250 year-old stables in town centre

Apartment - Entire home/apt · St Mary's Pl, Chippenham, SN15 1EN, United Kingdom

Beautiful country apartment, old wooden beams, hardwood floor, 2 bathrooms with walk-in power showers, private kitchen. Town centre, shops, restaurants, Chippenham railway station, all a minutes walk away. Make yourself at home!

The Space

The apartment used to be a hay loft of the stables of the local manor house. Original wooden beams, hardwood flooring, and other features.

Now converted to luxury accommodation with all mod cons, 2 bathrooms with walk-in power-showers, private kitchen, internet etc

Situated just across the road from Chippenham railway station, with direct line to Bath, Bristol, London etc, and buses to local villages such as Castle Combe and Lacock (Harry Potter).

Parking is free on the street from 4pm till 10am, and all day Sunday. Paid parking is 5 pounds per day.

Being in the town centre, all the shops, restaurants, and take-aways are a minutes walk away. There's also a cinema around the corner.

It's the perfect place to stay whether for business or pleasure. For convenience and independence, there is self-service access via keysafes, but I or a nice neighbour will always be on hand to help you with anything you might need... so make yourself at home in my home!

There's no better place in town to stay!

Babies / toddlers: the flat is baby / toddler tested, has a child-safety gate, and hardwood enamelled floor for easy cleaning. There is room to leave a pram in the communal hallway downstairs.

Additional guests: there is a futon in the lounge, and a mezzanine double bed for upto 4 extra guests to sleep. There is also a second bathroom, so less waiting for the shower!

Guest Access

Guests have the apartment to themselves nothing is shared there, but there is also a communal hallway with room to leave a pram or bicycle.

Interaction with Guests

There is the option of self-service access to the flat so guests may have total independence and privacy. But I live downstairs and am more than happy to provide suggestions or help with your trip, and can sometimes join you or even take you on a trip :-)

The Neighborhood

Being right by the town centre there is lots to see and do, and yet the flat is tucked behind the garden of an old cottage making it very quiet. For outdoors there is Monkton park just next which door offers a great space for walking, running along the river, and there is a golf course and health centre with pool, spa, squash courts, and full fitness programmes all available on pay-as-you-go basis. A few minutes walk away is John Coles park which has a band stand with live music playing in the summer months. Both parks have excellent childrens playgrounds.
The old town has plenty of character, and there is a museum giving free tours, and a comprehensive tourist information office. All 5 minutes walk from the flat.

Getting around

The flat is situated just across the road from Chippenham railway station, with direct line to Bath, Bristol, London etc, and buses to local villages such as Castle Combe and Lacock (Harry Potter). There is a taxi rank at the station and also at the bottom of the road, and for groups this is an economical option (rates around 10 pounds to many local villages)

  • Alex's apartment in Chippenham provided an ideal base for us to explore towns and villages in Wiltshire and Somerset. The apartment has everything you need and is right across from the train station which is a stop for a lot of the buses as well - very handy. Bath is 15 minutes away, Bristol 30 minutes, Lacock, Castle Combe, Devizes, Bradford-on-Avon ... the list goes on. Alex was great, on hand when we needed him. We had a great time.

  • Thank you to Alex for a wonderful stay in Chippenham. Alex was very prompt to reply to our original enquiry, and all communication was straightforward, quick and clear. We had a lovely stay over New Year's Eve, and felt very at home. Alex's flat was very clean, cosy, and homely, with a welcoming vibe. Thank you!

  • The perfect choice! Alex met us at the train station and ensured we were settled in and had everything we needed right away. The flat was very clean and comfortable, and especially warm and cozy during our less than perfect weather! It was great to have our own space and we felt welcome in every way.
Alex was easy to get in touch with and responded to any inquiries very quickly during the booking process, which was greatly appreciated. My parents couldn't stop commenting on how perfect it was. We'd recommend his place to anyone looking for a place to stay visiting the area. Thank you so much!

  • Alex was absolutely fantastic, keeping in touch for the months before our booking, and replying quickly to any queries. The flat itself was warm and cosy, with everything we could need to make our Christmas stay comfortable - even a Christmas tree! Although Chippenham itself is quite a small town, Alex had provided a number of maps and local guides that came in handy. Perfect for a short getaway.

  • The perfect stay...helpful host Alex met us at Chippenham station and showed us to the flat. It is a minutes walk away, If that! Inside, the flat is well decorated and equipped. A really pleasant and comfortable place to spend a few nights.

  • We loved staying at Alex's renovated barn. It was a great place: comfortable, well-equipped, warm, spacious and cosy. It felt good to be there. Alex was very friendly and helpful. Great value!

  • Alex has done an amazing job with his stable conversion into four flats. I didn’t see the other three flats, but this one was very spacious. We had plenty of room to spread out for five nights. We loved having the kitchen, and cooked many meals “at home.” Also loved the washer/dryer. It was extremely convenient as we are on a long holiday. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, except a coffee maker. Alex was kind enough to give us his, but I felt a bit odd taking his only coffee maker. He also offered us any supplies we found in the kitchen. At first I thought they were supplies left by other guests, but then I realized it was his own food. Very generous of him.

The living and dining areas had lots of space. The TV/cable worked well. The wifi however was a bit intermittent. I had to keep re-booting in the living room to get an internet connection. My husband had better luck in the dining area. Maybe it was closer to the router downstairs?

The bedroom was very comfortable as well, and we greatly appreciated the drawer space he created for us. We had trouble adjusting the shower to a comfortable pressure that would ensure constant water temperature. It seemed full pressure was the best for water temp, but then the spray was a bit piercing.

Although there was no parking at the flat, it was easy to find street parking within a block or so. It was also nice to have until 10:00 to move the car the next morning.

The flat is in an incredibly convenient location in Chippenham’s town centre, as well as a great launching-off point for visiting the Cotswolds, Bath, Avebury, and Oxford.

    Response from Alex:

Thankyou the feedback is much appreciated. Here is an update on the issues which have now been investigated:
    1. Internet: tests are showing a steady 6Mb/s from all parts of the flat, but in case there are any issues I am available to address these or contact my ISP. Meanwhile I am planning to upgrade the service to fibre-optic which has recently become available in the area, and I will update the property profile when this is live.
    2. Shower pressure: yes the shower pressure is good coming from a Worcester Bosch 25kw gas combi boiler. The issue you experienced I found was the shower head where some of the pores were blocked with limescale (this is an issue in the whole region which is chalky, and also brings us all those white horses!) The head has been descaled for now, and will be checked ongoing, but again I am available to help if there is any such issue.
Wishing you all the best in your travels.

  • The five of us really enjoyed our stay in Alex's apartment. It has only two main rooms (plus a mezzanine for a bed) but it still felt spacious and comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom are in great condition and very user friendly. The bedroom opens out to a lovely garden and we enjoyed hearing birds (and owls!) through the window at night. Chippenham is a really great town - well worth the visit, and Alex's place is in a good location - close to the station, restaurants and shops.
