If anyone is looking for a great way to discover the Pereira Coffee Area dont look any further. La Hamaca Finca is the one-stop shop. Alfonso & Mary are truely great guests who will welcome and entertain you with their sincerely colombian warmth. Decoration and furnishing of the Finca makes you immidiately feel at home and part of the family. The Finca is rather remote from downtown Pereira (45 minutes) , but that makes it a true Colombian rural feeling. At small extra costs Alphonso will be more than helpfull to do the airport pick-up and drive you around in his modern4x4 car (suits 6 adults) to show you the highlights of the area, while Mary prepares Michelin star dinners with fresh home grown ingredients from their beautifull garden. Both are bilingual (spanish-english) that helps a lot in understanding the beauty of the region. And dont forget to hang out in the Hamaca's spread out all over the Finca! Communication is superb, rooms clean with all facilities working perfectly. Out best Air B&B expierence so far.
Alfonso and Mary are incredible hosts. They made our family feel at home and truly strive to make every experience great. Alfonso knows the region well and will make your stay special by showing you around - there is no way you'd be able to match this experience any other way. They treated our children wonderfully and Mary even made us a cake when there were birthdays to celebrate! Really you can't find a sweeter, kinder, couple out there. Highly recommended!
My parents, my husband, and I had a fabulous time at La Hamaca! Alfonso picked us up at the airport, and was an amazing guide to all kinds of wonderful sights and restaurants all over coffee country. He showed us local places to eat and the best things to see and enjoy. A highlight was the trip to the hot springs! We very much enjoyed their beautiful home. It is peaceful and surrounded by gardens filled with fruit trees and flowers. Because my dad loves flowers, he was totally enchanted by the gardens. We also loved all the birds in the gardens. Additionally, the breakfasts Mary made were delicious and filling, providing a hearty start to big days of touring. They were especially wonderful because they included lots of fruits from La Hamaca's gardens, and other local foods. Whether it was relaxing in the hammocks, enjoying a meal on the wraparound porch, or interesting conversation with Alfonso & Mary, we loved our entire stay. My husband and I hope we can go back someday soon to do some of the hikes Alfonso told us about!
Our hosts Alfonso and Mary were superb (5 stars), to be perfectly honest the best customer service received in all of Colombia. From the initial contact over email, Alfonso went above and beyond to accommodate our needs (4 traveling ladies) from researching our connecting bus to Medellin once we left La Hamaca, to being our personal guide for 2 days of exploring the near by region of Finlandia, coffee region, Salento and Cocora. We had no set plans and Alfonso made sure we made the best of our time as well as being very knowledgable about the places we visited. We all felt very safe and out only regret was not staying more days! The property is outstanding and Mary attention to detail was impeccable, from the welcome exotic fruit drinks, to having extra towels packed when visiting local hit springs, to the tasty breakfast and most all of catering to potential plans we had in other parts is the nation. Mary took it upon herself to call on our behalf and make reservations to a recommended resort in Islas deal Rosario which was so worth it. I would definetly come back to La Hamaca if I return to Colombia. My only suggestion is to take lots of bug spray because the mosquitos come out after 4 pm. Outside of that you will not regret your decision to spend your Vacations with Alfonso and Mary in this very authentic part is the country where the coffee is the best I've had in the world! Great find!
La Hamaca - a little paradise!!!!!! We weren't exactly sure what to expect, since the hacienda is situated quite a bit outside the city of Pereira, but the moment Alfonso picked us up, we knew we were in good hands. He speaks perfect English and explained a lot about the area and its customs. Any animal lover will be in heaven: 2 dogs, a cat, 2 parrots, "guarding" geese and chickens. If you don't like animals, no problem. They'll keep them away from you. Mary couldn't do enough for us to make us feel comfortable and Alfonso, drove us around for two days and took us for a fantastic hike. (a little ambitious, but unforgettable). He took us to the local spots with their own specialties and a coffee tour. Our only regret: we should have booked for a longer stay.
2nd time at La Hamaca was as good as the first -- a short but excellent vacation experience for our family. The surroundings in the midst of the zona cafetera are beautiful and relaxing. Alfonso and Mary made use completely comfortable and were very sensitive to when we wanted to interact and when we just wanted time alone to enjoy ourselves in the peaceful setting. It is a great experience whether you want a lot of guidance and suggestions of places to visit, or whether you just want a quiet place to stay. We will be back for another visit!
