We want to thank Diana for her warm and inviting welcome. I would highly recommend booking with Diana who was a lovely and upstanding hostess with a charming listing (where she also lives). She communicated well throughout the booking process and responded quickly to concerns throughout our stay. The listing description was accurate and the place was organized and charming. NOTE: there is no air-conditioning. Our experience is as a family with three small children.
PROS: We were just a few steps from the small, gated-community swimming pool that was clean and fun. There is a picnic table and bathrooms by the pool. We felt VERY safe from any danger and traffic. The guards were vigilant and cordial. There were other families with small children that lived there or were visiting and were very friendly. The adults chatted by the pool and shared stories while the kids played. There weren’t so many small children that it would frustrate anyone without children. Everyone we encountered was respectful of one another to talk or just lounge undisturbed. Within walking distance, there was strip mall with a laundromat (very affordable), a veterinary clinic and groomer, an Italian food restaurant that served delicious brick-oven pizza, a gym, a bank branch, a Mexican food restaurant and a convenience store. It was not difficult to go to the beach, downtown, or on excursions. Cabs can get pricey but public transportation can get crowded and slow— pick your preference.
CONS: We had a few snags during our stay. We didn’t have our own transportation so it was difficult getting around. It wasn’t difficult figuring out the affordable public transportation (since I’m fluent in Spanish and asked lots of people lots of questions) but it was difficult carting kids and purchases around in stuffed buses and vans, making going to the grocery store a long day-trip. Two of the ten evenings were too hot sleep well, so I’d consider the season and expected temperatures a little better. According to Diana, this was her first time renting to a family that included small children so she proactively put away things with which children might break or hurt themselves. I appreciated her thoughtfulness, yet there were more things that I had to put away or out of reach and limit for the children. My youngest broke a lamp and Diana was so understanding and helpful. However, I would recommend the place for families with older children than mine (7, 5, 2). When we arrived, there was very little drinking water so we went to buy some. Diana later explained the process for obtaining drinking water and then helped us with it. The stovetop kept getting air pockets in the gas line and made a loud scary popping sound when the pilot would go out but we used it to safely cook many of our family meals. Watch out for a plant in the backyard that has fuzz and thorns that can hurt (Keep the kids and yourself away from it).
Diana is friendly and helpful. Her place is a very cost effective option for this area. There is a market, a laundromat, and a gym within a few min's walk. It's also easy to grab a cab just a few mins walk from her house. There is a cute pool area next to her house as well. It also felt very secure. The neighborhood has multiple security guards posted and checking all nonresident cars that enter the area. Be advised that there's no ac, but it wasn't that big of a deal. There's no Internet but there's a cafe close by that does.
Diana went out of her way to help me and even gave me rides when she could. She also bought some food and sodas in advance of me arriving which was above and beyond.
Condo and room nice. Pool meticulously cleaned ever morning and fun before heading off to the heart of Playa only 10 mins by Taxi/bus. Condo v. safe with 24hr security and barrier at the end of the street. Diana was very enthusiastic, helpful and willing to drive me to places in her car, that I would have perhaps never seen. This was great and something hotel accommodation could not offer. It was good to practice my Spanish too, although I feel Diana did not share my taste in my video selection.. Scarface ("Los malditos Colombianos"). It's a classic....jejeje. A nice young Mexicana I met around the pool, who had just brought her condo, invited me to "Alux" restaurant to celebrate. This is probably the best restaurant In Playa. It was a unique environment in which to eat. A great night out. Diana's neighbours from Canada were great and v. friendly. Diana showed she was very keen to host and willing to cook, which may be of great benefit to future guests. I was quite happy with just my breakfast and experiencing restaurants, cafes and bars. Diana took me to a couple of great restaurants that proved great food in Mexico needn't be expensive. It was fab, fun and certainly not an environment I wanted to leave for a dreary drab cold London! I remember sitting in a bar on Avd Quinta with Louie ( Who had left London to live in Playa) and Dean from Mexico City ( Entrepreneur & Real Estate) We were all drinking bottles of Pacifico and trying to chat up the cute waitress from Monterrey. It was her first (email hidden)...I thought that things don't get much better and realised that it was people that make places. What I discovered was that there were a lot of young people all with a story to tell and were heading towards Playa to make a new better life and I wish I could....That's why I will return....The Ideal elixir is not 5* Maldives....I was sceptical of Airbnb. James Reeves once said that "scepticism was an attribute of a good critic". Thanks to my recent experiences with Airbnb I remain less sceptical. Overall it was an interesting and refreshing experience and one that I would recommend.
Muy bien especificado el anuncio y cumple con lo dicho, Diana fue muy atenta y el conjunto residencial muy tranquilo y agradable.
Diana was a very welcoming host. We had a welcome bite to eat together. She went much out of her way to take care of us - driving us to show us internet and go get medicine when my mom came down with stomach sickness. She was very involved and wanting to help us through her sickness.
Diana slept on the couch in the living room downstairs. The three of us shared two bedrooms upstairs. There is another woman that also lives in the house but we barely noticed her. The house is has a beautiful array of artwork and furniture and is modest in size. The house is in a safe gated community. It is a bit out from the center (maybe 15-20 min driving or by bus). There is a commercial area with food, etc about 5 min drive away.
