My husband and I stayed in San Miguel de Allende for 5 days. We enjoyed this very much! Just want to give to Sergio my most sincere appreciation for his assistance, he was a great host to us!. We stayed in a very nice apartment in a great location! The space and privacy were a plus!! Very close to El Centro as this was important to us. He made this possible to us and we are very greatful to Sergio for this!. With no doubt, on our return to this magical town we will contact Sergio for our stay in San Miguel de Allende! Thank you Sergio for everything!
We totally loved our "comfortable room in Casa Mexicana" and it was all that the description promised and more! We wanted a truly authentic Mexican experience and we got it! Casa Mexicana is in Bario San Luis Rey, a ten minute bus ride out of San Miguel; it's a typical Mexican neighbourhood, San Miguel style. The cobblestone streets are lined with plain, high, walls of stone or brick; each home has a wood or metal gate that opens into the courtyard and a different world.
Casa Mexicana is enchanting - the courtyard is sunny and bright, fragranced by orange blossom and features the biggest, healthiest agave I've ever seen. Table and chairs under the orange trees offer an inviting spot for any meal but we especially enjoyed breakfast out there. The house is charming - immaculately clean, tastefully furnished, with some very handsome older pieces. The "comfortable room" is on the second floor, up beautifully tiled terra cotta stairs which exit onto an exterior walkway, with wrought iron railings, pots of succulents, a bench for reading (or just dreaming) and another set of stairs to the roof, from which we enjoyed some spectacular sunsets. Our room was bright and welcoming; a double bed and a twin, both very comfortable; a small but delightful bathroom with a San Miguel "skylight" and colourful Mexican tilework that extended into the shower. A bonus was a closet - no having to live out of my suitcase!
Sergio was super helpful, he and his wife showed us around the neighhbourhood and made sure we knew where the stores were and how to use the bus system - the bus stop is literally right outside the door. We spent time in "Centro" enjoying the plaza, the church, the shops and the markets and museums. We took day trips to Guanajuato and Dolores Hidalgo and steeped ourselves in the history of these places - I could imagine that I was in the crowd outside the church in Dolores, in 1810, where Fray Hidalgo issued el Grito de Independencia! And when we returned "home", Sergio and his lovely wife were often there to help us as we tried to describe our adventures in Spanish. They were wonderful hosts, we have not one single complaint - except that we wish we'd booked for longer!
