The Space

The Storybook Cottage in Topanga Canyon features views of unspoiled forests, lots of windows, and flowers all around. There is a small kitchen and living area, detached loft bedroom and detached private bathroom with shower. High speed internet, and close parking. Choose to sleep either in the small A-frame attic bedroom or downstairs on a comfortable pull out sofa. The cottage is located in an intentional community in a lovely park-like setting in a forest of ancient oaks.

This one-of-a-kind cottage is an actual work of art created by the artist Shrine. This cottage is fairly compact, so it's most appropriate for a single person or couple.

This property is situated on 12 acres of land with an artistic and bohemian feel, minutes from the center of Topanga, CA. You'd never know you were anywhere near a city. There are laundry facilities, a communal kitchen / living space with a 100 year old fire place.

The location is idyllic, in the mountains with access to nearby hiking trails, a creek.

The world famous Inn of the Seventh Ray is just down the street, with fine dining next to a flowing stream. They have a wonderful Sunday brunch.

We have lots of other cottages available on the same magical property:

For example check out the amazing "Lovely Apartment" which has a large private deck with a stunning 360 degree view:

We are only a minute to the village of Topanga, and 10 minutes to the Pacific Ocean with lots of Beaches and Restaurants. Amazingly it's less than a twenty minute drive to Santa Monica (10 fwy), Malibu or Calabasas (101 fwy).

We recommend the Inn of the Seventh Ray, Froggy's Fish Market, Hidden Treasures super funky vintage Shop and the lovely waterfall @ Jalan Jalan imports, all only a few minutes drive.

Cell phones may not work here, but there is total coverage of wireless internet and we can provide a landline with unlimited calling for a small daily fee.

  • I am so in love with this area of Topanga!!! David was a really nice host; showed us around the grounds when we arrived and gave us info about trails nearby- super envious of his living situation and the lovely cabins that occupy this space :) will be booking future stays in his other cabins but the storybook cottage has an awesome back porch with a lovely view of the woods; very private and serene. We didn't use the bed in the attic because there wasn't much airflow in the space but the fold out couch gets you the same backyard view of the trees-the separate bathroom was ideal and made the cabin feel more spacious. Will definitely be coming back here!

  • Absolutely loved staying here! It was what we were looking for :) The place was clean and had everything we needed. Loved cooking in the kitchen with the beautiful view. The bed was so comfortable!! If you're looking to get away from the city, this is the place to be. Will come back again!

  • Cool little place. It was just right for my trip. Bringing a dog would be great. Pretty private, everyone kept to themselves. A lot of stars at night too.

  • We had a great night staying in Storybook Cottage! Definitely not a luxury hotel but so full of personality and quirks. It had everything we needed including a great little deck to catch some sun. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a different experience.

  • The Storybook cottage was great! It's cozy and unique, nestled in woods of Topanga mountain. We enjoyed our morning coffee sunning ourselves just above the treeline, with a gorgeous view of the wooded mountain. The place was spotless when we arrived. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, cutlery and appliances. It exceeded our expectations in every way. Though we never got a chance to meet in person, David was helpful, responding to our Airbnb messages. Great stay. Would recommend and will return if given the opportunity.

  • We totally dug David's place. Nice environment, friendly people, good view of the ridge line. The cottage itself was perfect for our needs, comfortable and a unique bit of work. Small fridge and enough kitchen tools to prepare simple foods. I felt my stay was too short and would definitely return again.

For those looking for a more traditional hotel/apartment style setup, this might not be for you - but give it a shot anyways. It's good to try new things.

    Thanks David.

  • A unique experience! A nice quiet haven in between Malibu and Santa Monica.

  • I loved this little cottage! I wouldn't recommend this particular cottage to those who don't like being outside after dark, since the restroom is detached from the sleeping loft. However, if you're not afraid of climbing a few stairs and enjoying nature, this is (email hidden) and a GREAT deal! It's cute, clean, and you immediately feel relaxed on this gorgeous property.
