Welcome! Thank you for being our guest at Nosara B&B Retreat. Here you will find tips
and tricks to make your stay comfortable and rewarding!
Our Natural Environment
We take pride in our focus on sustainability and love for our planet, and request the same of our guests.
We have separate garbage pails, composting and recycling bins for convenience of your disposables. Please put the proper trash in each receptacle, clearly marked: Garbage, Recyclables & Compost. Remember to be sure that the lids are securely on, so as not to attract insects or animals.
While we love the natural habitat surrounding us, please be aware of attracting animals with food. It is best to have things stored in the refrigerator, cupboards or in your rooms when possible.
Please be mindful of helping us conserve energy by turning off any lights, fans, etc when you are not using them, and when leaving your room. Keeping Our Accommodations Conscious
Let us know if you would like to help conserve water by re-hanging your room towels on the rack so you can use them again. If you would like them laundered, we will collect them from your bathroom floor. We have beach towels for sale for visiting the beach.
Our septic system is sensitive and we kindly request that you dispose of toilet paper or other materials in the bin located in your bathroom. We will clear this out daily.
Help keep the rooms clear of sand by using the outdoor showers to rinse off after returning from the beach.

Recommended Safety Precautions
It gets quite dark by 6pm; it’s good to carry a flashlight to be on the lookout for animals and stay to paths. We have flashlights for sale in our store. Also, we recommend having a ‘buddy’ to walk with at night.
Since we are in a lush jungle setting, it’s a good idea to check & shake towels, clothes, shoes, and hammocks before using, just to be on the lookout for local inhabitants such as bugs, snakes, or scorpions. Generally these creatures stay away from humans, but it’s always a good idea to be aware of their existence in nature. Wear insect repellent when out and about.
Respect the sun! We are close to the equator, making the sun extremely strong in Costa Rica. Use sunblock and be especially careful between the peak hrs of 10am-3pm. It is best to gradually tan for that healthy tropical glow!
Stay hydrated! Drink lots of water!! It is safe from the tap, or we have filtered water available at the main house and at the pavilion.
Lock doors when you leave your room. Do not leave things unattended. For your convenience, we have a safe at reception where you can leave valuables. You are welcome to leave your key with us while you are out, as well.
Swimming - be careful of beach breaking waves during high tide & don’t swim past the breakers after high tide. To the left, down Playa Pelada, there is a wonderful spot to swim directly in front of Olga’s.

The second hardest part about Nosara Retreat is getting there, as it is a number of highways and windy dirt roads away from many focal points a tourist may come from. The hardest part about Nosara Retreat is leaving there, as you will not want to. The same conditions that make it a slight inconvenience to get to, become some of the best qualities about it. No matter how long you stay, you will lose track of the days and wish you had stayed longer. I stayed in the room next to the reception, but made friends with the group who occupied the top floor of the building with the outside kitchen and hammocks (I believe it was the Mango room). What a cool spot, I hope my house in the future can take some tips from the layout of this place. We saw many howler monkeys in the last few days of our stay, some with babies on their backs, leisurely moving about from tree to tree. My perfect day there was getting up at sunrise, walking to Guiones or Pelada, bodysurfing for an hour, coming back in time for a delicious breakfast cooked by Junior (Edwin), deciding where to adventure to for the day, then returning a little before sunset to watch the ball go down at Olga's whilst sipping on some beer. The staff at Nosara Retreat were great and made sure I had everything I needed and answered all questions I had about Nosara, and Costa Rica in general. The house dog Mia was also so cute, and could be spotted down by the water also enjoying the sunset with everyone. I will definitely come back, thanks so much for having me.
Andrew - it was such fun to see you experience and enjoy all the reasons we love our home so much!! Your photos are terrific - keep a watch for some of them over the coming weeks. Our corner of paradise is always here for you on your next Costa Rica adventure and we look forward to seeing you again!! Pura Vida!!
Deborah was super responsive with email communication prior to our arrival. Once we made it on the bumpy road to Nosara, we climbed the hill to Nosara Retreat where Theresa & Mandy were there to greet us. We stayed in a quiet, bright and airy room in the treehouse, with easy access to shared kitchen and a 5-minute walk to Playa Pelada. There were a few restaurants with 15-minutes walking distance, but we ended up hanging out most of the time in Playa Guiones, which is a half-hour walk along the beach. Breakfast was okay--toast, watermelon juice, and cut fruit. Overall this was a relaxing spot to call home for a couple nights.

About the Host, Deborah
I came to Costa Rica in 1989 and fell in love with Playa Pelada, the people and the country. The houses we had built over the years served as a retreat for my extended family. For years, we all came together during the Christmas holidays. Inspired by the vibrant tropical colors and beauty of people and local scenes, I painted pictures for each room. In 1994 I started a B&B on the property and a year later, moved here permanently. My dream for many years was to have a healing center. Recently we began hosting retreats. It is my joy to share this healing paradise with you.
