We had a fantastic time in La Hamaca; it is a paradise on earth! 7 of us stayed here for a week and found the accommodation very comfortable. Everything is very beautiful on the finca and in the region. Mary and Alfonso are a couple of hosts like no other, thank you for your hospitality, warmth, respect for our time and plans, the delicious breakfasts, they had super ideas! They know well the nearby cities, so they advised us on activities and places to visit.
La Hamaca is a very well cared for hacienda with many rooms, a large kitchen, open gardens and spaces and especially hammocks hammocks hammocks! We visited with our dog (a boston terrier) and he may have had the best holiday of all of us, joining Alfonso & Mary's two lovely pets for daily puppy playtime!
Some of our favorite excursions were the "do-nothing" activities in the hammocks, the horseback ride through Cocora & the Santa Rosa thermales.
The only downside for some visitors - maybe just a disclaimer - is that access to the finca is not especially easy. It is situated along dirt roads winding through the surrounding plantations. For us this was a selling point and added to the ambiance; but for travellers who get car-sick easy - bring your Dramamine !
What can I say! Alfonso & Mary have to be two of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and dealing with. They are great hosts & responded to every email promptly and answered every question thoroughly. La Hamaca is a beautiful place and the accommodations are excellent. Alfonso was waiting for us at the airport, as promised, and drove us back at the end of our stay. The breakfasts that Mary prepared every morning were fantastic and she served different specialities each day. We arranged for Alfonso to take us to different excursions and tours that he had recommended and never once did he disappoint. I stayed here with my wife, mother & mother in law and I speak for all of us when I say La Hamaca needs to be experienced. Gracias por todo Alfonso y Mary.
La Hamaca is far more serene and beautiful than the pictures can show. Basically, It is a complete house with a choice of 3 bedrooms (we used 2). Very nice bathrooms. The hosts, Mary and Alfonso, live on-site and are bilingual. The experience was far nicer than I or my friend expected. We we're met at the Pereira airport by Alfonso and driven the 30-40 minutes south of the city to the rural location of La Hamaca. It is surrounded by coffee farms, as well as, avacodo, banana, plaintain, and citrus fruits. La Hamacha itself is about a 2000 square foot house in excellent condition sitting within about 1.5 acres of beautiful lawn, gardens, and trees. Mary made us wonderful Colombian breakfasts, often using fruits and vegetables grown on the property.
Each day was packed with activities and Alfonso was our tour driver and guide. We visited beautiful villages, hot springs, rode to 9000 ft on horseback to view hummingbirds, and toured a coffee farm. The days were full and very pleasant. On our last day, Mary and Alfonso even drove us to the airport. Really got a taste of authentic Colombian life. We arrived as guests and left as friends. Thank you Mary and Alfonso.
Alfonso and Mary both were very careful to ask us what we wanted to do, to eat and to see. They were very patient and helpful. We felt like honored guests or family rather than renters.
The description was accurate, but could never fully convey Alfonso and Mary's hospitality.
Staying at Mary and Alfonso, was an amazing experience matching to our perfect Columbian holiday puzzles. We really felt like home and we did not want to leave them. We really enjoyed our time to the fullest and the time was unfortunately flying so fast.
Thank you Alfonso for showing us the beautiful corners of Pereira. You are a real expert in this area. Alfonso knows every road, every bamboo tree, all the good places to eat, places with amazing views. He told us lots of stories behind, offered us delicious local food, was waiting for me while I did some girl shopping. He ist the best private guide and photographer ever. :) If you search for an interaction with local people and you are not a big fan of tourist places then definitely decide to stay at Alfonso`s and Mary`s place. The Finca is a paradise(really quite), we really loved their Hamacas and the home is sooo cosy. Mary makes every morning delicious breakfast – every day something different and yummy fresh juices. After every trip she welcomed us with a big smile :)
Thank you for letting us to feel like at home. You are GREAT.
We will come again, in 10 years :-***
Our stay with Alfonso and Mary was by far and away the highlight of a 3-week trip across Colombia. La Hamaca Finca is a true gem of a house and Alfonso and Mary go above and beyond to be outstanding hosts and more than that, to become your friends while you're staying with them.
- The house is very spacious with tons of space to relax (four comfortable hammocks on the beautiful patio, large garden, etc)
- There are plenty of friendly animals on the property (Two dogs, a rabbit, a parrot, geese, little ducklings, chickens and roosters, and even an iguana!), making La Hamaca a great option for families with young children
- Mary cooks an amazing breakfast for you each morning, with fresh eggs from the Hamaca's own chickens and out-of-this-world cupcakes (ask for the Banana or Arequipe-filled ones for an ethereal experience)
- Alfonso is extremely knowledgeable about the local area and can make arrangements for activities to fill your days with things you'll enjoy - options include visiting a local coffee plantation (highly recommended - a great experience to understand how Colombia's most famous export is made!), hiking (also a highlight), river rafting, shopping for arts and crafts in Salento, visiting local hot springs, and more!
If you're looking for a place to relax and experience the small neighborhoods and communities of Colombia's coffee region, La Hamaca is the place to be and Alfonso and Mary are the people to do it with. I'm already looking forward to my next stay at La Hamaca and I am excited for Alfonso and Mary to keep sharing their home, culture, and friendship with future guests from Airbnb.
Alfonso and Mary were the most fabulous hosts. From communication before the trip to the airport pickup to the torus and fresh baked muffins, our experience was unbelievable. Alfonso was knowledgeable about the area and took us to many wonderful spots. He customized the tour for our needs and likes. Mary is an excellent cook and the breakfasts were delicious. The rooms were great - clean and even better than the photos. The back yard, hammocks, and patio was a place to enjoy and be amazes by the natural beauty. Mary and Alfonso made us feel at home. I would go here again. Visit this place! You won't be disappointed!
