea. I am well equipped with knowledge about my local area and sightseeing day trips and happy to provide ideas and advice to make your stay more enjoyable.
My home is a peaceful oasis in a bustling and vibrant (website hidden) Kilda offers the beach, Albert Park Lake, close proximity to central Melbourne (shopping and sightseeing, bars and restaurants) and 5 minutes walk from a busy bayside strip of shops and restaurants on your way to the pier and beach (for Kite surfing lessons, watching the penguins come in at dusk, swimming). There is also a world class aquatic centre close by and excellent public transport, parks, hire bikes and supermarket within 400 metres. This area is the best in Melbourne and you will love your stay here.
There are three tram routes (96, 112 and 16) within 300 metres of the house, so getting around on public transport is easy and convenient. A public transport card (MYKI card) costs $7 to buy initially, then only $7.30 for the daily fare.
My wife and I thorourly enjoyed our stay at Marjoleins house. We wanted for nothing; Marjolein had thought of every little detail to ensure that our stay at her lovely house was a pleasant one. Lashings of hot water, fluffy white towels and a super powerful shower added to our comfort, along with the super comfortable new bed. Her lovely house with modern kitchen, relaxing lounge/ diniing room and TV lounge created a unique ambience which enabled us to relax quickliy into the ST Kilda holiday scene. Marjolein was warm, freindky and helpful and we would strongly recommend anyone thinking of visiting this lovely location to stay at Marjoleins. During our short stay in ST Kilda we booked a trip on the Great Ocean road tour through Peter Pan Travel Agents. The tour operator, Otway tours was perfect for thouse who prefer smaller groups and at just 94 dollars it represented good value for money.
Dear Tony and Jeanette,
Thank you so much for such a lovely review!
I hope the remainder of your holiday in Australia and New Zealand continues to be a wonderful experience.
Great that you included the information about the Great Ocean Road for future airbnb guests..... much appreciated :-)
Best host ever! We will never forget this visit at Marjoleins house. So thankful for being able to use the kitchen! The room is perfect with space for your bags under the bed and also love the private bathroom we had. The cats are the best cats in the World. We will miss Marjolein and her cats so much. Not any 5 star hotel in the World beat this Place! We come again soon.
Dear Caroline and Emma,
Having guests as wonderful as you is the reason I occasionally host visitors on airbnb.I also loved your home-cooked Swedish meatballs and the dessert chocolate cake!
I hope that your amazing global journey continues to comprise a lot of happy times and will create amazing memories. I also hope to hear about your travels and stay in touch from time to time. Meanwhile, BON VOYAGE!
Staying with Marjolein has be our best airBnB experience to date (we stayed 4 nights). To begin, her house is gorgeous and immaculate (we loved all the artwork)! The guest room had cozy linens and our guest bathroom was stocked with fluffy towels and all the toiletries one may need. The house is a mere 2 minute walk to the tram which will get you to any point one may want to go in melbourne. Or stay in St. Kilda and explore Fitzroy or Acland street by foot. Marjolein is an incredible host, making us feel completely at home ~ we used her washer/dryer, helped ourselves to breakfast, and she even made us delicious smoothies our last morning. Basically, she has set the bar very high for any future airBnB stays! A few recommendations for foodies in the area~ Graze on Grey and Uncle were two of the best meals we had in Melbourne!
I had a fantastic stay at Marjolein's place for a week!
Her house is huge with tastefully chosen furniture.and equipped with all imaginable things you need.for a pleasant stay.
The guest room is wonderful, quiet, very tidy and with a very comfortable bed.
Within a 5 minutes walk you are on the beach or on a tram to the city center or you enjoy the St. Kilda shops and restaurants on Fitzroy St. which is also just a 5 minutes walk round the corner.
Marjolein is a wonderful host and I enjoyed the very nice and funny talks with her ... very inspiring!
It felt more like staying at a friend's place ... it can't be better!
Marjolein was an incredible host. She was extremely welcoming, and went out of her way to welcome us and show us around. Her house is amazing and gave our whole stay an extra touch of luxury.
We had such an amazing stay at Marjolein׳s house. This was our first airbnb experience renting a room inside a house (and not a whole flat) and at first the situation seemed as it would be uncomfortable- but we had a real positive experience. The house was beautiful, big and full of light. The bedroom and ensuite bathroom were extra clean, filled with all the appliances one might need. The living room was pleasant to sit in, the kitchen wonderful to cook in and the balcony a real treat for breakfast! The house is located in a perfect area, 10 min walk to the beach and Albert Park on the other side, supermarket and tram around the corner. Best bonus was the company: Marjolein was the perfect host. She was always kind and helpful, and shared with us her wonderful stories and career tips. We both have learnt so much! We already miss Peekaboo and Boots the lovely furry friendly cats. Marjolein was also kind enough to take us to see the penguins and possums and even the water rat. (!) The stay was relaxed and comfortable, and Marjolien was full of good smart ideas of how to keep the communication flowing and the stay easy and fun! We are already planning the next time to visit Marjolein and the cats.
Dear Liron and Dario,
Thank you for such a positive review. I hope we stay in contact...... I will be watching over your careers with interest. Hope the remainder of your Australia and New Zealand visit is wonderful and that you successfully chase the sun up to Queensland :-)
We had a fabulous stay at Marjolein's place. Her house is gorgeous - modern, well-kept, nicely decorated and furnished, and you can tell that she takes pride in her house. Our room was not huge, but there was plenty of space to store our luggage, and lots of closet and shelf space with coathangers for our clothes. The room, just like the rest of the house, is also well furnished and pretty, with a comfortable bed and soft sheets. The two cats are also gorgeous! I am not a cat person and usually dislike cats, but hers are beautiful and extremely tame. We hardly saw them though, I think they tend to keep to themselves. However, the best part of our stay was the warm hospitality we received from Marjolein. She made us feel so welcome, and told us that we were free to use the common areas as we like, and we were also free to use the kitchen. She was so easy to communicate with throughout the whole process, and made sure I knew exactly how to get in the house when checking in. Finally, she even allowed us a late check out at 6pm. At the end of our stay, I wish we had booked to stay longer! I definitely recommend staying here, gorgeous house, wonderful host, and so convenient to get to all the shops and restaurants in St Kilda.
I stayed with Marjolein for 6 days and had a fantastic time. Marjolein is a great host, very helpful and full of attention to the guest. Communication prior to arrival was excellent and Marjolein even made it possible to check-in in the middle of a working day, which I appreciated very much after a long flight.
Her house is exactly as described, beautifully furnished and decorated. I loved having breakfast on the balcony overlooking the beautiful backyard. The room provides everything one could imagine, from beach towels to umbrella. The bed is very comfortable and there is plenty of space in wardrobe and drawers. The private bathroom is just next door and also provides everything from shampoo to hairdryer.
Her two cats are very amiable and friendly. They love to be petted and I really enjoyed their company. In the evening Peakaboo sat on my lat and wouldn't stop purring. So cute!!!
I can wholeheartedly recommend a stay at Marjolein's home and would come back any time.
Thank you Marjolein for a wonderful time!
Absolutely lovely house and Marjolein made us feel most welcome. From the moment I booked the communication was fantastic and Marjolein made the process so easy.
Marjolein is a wonderful host who made our recent stay in Melbourne a pure delight. I would like to think that we have made a new friend ,so good was our interaction. The house is even more stunning than it appears in photos shown on this site , the amount of space is breathtaking. Being situated in St. Kilda it is perfectly positioned for visits to the City by tram , train or bus,a stones throw from the famous Albert Park , and only a few minutes walk from the glorious beaches .
Marjolein was also happy to show us around the area ,advise us on anything in and around Melbourne ,and always willing to spend time with us .And who can forget her two adorable cats,Boots and Peekaboo.
All in all a fantastic experience.
