About this listing
Located 6 miles from downtown Santa Fe, on a private 5 acre lot in a small valley, this house is perfect for an artist or someone (or a group) that want to be in the beautiful quiet mountains yet near Santa Fe's tourist attractions. A 15 minute drive from downtown in a secure gated community off Double Arrow Road, this rustic 1700 square foot house is just the place to relax! (1.5 miles of it is a dirt road so you want a 4 wheel drive in the winter when there's snow!) French doors surround the living room with an 18 foot ceiling and skylights making it well lit and spacious. Fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom keep you cozy in the winter, along with radiant heat throughout the floors. The bathroom has an old style clawfoot tub with a shower above it. We have our own well meaning clean healthy water! Please do NOT put anything other than toilet paper in the toilet as it s a private septic tank/nor down the drains please as it will clog it!
Step outside the house you can go on great little hikes or down the hill to the natural pond. At night see the stars like you've never seen them if you live in the city. There is very little landscaping so it's not as nice as it could be right around the house (see photos) but it won't stop you from sleeping like an angel.
Santa Fe's a great little city, if you need any info on where to visit, to eat, which galleries to see, let me know, I'm an artist here and can tell you all the best places.
Pet friendly :)
The pilot lights must always be on the 6 gas burner stove. It's better to use the front burners if possible.
Please do not put anything but liquid down the drains, there is no trash disposal.
There are 2 gas alarms in the house for security.
The fridge is new.
Living room (for winter only)
One of the thermostat is on the wall. The others in the 2 bedrooms have to be turned on in the winter at the minimum 60 degrees. You will hear a click when it comes on, as the heat is radiant and the pipes must not freeze!
I would appreciate no animals on the couch as they could scratch the leather.
The bidet is not working.
Nothing big in the toilet as it would clog my septic tank. (nor any type of draino or chemical materials)
Please leave the window sills clear of objects.
The neighbourhood does not approve of leaving lights outside ,they call it light pollution. Please turn off the lights in front of the house at night, thanks!
Myself, my girlfriend and our two dogs had a great time staying at Jeremiah's place. His mother Catherine was a welcoming host and gave us the run down on the place upon our arrival. The house is nestled into a beautiful dry forest landscape and was the perfect place to stay for the weekend, especially with two dogs in tow! The house lets in plenty of natural light and is only 10-15 minutes from downtown Santa Fe. If you're looking for hotel type cleanliness then this may not be the place for you but if you're looking for a place with some nice natural separation from the city center then staying at the retreat is highly recommended.
What a wonderful spacious, well-lit house on the edge of the Santa Fe National forest. So peacful and quiet. Catherine welcomed us to the house, gave us the keys and departed leaving us and our two friends from London to take care of ourselves... And that we did with gusto! Once we got the hang of the circuitous drive down the mountain roads into Santa Fe, it quickly became the perfect getaway from that sometimes too touristy place.
Catherine is so gracious and has a brilliant spirit. Her house is a multi-layered art.clad-desert-clay masterpiece. It reminded us of a French country home with so much character and beauty. The beds were a bit soft & broken-in for my taste, but I love firm beds, so this is just my opinion!
Enjoy this place-- it is so unique.
Staying with Catherine, Jeremiah's mom, was wonderful! Her home was quiet and gorgeous. We really enjoyed all her artist touches and the beautiful landscape around the house. At first it seemed far off and we had trouble finding it on the dirt road but after the first time it was really simple. A gorgeous bit of Santa Fe.
This was my first time using airbnb to book a place and my first trip to Santa Fe, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. However, the entire experience greatly exceeded all of my expectations. This house has a wonderfully unique character to it and the rooms are flooded with sunlight during the day and moonlight at night (we stayed when it was full moon). The natural light gives the home a positive energy both day and night. The location of this house is also great as it is situated in a gated community in the Santa Fe hills, but it is still close to downtown. We enjoyed walking around the trails close to the house, and we enjoyed hiking up to the top of the hill to watch the sunrise and take pictures one morning. Personally, one of the random things I enjoyed most was using the gate access card to open the gate. I pretended I was a rich person driving up the hill to my home, before snapping back to reality:)
The host, Catherine, also helped to make this experience so great. She was very kind, and went out of her way to make sure everything was okay. Throughout our stay she kept in contact with us, and answered our questions about what sights we should see in Santa Fe and the surrounding area. Overall, this was probably the best vacation I have ever been on, and I don’t believe it would’ve been nearly as enjoyable if we would have stayed in downtown Santa Fe or rented any of the other houses I was considering. Renting this house for the week was super easy through airbnb, and the house was perfect for us. If you’re considering renting this house during your stay in Santa Fe: Do it. You’ll be glad you did!
Title says it all! Awesome house, beds were comfy. We had everything we needed. Very secluded. We would definitely stay here again!
We've been long time visitors of Santa Fe and we were excited to meet Jeremiah and Catherine. Amazing hosts. As excited as we are for the city and the galleries, we found ourselves enchanted by the property. The house is tucked away in a beautiful mountain setting and the surrounding landscape kept my small family so entertained that we rarely went into town--even though it's a short 15 minute trip down the mountain.
Catherine is a working artist and we had the pleasure of sneaking over to her studio to watch her in action. Very cool.
A caring bunch and an awesome home!
