The Jade House is a delightful, private cottage overlooking the famous Hongi Hika Pa site, a tranquil river and the Keri Keri Inlet. This historic house is set in a secluded corner of the beautiful, mature gardens of Pagoda Lodge, with rare trees and contemplative garden ornaments including stupas and life-sized Buddhas. The sweeping Pagoda Roof reflects it’s ancient Chinese history, as it was built by an eccentric Scotsman to house a priceless collection of Jade from China in the 1930’s.
The bedroom/living room has subtle Asian décor and a queen bed. There is a separate fully equipped kitchen and small bathroom with toilet and shower. The deck surrounds three sides of the house and has superb river, inlet and forest views.
Below is a patio with gas barbeque, jetty with kayaks and nearby swimming hole.

Interaction with Guests
Some guests like privacy, while others like interaction and guidance on local attractions and events. We are happy to help when asked.
The creative tropical gardens and park like grounds go down to the edge of the river. We are surrounded by horses and luxury properties on one side and a river and famous, historic reserve and on the other side. The river flows down the entire length of our property and meets the KeriKeri Sea Inlet . A walking track leads to two waterfalls (considered the best walk in the area) & starts at our Lodge.
Great kayaking on the river and we have a private jetty.
It only takes 20 minutes to walk to town through the woods, and there are good local taxis and inter-city or major town bus services.

The owners, Kathy and Stephen Frewen, spent more than 20 years in Asia and were immediately drawn to the harmonious balance of “earth, wind and water”. The pagoda roofs, the variety of rare and mature trees, the tranquil river and the abundant bird life all create a certain magic, now enhanced by the serene Buddhas from Borobudur.
