The Space

The cottage is simple and cozy for one person or a couple. The cottage was a hunting cabin turned into a four season space. The four season porch is a nice space to have meals and look out the picture window to nature. The space is arranged to take advantage of nooks and crannies of a restored hunting cabin. The full fridge is on the four season porch and the shower is along a wall in the kitchen. The bathroom has a toilet and sink (sink is soon to be replaced, since getting a bad review for being cast iron and old). The space is sun filled and simple. There is no tv, but there's internet. The yard is a good spot to relax with a book or sun yourself.

Parking next to the cottage. Privacy for relaxing.

I will take the guests cues and interact if they want to. I am talkative and like to meet new people. Some guests want to have little interaction. ..that is fine too.

Our neighborhood is rural but only a few miles to most activities. We have lots of nature and wildlife to enjoy!

There is a full service store a few miles away to get provisions or subs/pizza. Oak Park has a nice walking track and seasonal events. The kitchenware has been enhanced on the suggestion of a recent visitor, for those times cooking at the cottage is your plan. The Monadnock Ledger Transcript newspaper has pages of entertainment each week.
SHOP, RELAX, STAY for business. Holidays are magical in Cozy Cottage!

Guest Access

There are 19 acres here to explore...a beautiful backyard and gardens next door with lettuces and herbs in the summer.

Interaction with Guests

I have met really nice people from all over the world through this site! Recently, I rented to two single women who had no profile on this site. I had cancelled reservations from them...then a booking from them. Due to their lousy review of my space and the fact that some people pick the wrong type of space for their needs...I will now reserve the right to decline to rent to people with no profile/record on this site. I am still upset that filthy was used in a review of my space. There is nothing filthy in the space, yet it blemishes my record.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is rural, yet on a major two lane road. The cottage is 4.5 miles to Peterborough. There is a park within walking distance and a State Park within walking distance, which has a nice beach and concession stand. IF you want to walk a few steps to stores, this is not your space. If you want to relax, bbq, read, and use the place as a jumping off spot to many activities, you will not be disappointed.

Getting around

There is no public transit.

Other Things to Note

The cottage is a simple space to relax.
The shower is in the kitchen/full fridge on porch.
People have fun here.
Please be certain our space meets your expectations by reading this thoroughly. I do not want anymore reviews stating that the fridge is on the porch....as if it's a problem.

  • I rarely leave negative feedback, but in this case I think it is necessary (especially since the feedback I had read prior to my stay was so different). This "cottage" was more like a summer camp, best for a young single person. It was like a studio apt/camp very musty and smelled like smoke- one large room with the shower in the "kitchen"- only the shower curtain separating creating the separation (no door). The bathroom sink was filthy. The futon in the "porch" was filthy, and worn. When we opened it up- it did not open all the way and created a leaning futon with a major bump in the middle. The refrigerator was noisy and was on the "porch" not in the kitchen. There was no place to eat- no table with chairs- there was a small table with a lamp on it.The bed (seen in the photo) had no lighting next to the bed, so you could not read a book. I am a professional (my colleague was rooming with me) and we were attending a profession training. I was incredibly disappointed- we left a day early.

  • This simple cottage is a very nice base for exploring this lovely New England area. It's a quick hop to downtown Peterborough, with its nice restaurants and parks. The cottage is set on a flower farm and when we were there, a field of goldenrod was a lovely view from the picture window. The cottage itself, though rustic and simply furnished, was perfect for us and our dog. The bed is comfortable, the wifi works well, and the place was clean and convenient. The kitchen equipment is pretty sparse, so bring your own if you plan to cook there, but we mainly wanted to boil water for tea, so the minimal set of plates and pans was no problem. We didn't see much of the host family, but they were pleasant and helpful when we were settling in.

About
I am friendly and have lived in Peterborough for over 19 years. I can help you find the fun things to do and see in The Monadnock Region. I have raised three children and in the growing season I split my time between Rhode Island and New Hampshire. I am the owner of Kathleen Bassett Gardens (see (website hidden)), a full service design and installation company. I love airbnb and have used it to stay in NYC. I love to cook, plant, design, and work politically towards clean food, air, and water.
