About this listing
If you read some of our nearly 300 reviews, you will see why people have loved staying at our beautiful home in one of the best parts of Oakland. What may not be as clear is the added value. By including breakfast we save you $10 to $20 a day. By being so well located, we save you a car rental if you wish. The room is in the front of the good sized house and we are in the back so you have complete privacy. You don’t need the added expense of a whole house or apartment.
We offer a perfect place for travelers wanting an inexpensive alternative to hotels, for visiting grandparents, scholars, business people here for a few days and people transitioning to the Bay Area. Some of our more frequent guests are couples visiting their children and grandchildren in the area. Others work in Downtown Oakland and walk there.
Easy access to SF by bus, BART or even Ferry via a free downtown bus. If you are driving, it is 15 - 45 minutes, depending on traffic.
Although we are here at the same time you are, you will experience complete privacy if that is your pleasure or friendly talk if that is better for you. The house is large enough and the bedrooms far enough apart that we rarely run into each other except intentionally.
Huge bedroom with queen bed and bath en suite. Mounted cable TV, wireless internet, window seat, refrigerator, kettle, kitchen use, washer and dryer use, beautiful garden and occasional living room use. Weekly linen and cleaning included.
We'll put out coffee, juice, fruit, cereal and bread for toasting.
In addition, we can take care of your office needs such as scanning, faxing, and copying.
One very friendly but sometimes shy mid-size dog.
LOCATION: ½ block from beautiful park and garden, 300 yards from Lake Merritt. Short walk to restaurants, theaters, Saturday Farmer's market, Oakland downtown & BART to San Francisco and cities around the bay. Commuter bus or casual carpool to SF 3 blocks away.
If we are available, we'll drive you to Oakland airport when you leave or to the BART to get to SFO.
PARKING: You are welcome to park in our driveway while you are loading and unloading. After that, we can negotiate your ability to share that space. Street parking is difficult but possible. If you are like many of our guests who just park the car and take public transportation for the duration, we will happily put your car in the garage.
Suggestion: There is so much going on here. Go online to Goldstar to get an idea of the 100 or so plays, tours, and other exciting events; all at half price! You can sign up for free.
When you book with us, we will send you a welcome packet with a lot of local information. Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you.
You will have your own key and will access through the front door. We live in the house but stay more in the back. You have your own en suite bath. You can use the kitchen and deck off the kitchen overlooking the beautiful park like back yard.
Interaction with guests
We actually do socialize with our guests but only to the extent they are comfortable. We are always available for information or suggestions.
Other things to note
We have a supply of toiletries so no need to pack them.
Normal - no smoking, excessive alcohol or rowdy parties. Strong fragrances linger so we prefer no perfume or strong aftershaves. We clean up all breakfast dishes. If you use the kitchen for special needs, which is allowed, please clean up. Tell us about spills. We're helpful and non-judgemental. Checkout is at noon. We are happy to keep luggage outside the room for the afternoon of departure.
Cancel up to 5 days before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.

We are really enjoying being AirBNB hosts. We're kind of naturals at it. Pat is retired and Lynn mostly retired as well. We love to travel when we can, see friends, attend theater and movies, enjoy our many wonderful Bay Area restaurants and take walks around the neighborhood with our dog, Chloe. Our kids, Gabriel and Liz are grown. Gabriel and Sarah have been happily married for five years and Liz, who lives in London, married Henry last October. The latest addition is a granddaughter born to Gabe and Sarah! We're in heaven.
