Loch Haven is situated at the top of a very steep, windy mile-long road. Although it might be a bumpy ride, it's worth it once you see the views. We're the last visible house on the right, so you feel as if you have the entire mountainside to yourselves.
Other Things to Note
Since we live in the country, wildlife viewing is at its best! Depending on the time of year, you might see lizards scamper across the front porch or over the stones; quail trot across the road or snuggle up on the roof; magnificently woven webs that magically appear overnight; bizarre, harmless insects; mud-swallows nesting in the eaves, swirling overhead, or sunning themselves on the roof; deer feeding on our garden at dawn; wild turkeys mosey across the fields; gophers peeking out of their holes, and more!
Basic responsibility and respect. No smoking. Quiet home and surrounding area. Make yourself at home, but remember it is our home, too. Treat it as you would want guests to treat your own home. Reasonably clean up after yourselves and respect the privacy of our caretaker and other guests. We appreciate your consideration.
Excessive cleaning, anything over the normal room change-over, will be billed at $25/hour. Lost key fee is $50. Both will be taken from the security deposit.
Pets not only welcome but encouraged! You are welcome to bring your own pets to stay in your room with you. Just please pick up after than and ensure they don't damage the house or furniture. Your companion will have access to a small, fenced yard to do his or her business. Please pick up after your pet (including excessive pet hair) and dispose of the waste appropriately. Excessive cleaning rates reply if your pet leaves a mess, too. Large water dispenser available for them as well.
We respect your privacy, and we expect you to respect ours. If you need anything to make your stay more comfortable, however, please don't hesitate to text your needs or requests.
Check in is at 4pm. Check out is strictly by noon. If you need to arrive earlier that can possibly be arranged, but I'm afraid late departures aren't possible. When booking on the same day of your stay, please allow at least 4 hours notice before planned arrival and plan to arrive no later than 10pm.
Christine and Ethan were great hosts. They were very welcoming and laid back. The house was clean, spacious and cozy. The views from the house were absolutely incredible! We also enjoyed having their dog around, as he played very well with ours.
The pictures didn't lie. The view was absolutely gorgeous. We watched the sunset on the romantic balcony and saw the sun rise through our room!
That being said, the experience was a little strange. Aside from opening the door for us, the hosts did not acknowledge our presence. Though, we should heard it! Beginning at 4 am, the host was clunking around the kitchen and running up and down the stairs with their boxer dog. We didn't sleep a wink after that and finally decided to leave around 8 am. I went to shower, except the power had gone out and I didn't want to shower in the dark. Neither of the hosts thought to notify us.
The kitchen counter tops and handles was sticky and mucky from lack of cleaning and there were tons of spider webs in our room.
I texted them to let them know we were leaving and waited in hopes they would bid is goodbye, but no luck. 10 minutes later I got a "safe travels!" message.
Other than that, there is absolutely nothing to do, no where to shop for food unless you want a disgusting minimart and no nightlife.
It served as a relaxing night in, but I don't feel the need to ever visit Clear Lake again.
We had a wonderful short stay with Christine and Ethan. The views of the lake from their house are amazing. The room was both roomy and comfortable. Our hosts were both gracious and welcoming. We are looking forward to a return trip sometime soon!
My girlfriend and I were taking a road trip down from Canada to California. We didn't plan in advance where to stay and just decided to book AirBnBs in each city we stayed at along our drive down, so we were booking pretty last minute.
We booked this listing and Christine and Ethan accepted immediately which was fantastic. Unfortunately I didn't realize they owned a cat, which I'm allergic to. So we asked Christine and Ethan to have our booking reversed, which we did promptly after booking (within 30 minutes).
After that it took a little bit longer than expected for them to respond, but eventually we got the booking reversed and refunded which was great.
Christine and Ethan both made us feel very welcome. They have a beautiful home with a great view of Clearlake, the sunset was beautiful. The bedroom is very big with its own bathroom. Overall, we were very happy to stay there.
Christine and Ethan were great hosts. Very welcoming and made sure we were comfortable with our stay at all times. The house is on an amazing spot overlooking clear lake. We witnessed a beautiful sunset and later sat in the balcony sipping wine to the clear lake winds and star filled skies. We actually sneaked out late in the night to get a glimpse of the Milky way.
The house was very charming and we had the whole house for ourselves even though Christine and Ethan were home [ they made sure we had our privacy/space ]. The room was fairly large with private bathroom and a whole bunch of little amenities [ microwave, A/C, coffee etc etc ]. We also had a surprise little gift in our room waiting!
Clearlake is not a major tourist place. On the one hand its really peaceful but on the other there were not too many options for water sports. The few up on Lucerne/Lakeport were closed the weekend we were there for some reason ,so we didn't get to do much.
All in all a great stay and would definitely recommend the house/hosts if you are looking to spend sometime in Clearlake.
Thanks Christine and Ethan.
Our hosts kept in touch with us to welcome us. The view was incredible from each window. We were given a surprise gift by the hosts that I will treasure. The room was spacious as was our private bathroom. The tea selection was lovely.

I'm a writer and a professor, and my husband, Ethan, is a writer and a carpenter. We're both ethical vegetarians and love animals. Our little family consists of Buster, a friendly and cuddly boxer, and Shadow, the cat. Ethan and Christine tend to be quiet and polite, unless you get Christine talking, then you'll wonder if she'll ever stop! We sometimes travel to conventions and festivals to promote our books.
Jess, our caretaker, is also an ethical vegetarian, animal advocate & lover, artist, and all around lovely person.
Our entire home is available for your rental since we moved off-site for work, but our caretaker lives in an apartment beneath the house to attend to your needs. Your initial contact will be with Christine or Ethan, the owners, and they will be available for any questions or help throughout the reservation.
Our caretaker, Jess, will contact you on the day of your arrival for an ETA, warmly greet you, show you your room, and then give you your privacy. You likely won't see her again until your departure when she bids you farewell and safe travels. However, if you'd like to play a board game or have a philosophical conversation during your stay, I'm sure she could be persuaded quite easily.
We strive for all 5-star reviews, so please don't hesitate to contact either our caretaker or Christine should anything fall beneath your expectations, if you have questions, or if you need help. If there is ever a problem, please give us a chance to fix it.
Our life motto: 'Tis a gift to be simple. 'Tis a gift to be kind.
