About This Listing
Why stay with a host instead of a hotel?
Because you have a WHOLE HOUSE to share, a fully equipped bathroom, laundry, kitchen, living areas, cable TV, WiFi AND friendly advice and sightseeing ideas from a local resident. Can't beat that :-)
Modern town house, your own room and bathroom, close to many restaurants, bars, cafes and tourist attractions. It doesn't get much better than this in our lovely and elegant city!! You definitely won't need a car if you stay here.
If you are a single traveller or a couple, this will be the perfect place to experience a short stay in Melbourne. There are many things for tourists to do when they are staying in this area.
You will be located 300 metres from the famous St Kilda beach, 400 meters from Albert Park ( Grand Prix circuit), 4km from the centre of the city, (15 minutes by tram)
Your BEDROOM: You can expect a quiet, comfortable bedroom with a Queen Size bed and all linen supplied. You will enjoy bathroom of your own with nice thick bath towels, beach towels and a hairdryer also supplied for your convenience.

You can buy anything else at the local supermarket and use the kitchen to cook your own (or have breakfast in one of the many cafes close by).
TRANSPORT: There is a choice of three tram routes close by: No. 96, 112 and 16 - all of which will encourage you to explore our lovely city sitting on our very own, unique tram network.
THINGS TO DO: DAY TRIPS: Because my house is located in a tourist precinct, there are many tours which can be booked and start close by: Phillip Island for the fairy penguin parade, The Great Ocean Road day trip, Healesville Sanctuary to see our unique Australian animals....... the list is endless and there are brochures at the house for you to choose from. If you want to splash out for a special dinner, why not catch the "Restaurant Tram" - fine dining while relaxing and looking at the passing views.
THINGS TO DO: CLOSE TO HOME: we have own own fairy penguin colony of approx. 100 little penguins who swim in at (email hidden) Kilda Pier, which is a short stroll from my house. Walk back through the Catani Gardens and see our possums at night. Other ideas include: Buy a Met Card (transport card for $7.00) and travel around on our trams for only $7.50 per day. You could go to the Eureka Sky Deck (a bird's eye view of our city from our tallest building), stroll around Albert Park Lake (Grand Prix circuit), Melbourne Botanical Gardens and Melbourne city centre (for shopping and exploring our laneways and bars). If you are fit and adventurous, have kite sailing lessons, catch a ferry to Williamstown, hire a bike and explore the local beaches and much more.
Meanwhile, safe and happy travels - or at least enjoy this window shopping of places you can stay with fellow travellers.
You will have access to the whole house including: living areas, kitchen, laundry, study, computer, WiFi, cable television, balcony overlooking garden, garden, your own room and own bathroom. Only area out of limits is owner's bedroom.
Interaction with Guests

My home is a peaceful oasis in a bustling and vibrant (website hidden) Kilda offers our famous beach, Albert Park Lake, close proximity to central Melbourne (shopping and sightseeing, bars and restaurants) and 5 minutes walk from a busy bayside strip of shops and restaurants on your way to the pier and beach (for Kite surfing lessons, watching the penguins come in at dusk or swimming). There is also a world class aquatic centre close by and excellent public transport, parks, hire bikes and supermarket within 400 metres. This area is the best in Melbourne and you will love your stay here.

Marjolein made us feel very welcome from the moment she opened the door to us. The house is really fabulous and was in the ideal position for us to attend the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. The Albert Park track was literally 5 minutes from her door. It was also a short walk from the restaurants of St Kilda, as well as the beach, with excellent transport links using the tram system into the city. Marjolein was kind enough to take us on a walking tour of the area and provided a wealth of local knowledge. This was our first AirBnB experience and Marjolein has set the bar very high for any future bookings we may make. Many thanks Marjolein. It was a wonderful experience. We loved meeting you, as well as Boots and Peekaboo.
It seems evident from the overwhelmingly enthusiastic reviews of this Airbnb accommodation and host that there is little that can be added in the way of new superlatives. As a result of our recent 3 night stay here, we can echo all the positive comments regarding the exceptional quality of this accommodation and experience. Marjolein is a warm and gracious host with an appreciation of travel and a keen desire to optimize her guests' stay in her city, of which she is so justifiably proud. All the comforts reviewers cite such as the super comfortable bed, extensive storage space, use of a comprehensively equipped kitchen and genuinely welcoming ambience of her elegantly stylish but relaxed home seem to us a reflection of Marjolein's remarkable generosity of spirit that is the best of what airbnb offers. Upon our arrival, our gallant host -- after a busy, long and no doubt tiring day at work-- led us on an orientation walk around her dynamic and fascinating neighbourhood, including the local sites most meaningful to us. That first evening we spent an amazing half-hour with the fairy penguins which was absolutely magical for us and set the tone for a perfect stay. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay at least one more night. Thank you, Marjolein, for a wonderful introduction to Melbourne, hours of engaging conversation (and some laughs!), and for making us feel so comfortably welcome in your beautiful home. And hugs to the exceedingly adorable Boots and Peekaboo. We hope to see all 3 of you again!
Dear Tony and Val
Thank you so much for your reference!
As we discussed, I would welcome you back any time and especially if you could house sit the fluffy ones when I am travelling. Let's stay in touch.
Meanwhile I wish you safe travels with many happy memories to be created and reflected on. We forgot to take a photo "selfie" of the three of us!
Marjolein was the most wonderful host and I thoroughly enjoyed staying with her at her place. My days in St Kilda were my first airbnb experience and while I was a bit sceptical at first as to what it would be like to stay with a person I don't know at her private home, this turned out to be a wonderful experience: pleasant chats in the evening, two absolutely gorgeous cats, friendly advice whenever I needed it and even a sightseeing tour on my last day + taking me to the airport. Marjolein is a very nice woman, considerate, attentive and staying in her beautiful house is something I can highly recommend.
Marjolein was great host. Her beautiful modern home was in a fabulous area. She was very helpful in all respects. Situated adjacent to our bedroom was a nice private bathroom. I would definitely recommend it. Having a cappuccino in the morning was a perfect start to our days there.
Absolute pleasure meeting both of you! I hope that the remainder of your stay in Melbourne and the vineyards in the nearby Yarra Valley was a huge success, that the the golf tournament went well that you continue to have safe and happy travels.
My wife and I thorourly enjoyed our stay at Marjoleins house. We wanted for nothing; Marjolein had thought of every little detail to ensure that our stay at her lovely house was a pleasant one. Lashings of hot water, fluffy white towels and a super powerful shower added to our comfort, along with the super comfortable new bed. Her lovely house with modern kitchen, relaxing lounge/ diniing room and TV lounge created a unique ambience which enabled us to relax quickliy into the ST Kilda holiday scene. Marjolein was warm, freindky and helpful and we would strongly recommend anyone thinking of visiting this lovely location to stay at Marjoleins. During our short stay in ST Kilda we booked a trip on the Great Ocean road tour through Peter Pan Travel Agents. The tour operator, Otway tours was perfect for thouse who prefer smaller groups and at just 94 dollars it represented good value for money.
Dear Tony and Jeanette,
Thank you so much for such a lovely review!
I hope the remainder of your holiday in Australia and New Zealand continues to be a wonderful experience.
Great that you included the information about the Great Ocean Road for future airbnb guests..... much appreciated :-)
Best host ever! We will never forget this visit at Marjoleins house. So thankful for being able to use the kitchen! The room is perfect with space for your bags under the bed and also love the private bathroom we had. The cats are the best cats in the World. We will miss Marjolein and her cats so much. Not any 5 star hotel in the World beat this Place! We come again soon.
Dear Caroline and Emma,
Having guests as wonderful as you is the reason I occasionally host visitors on airbnb.I also loved your home-cooked Swedish meatballs and the dessert chocolate cake!
I hope that your amazing global journey continues to comprise a lot of happy times and will create amazing memories. I also hope to hear about your travels and stay in touch from time to time. Meanwhile, BON VOYAGE!
Staying with Marjolein has be our best airBnB experience to date (we stayed 4 nights). To begin, her house is gorgeous and immaculate (we loved all the artwork)! The guest room had cozy linens and our guest bathroom was stocked with fluffy towels and all the toiletries one may need. The house is a mere 2 minute walk to the tram which will get you to any point one may want to go in melbourne. Or stay in St. Kilda and explore Fitzroy or Acland street by foot. Marjolein is an incredible host, making us feel completely at home ~ we used her washer/dryer, helped ourselves to breakfast, and she even made us delicious smoothies our last morning. Basically, she has set the bar very high for any future airBnB stays! A few recommendations for foodies in the area~ Graze on Grey and Uncle were two of the best meals we had in Melbourne!
About the Host, Marjolein
I run a successful consulting firm which keeps me fairly busy during the day Monday to Friday but I still find time to travel overseas every year for at least one month. I can easily host a single traveller or a travelling couple in my lovely house located in a magical area close to the beach, the park and the centre of our city of Melbourne.
The location is within 400 metres of the famous St Kilda Beach and just as close to the Albert Park Lake reserve where the Grand Prix is held in March each year.
I am in my early 50's, ride a motorbike for fun, love skiing in Europe and am accustomed to having friends and guests stay over and am happy to provide you with ideas for your Melbourne stayover.
The only reason I occasionally host guests from airbnb is because it provides an opportunity to meet interesting people from around the world. Therefore, I will look at your profile, to see how you have described yourself and any partner you might be travelling with, to make my decision. Airbnb stays are very different from staying in a hotel.............. and you need to understand this as a prospective guest.
My experiences with airbnb have been fantastic and I have met people I will know for the rest of my life. Interesting, happy, engaging, respectful and cat friendly people who have understood how to share the house and amenities.
