The House of Tobacco
The House of Tobacco is an early twentieth-century building where tobacco, once considered a real richness of the area, used to be manufactured. Stone made, with a garden in the front, it is a big house located along the main road of Vitigliano, a small town near the thermal bath of Santa Cesarea (4 kilometres from the sea). It is located in the Adriatic coast of the Salento, the southern part of the “Italian heel”, between Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca (Apulia Region).
The house was renovated on 2006 in line with its traditional architectural style. Three wide master bedrooms (one with an alcove with two additional beds) are on the first floor, each one with private bathroom. A flat with two communicating rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen is in the mid-span floor. An apartment with bathroom and kitchen, equipped for disabled persons, is in the low ground. A laundry machine services is also offered. A peculiarity of the House of Tobacco consists on the huge social space at clients’ disposal, a large hall of about 150 square meters and two more of a smaller size, a big dinning hall and a big kitchen completely equipped and with a dish washer. Guests can also enjoy of a well furnished library, a stone fireplace and a variety of board games.
The House of Tobacco is environmental friendly, equipped with solar panels for hot water and electricity. The receptive offer is inspired by the value of authenticity, both in the makeover of the house and in the will to make visitors aware about the local traditions with a special care for the gastronomy. Breakfast will include Salentine food specialities, both sweet and salty.
