Waterside Cottage, by the sea, Skye

The Space

We fell in love with Waterside Cottage when we moved to the island in 2011. After many happy hours spent revealing stone walls, reviving wooden floors and carefully choosing a mixture of antique, vintage and modern furnishings which we felt suited the character of this wonderful house, we welcomed our first guests in May 2012. Since then we have received some amazing comments and are delighted that visitors from 15 countries (and counting) have so far enjoyed the delights of Waterside. We hope you will join them.

Situated right on the shore, Waterside Cottage dates from 1857 and is packed full of character and charm with a little bit of luxury thrown in. It has 4 bedrooms (3 with sea views), 3 bathrooms, kitchen,lounge/diner and conservatory and is decorated with a mixture of carefully chosen antiques and more modern items. Complementary wifi, an upright piano, a big selection of books, games and DVDs, cosy dressing gowns and our favourite Arran Aromatic toiletries are a few of the more personal touches we hope you'll enjoy. A mutlifuel stove makes winter stays as toasty as summer ones and the way the house is laid out means that it is just as welcoming for 2 people as it is for 8.

Brilliantly located on Broadford Bay with views onto the water and the hills beyond, the cottage is in walking distance of all amenities and is easy to reach by car from the Skye bridge or from the ferry at Armadale. It makes a great holiday base for families, couples, friends and groups allowing you to explore the whole of Skye and Lochalsh. We even welcome up to two well behaved dogs. (small charge applies)

The family friendly Hebridean Hotel is around 2 minutes walk away and the shops and cafes of Broadford are within 1 mile. You can walk onto the shore from the garden or just watch the birdlife (greylag geese, herons, ringed plovers, oyster catchers, curlews, shelducks, widgeon, sandpipers) from the window.

There is lockable storage for bikes and at high tide you can launch kayaks and canoes from the garden. Plockton, Sleat, Elgol and Cuillin and Kintail hills are all within easy reach.

Accommodation includes one King size double, one Twin (or Superking), one Double ensuite (ground floor) and one Double. All bedrooms have their own washbasins. There are two additional bathrooms (one with bath, one with shower), both with underfloor heating. The Lounge/Diner has a woodburning stove and an upright piano which you are very welcome to use (please just don’t put your drinks on it)! A fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, double oven. A utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. A conservatory with views onto the sea.

  • Fiona's cottage is really lovely and comfortable, it was a real pleasure to come back after long walks in the rain ! It is well equipped and the decoration makes you feel at home. Fiona was very kind and offered us some nice local food. Skye is a beautiful island and we had a great time there despite the weather.

Hi - After many years based in Glasgow and heading out to explore Scotland at the weekend, David and I and our soppy pointer-cross Ben finally made the break and moved to Skye last year having fallen in love with Waterside. David's from Oban and has spent many years climbing ..now that has been overtaken more by cycling, mountain biking, hill walking and exploring - usually interrputed by our sampling of local coffee shops and cafes! We both love travelling and cycling the Carretera Austral in Chile beckons in the new year we hope. I've worked in the arts sector and production and continue to work freelance on different projects, so the culture and traditions of Skye and the highlands are a big part of the wonders of living here for me. Meeting new people from different places is another one of the joys of life and we've already met some great people - not a few of whom we have captured and taken to the pub to introduce them to whisky and the local music..well it has got to be done!
