If you're looking for a unbelievably gorgeous 360 view, 2 porches and a wood stove, in a cozy artistic setting...and you don't mind if everything is not "perfect", this artists' retreat is for YOU!

The space
The loft is where my husband and I live when we are not in LA. Although it is still a work in progress, it has the most incredible views of the property. While in Vermont this summer, we added a dishwasher and a washer and dryer(whoopee)! Last summer we were able to install a beautiful 5 burner gas stove-top (in a temporary table), and in December, David returned to Vermont to lay a beautiful oak wide plank floor with his son and two buddies. The result is fantastic! The great room is open, yet cozy, with a wood stove (and plenty of dry wood). While in Vermont, I paint in the loft and take advantage of the large tables. We recently put shades on many of the windows to give guests privacy if they want. We choose to let the light in, and watch the weather (something we miss in LA.) There is a large porch off of the great room, with a grill and small table. Enjoy dinner out on the porch, listening to the peepers (or watching fireflies).

We have also added a new futon couch to the great room, which opens into a queen bed. We have all the linens to accommodate 2 more guests comfortably, in a beautiful setting. There is a small bathroom, with sink and toilet, near the futon.

The bedroom has a king size bed, which has views of the valley below, over the rows of poplars, stretching to the Green Mountains. David did all the woodwork, beautiful cherry floors and trim. He finished trimming in the bedroom porch last summer. It's a wonderful thing to have a screen door opening to a porch that overlooks Nature, in all directions. This is where you'll want to watch the sunset!
We've yet to finish the master bathroom but spent the summer of 2018 working on it. David poured a concrete shower base, tiled around the tub/shower area, installed a new floor. He wanted a shower with a view, so he built a wall instead of a stall, cemented it into place and created a one-of-kind shower! Check our his stainless steel windowsill next to the claw foot tub. Some of the bathroom walls are still just sheet rock, where the cabinets will be built in.

The little free standing building on the right side of the loft, had been my studio, but is now a cottage that we also rent out. The building directly across from the loft, in the courtyard, was David's woodshop and is now used as an office, and very loose gallery space (that's where I store many of my paintings). Let me know if you're ever interested in seeing more of my work (all units are full of it....) If I'm not around, I can arrange for someone to let you in.

East Burke, Vermont, United States

You will not hear from the neighbors, although there are 3 units on this property. Burke mountain ski area and bike trails are 5 miles away, with a connector to the bike trails a few miles from the house. Smell the flowers, visit the cabin in the woods, hit targets with the bb gun, and make sure to have a camp fire.

Kirby is a scenic gem in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, bordered by Burke, Victory, Concord, St Johnsbury and Lyndon. A small, agricultural village the Artists' Loft is 5 miles from East Burke, a village well known for it's ski area and biking trails, and 4 miles from Lyndon, home of Lyndon State College.

If you are looking for the true Vermont experience, this place is for you. The property is located on top of 40 acres, with views of Vermont's green mountains in all directions and not a road in sight. Bike or drive 5 miles on a scenic dirt road to East Burke Village, surrounded by skiing and mountain biking trails. Or jump in your car and head out on the pavement to beautiful Lake Willoughby. If you're an artist, or just love beautiful places, there are plenty of gardens and stonewalls to sketch, paint or photograph, and some big trees to dream under.

My husband, and sculptor, David Tanych and I (Meryl Lebowitz) have been working on this property for the past 10 years. We designed and built all of the buildings, which include an art studio, woodworking shop, metal studio and house. I consider this compound our finest collaboration. We love having people connect with the property and encourage you to feel creative here! Bring cameras, sketch pads, notebooks...or just chill. It's fun to walk the trails and check out David's ponds at the bottom of our hill.

I am an artist and have been painting forever. I have a studio on the property. My husband, David Tanych, is a sculptor, and he also has a studio here. Together we created this compound from a bare piece of newly logged land. We constructed the buildings, built the stone walls and planted the gardens, creating what we believe, is heaven on earth. This is a a unique place, calm and private with incredible views. The Northeast Kingdom is REAL Vermont. Ski areas, golf courses, hikes, swimming, biking and kayaking are just a few of the activities that abound. if you want to have a true, old fashioned Vermont experience, this is the place for you!
