Bonita Domes are sturctures built using Earthbag Technology. The walls are 18" thick (15% cement/85% earth) which provides the thermal mass to keep the buildings cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Principles of dome building=arches, geometry, friction. Elements in building=earth, wind, fire, air. Principles + Elements = Sacred Geometric Earthen Sturctures!!
Come visit our giant sandbox and earthbag sculptures in the desert and experience a sense of comfort, relaxation and rejuvenation. Where the cool winds and starry nights are the best part of the desert magic!!!
Amazing experience. Completely unique, energizing, inspiring! Aesthetically, it's awe-inducing - Lisa and her partner built this themselves! Cozy and perfect for a night or two, it's very close to two different entrances to Joshua Tree National Park (CONVENIENCE IS KEY!!). Removed enough that you can really see the stars and take advantage of the beautiful fire pit, hear the coyotes, and easily connect with nature. Not to mention, warm the morning chill with a hot shower + skylight in the middle dome (aka shower house). Lisa was sweet and easy to find - she gave us a quick tour, some paper bundles to start our fire, and to our delight, a treat of fresh fruit, yogurt, veggies and quinoa for breakfast. Can't wait to stay there again the next time I'm back! Thanks Lisa!
Lisa and Gabe have built something remarkable out in the desert that we were so lucky enough to experience for one night. Our "pod" was the coziest and most unique stay we've had! Solar powered lanterns provide enough light and a terracotta heater warms up the space plenty. Showers were more than adequate as well.
We were also lucky enough to participate in a full moon fire ceremony with our hosts and other community members from Joshua Tree--truly grateful to have been included and be present on a beautiful night. Cannot recommend highly enough!
My stay at Bonita Domes was fantastic! The place was all setup for us to have a great relaxing experience. The host were warm and friendly and informative about the area and the constructions of the pods. The open air kitchen has all you need to cook a great meal. The fire pit and the bathhouse is a must to utilize. The Pod itself was super cozy and warm for winter night stay. I will be back!
Very unique experience. Loved our cozy dome. We only stayed for a night but hope to come back and learn more about earthbag housing.
What a charming place! Fascinating construction, beautiful setting. We got there too late to enjoy the sunset, but that would be fabulous. Easy access to town and to the Park. Highly recommended!
Loved the pods! Totally magical. Definitely plan to come back with friends! Totally warm on the inside.
Excellent stay at Bonita Domes. Incredible way to spend a night in the desert, was warm in the dome despite the high 30's temp at night and lit up a beautiful fire in the fire pit. Highly recommended .
Staying at Bonita Domes was an amazing, spiritual experience. The pod itself was warm, clean and perfectly sized. Lisa and Gabe were great hosts. I highly recommend Bonita Domes to anyone looking for an awesome place to stay, because Bonita Domes offers just that and more.
Had an amazing time staying here... was quiet and lovely. It was the middle of winter but the pod was cosy and warm. Highly recommend
We stayed here early January and it really never got cold or drafty at all. The bedding was nice and warm. This was definitely a unique experience and it was inspiring learning about the earth bag construction behind these structures. Really motivated me to look into building one of my own. There's also a nice big bonfire area across the way that was open for us to use. Definitely a pleasant stay.
