About This Listing
The cottage has a bedroom with a King sized, four poster bed with a delux McCroskey mattress. The room is large, 14' x 14" and the bathroom is shared by other guests with an outside bathroom door for them, should there be any. If you would like complete privacy, you can rent all of the rooms. There is also an option to rent the entire cottage with kitchen and living room.
Glen Ellen hilltop with views and stone paths on the 10 acre organic property with views of the San Pablo Bay. Patio and viewing platform with daffodils covering the hillsides in February and March, peonies blooming in May and June and and roses blooming through December. Olives are harvested in late fall and winter. Wine events and tastings thoughtout the summer and fall in Sonoma and in the Sonoma Valley and tastings continue through the winter. My site is private and quiet with beautiful surroundings. Pitch dark nights and great star viewing are possible in the country as there is no ambient light. The electricity is provided by solar panels hidden at one end of the 10 acres.
The downtown of Glen Ellen has several restaurants and an excellent market with good coffee drinks as well. It is one and one half miles from my home. Just a little further at Jack London Village, you will find YETI which is a Nepalese/Indian restaurant treasure. People drive from SF to eat there! Sonoma and Santa Rosa are both about 25 minutes away and Kenwood is 10 minutes with more restaurants and stores. I highly recommend the Kenwood Restaurant on Highway 12 and a Portuguese restaurant in Sonoma named LaSalette, off the Square in an alley on the movie theatre side.
A new amenity is now a small picnic kit and basket that can keep a bottle of wine cold, with a basket with wine glasses, implements, cheese knives and cutting board for cheeses to take with you to the patio or platform or around the area. All you need to provide is the food!
If you are interested in walking, my paths will provide nice up and down opportunities as will my road for half a mile down the hill. Mosquito netting that covers the armchairs on the platform, and will make evenings delightful there at dusk and after dark.
Nearby is a world famous Botanical garden, Quarryhill, at the intersection of the north end of Arnold Drive and Highway 12. Jack London Road in the center of Glen Ellen leads to Jack London Park and his Beauty Ranch which is now a state park run by private fund raising owing to California's budget problems.

Marde was out of town, but Paul was the perfect host in her place. He had coffee and croissants out for us every morning, and was around enough to answer any questions that we had (but not enough to be in our way).
The property is absolutely beautiful. We wish that we had built in more time to just relax outside on one of the patios and enjoy a bottle of wine. We would stay here again!
This is an amazing location, spectacular views from the back porch, nice stone deck and appealing path beyond that we did not explore.
The bedroom & bath were very pleasant. We only saw Marde in the morning as we arrived late; we had a very pleasant conversation while heating croissant for a late breakfast.
It was a bit disconcerting to share the bathroom (at this price) but no
collisions in the night. (It is just shared for the shower; others have own toilet.)
We can provide an unusual testimonial: the place is earthquake-proof as we experienced the American Canyon Quake of '14 here- safe and sound as the bed rocked and rolled.
Would come back, with intention to spend more daylight hours there.
4.5 - 5 stars
Great first airbnb experience! Perfect overnight location for our weekend getaway - quiet and beautiful on top of a knoll in Glen Ellen. So glad we tried it out!
Marde was a wonderful host and has a lovely home. We enjoyed the nice breeze on top of the mountain relaxing on her back patio and conversations with Marde. My sister and I felt very welcome and hope to return if we come to Glen Ellen in the future.
We really liked our stay at Marde's, the property is beautiful and the room is very comfortable. I think there was another guest staying in one of the barn rooms, but we didn't even notice they were around. You are staying in Marde's house, so it's not like staying in a hotel, but I would definitely come back. Also, Marde was very easy to communicate with.

About the Host, Marde
I moved to Glen Ellen, California, from Palo Alto in 2000 where I had lived earlier after graduating from Stanford University. I have three grown children and am the grandmother of two girls. Economics and Photography are the subjects I studied primarily, and now I live on a farm growing and distributing bulbs, tulips, daffodils, peonies etc. I am an avid traveler. I have been all over the world, primarily engaging in landscape photography and I have grown weary of hotels.
I am a traveling photographer, and my latest trips were a month in Brazil in 2010 and again in 2011 and a month in Turkey in 2012. It was in Turkey where I discovered the joys of Air BNB and listed my home on the site from Istanbul!
Two weeks after I returned from Turkey, I activated my listings. I have been renting my rooms for 2 months now and have not had a weekend without guests since I began. I think you will enjoy the stay, and I look forward to meeting you!
