The Neighborhood

Despite being located in and around Reykjavik's heartbeat - its culture, entertainment & attractions (restaurants, museums, bars, galleries, markets and shopings streets) - the apartment is located in a RESIDENTIAL AREA that feels both quiet and save. In the area you will find playgrounds and some public parks.

This area is the older western part of Reykjavik's city center, sometime referred to as "gamli Vesturbær" (old western town). Postal area is 101 as the most central of Reykjavik's downtown area.

This part of Reykjavik is without doubt among among the most intriguing area of the city. This is where many of Iceland's leading artists live (and also a good number of politicians and diplomats). It also houses some of the city's international embassies (including the French and Canadian ones) - and in recent years some guest-houses and smaller boutique hotels have started to emerge here.

From the harbor area (5-10 minute walk) you can take the ferry to Viðey island (just outside of Reykjavik in Faxaflói bay) and catch whale watching tours and other of the city's best sightseeing trips by boat.

------------------------------------------------------------------

THE STREET

The street consists almost entirely of residential apartments and houses. So you can stay central - but enjoy hassle free parking (great if you plan to venture outside of Reykjavik), privacy in a great neighborhood.

Near the street you'll also find the Pétursbúð local shop (open daily from (phone number hidden)). This is the local shop for everything. Well, almost everything. Elsewhere in the neighborhood you will find a supermarket which is open 24/7. In the apartment HOUSE MANUAL we list more services you might find useful, and you'll find around our place.

  • We had a fantastic stay with Randver in Reykjavik. The apartment is extremely well located with museums nearby and downtown just minutes away. We stayed as two couples, but this would be a great apartment for families. Randver and his family actually live here normally, so it's great to be in a real home that's warm and feels homely. The beds were comfortable and there was loads of space in the apartment. We felt very welcome and our host was able to help us with queries or offer some suggestions for the city. If we go back to Reykjavik, I think we'll stay here again! Would recommend :)

  • Randver's apartment was immaculately prepared for our stay. It was super cozy and had us feeling right at home in Reykjavik. The decor was wonderful as well. Thanks so much, Randver! Wish you and your family all the best.

  • This is a lovely. LOVELY, apartment. Perfect for a family with one/two kids interested in getting to know Reyjkavic. It is beautifully decorated in mid-century modern tones, complete with stylish vintage touches. The location is superb, 3 minutes from the harbor, 10 minutes from the city center, 2 minutes from the 14 bus, with views in all directions. It feels like home. The owners are extremely attentive and responsive to all queries and embody the very appealing way Icelanders have of making visitors to their country not feel like intruders or even irritating tourists. We would (and will) recommend this apartment to anyone.

  • A Great apartment for any family coming to visit Reykjavik ! The apartment is very charming, excellently located and the host was very nice, what more could you ask for? The stairs to the 3rd floor where the apartment is located is good to know about without being problematic for most including us. Should we come back to Reykjavik this place would be the first to look for.

  • This apartment is just perfect. In a quiet location but close to everything Harpa, whale watching, the market, restaurants, bars, great pools, all the key sights. Beautiful views from the kitchen onto the harbour. Spacious, clean and elegantly furnished. Ranver was super easygoing and extremely helpful. We would love to stay there again! Plenty of space for our family of four, 2 adults and twin eight year olds.

  • My family and I had the greatest time in Iceland! Randver & Eva's place was perfect for us - especially with a small child. The views from the apartment are amazing and one can't wish for a better location. They were so nice to let me arrive early (early flight from the US) and made us welcomed in every way. I'd definitely say that one of the main reasons that we had such amazing time in Iceland is because of Randver & Eva's cozy apartment where we could come to each night to relax after busy days of sightseeing. Hopefully they'll come and stay at my place one day!
    Thank you so much!

  • Fantastic stay in this apartment. The place was set up perfectly for our needs (4 people). Location is terrific- 101 is the place to be - close to downtown and old harbour area but in a neighbourhood away from it all. Around the corner from a guesthouse on the airport bus route so arriving was very easy.

This was our first airbnb experience, and we loved the feeling that we were crashing at a friend's house. Lots of room to move about, cook, and get out of each other's hair in different parts of the space. Made good use of the excellent record collection.

The hosts were very attentive and helpful, lots of good information before we arrived and periodic check ins to make sure we had everything we needed and to make recommendations.

    Recommend this place highly!

  • Without a doubt some of the most gracious and helpful people I've ever met. Eldar and Eva left us a comprehensive list of everything we would want to do/eat/see and all the details on their incredible apartment. Perfect location to walk to anything within reykjavik - great views from the apartment - cannot wait to go back to Iceland and stay in their place again.

    June 2013
  • Our stay with Eldar and Eva was impeccable. Great location, the most cozy and clean appartement and great service - in terms of hospitality, guidance and availability!

    May 2013
  • This is a wonderful cozy place that will make you feel right at home in Reykjavik, a close walk to everything on the west side of the downtown close to the harbor. The hosts are great people and make everything really easy! :)
