The casita was spacious, with room comfortably for four. Plenty of towels, its own private wifi router, a separate bedroom and main room in case some people want to stay up and some want to sleep. There's also a hammock and small sitting area outside. Fans in both the main room and bedroom kept air circulating and provided relief from the heat. To be expected in any cabin in the woods, there were bugs, but nothing too bad. Sounds of wind and of trees banging against the room were loud sometimes, but again, to be expected. Water shuts off from 7:30pm to 7:30am, though during our stay they had trouble one of the days. The jungle trail to the beach was nonfunctional, with fallen trees blocking it, but the road leading to the beach is short enough and the casita is right by the entrance for it not to be a significant bother. We got hit with a flight cancellation, and the staff was very helpful with extending our stay and arranging a shuttle. To note, the staff on hand only spoke Spanish, but that wasn't a problem. The pictures aren't accurate, and portray an inferior version of the actual casita. The bedroom has two beds put together to make a king sized bed, and the main room has two beds along the wall that we used for lounging and reading in the larger area. The shower is also larger than pictured.

The place was beautiful. A great oasis from town. Definitely not walking or biking distance from Nosara but very close walk to Playa Pelada, which is gorgeous. No surfing there though. We were immediately greeted by a wonderful staff and stayed in the Casita which was perfect. Like a nice one bedroom house. Simple with all the amenities. No A/C but didn't bother us. Deborah and the staff are very kind and accommodating. They have daily yoga there and breakfast there too. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a quiet getaway

Nosara Retreat was our second accommodation in Costa Rica during this trip. The location and proximity to the beach was perfect. The provided breakfast of toast and fruit was nice. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Our room was not so well kept. Not very clean on our arrival. Lines of ants crawling up to different walls, the back of the toilet was covered in loose dirt and dead bugs, oven door was visibly hanging off, and no towels on our arrival. The bugs weren't such a big deal as the room is semi open to the outside but it didn't feel as if the room had been cleaned thoroughly for some time. We checked in at 1pm and unfortunately the large steel doors of our room were being painted on our arrival which made for a nice strong smell. The host checking us in was very nice and noticed we had no towels. We were told she would bring some down to us but after returning from the beach at 4, there were still no towels and the office was closed for the day. So no towels until the next afternoon. Not a terrible stay, just by far not the best.

Staying in the Casita was quite an experience! When we arrived, we met Deborah who showed us the Casita and how everything worked. She was really lovely, always radiating off positive vibes. Her employees (Mandy & Theresa) were very helpful when we wanted to book an excursion and a taxi back to the airport. A few things to note: We never cooked in the Casita since the kitchen wasn't particularly appealing (the oven was also broken). The Casita is also home to many spiders, red ants and other critters - however, we imagine that's not something that can be helped when staying in anywhere in the jungle/beach of Costa Rica. It's ok though since the beach nearby is filled with some lovely restaurants 5-10 minutes away. It's important to note that the beach (Playa Pelada) is close like noted, however, Playa Guiones (the main surfing beach) is a 30-45 minutes each way along the beach. So you have to plan to bring everything for the whole day if you're going to spend the day at Guiones. From a surfer's perspective, probably better to stay closer to Guiones if you're planning on spending lots of time there and don't have a car. In the evening we would walk back from the restaurants of Nosara (which are reasonably priced) under the stars which was lovely - important to bring a flashlight though as it's noted in the house rules. It was very special to stay in the Casita and hear the Howler Monkey's each morning and to be surrounded by nature. The outdoor shower is also wonderful to use everyday. It's a lovely retreat, and the fresh breakfast of fruit, toast, fresh juice and coffee every morning was an amazing way to start the day.

This was exactly what we were looking for in Costa Rica. Our own private casita within walking distance of the beach, great company, great host, and lots of natural beauty. I highly recommend it!

Staying here was paradise. We were up in the canopy of trees in the jungle and could hear the ocean in the distance, birds, howler monkeys, and the buzz of the jungle. We became enveloped by the energy of the place. We slept wonderfully, food was great, accomodations were wonderful. Deborah and her staff was the best. Deborah makes you feel so welcome and anything you need or need to find out about, she is there to help. There was alot to see and do or just relax. Fun to meet other people too. Top-notch place and we'll be back.

I came to Costa Rica in 1989 and fell in love with Playa Pelada, the people and the country. The houses we had built over the years served as a retreat for my extended family. For years, we all came together during the Christmas holidays. Inspired by the vibrant tropical colors and beauty of people and local scenes, I painted pictures for each room. In 1994 I started a B&B on the property and a year later, moved here permanently. My dream for many years was to have a healing center. Recently we began hosting retreats. It is my joy to share this healing paradise with you.
