About this listing
This is a lovely, sunny, well-equipped, semi-quiet apartment in Park Slope available most days of the year. Includes dishwasher, laundry, wifi, cable tv, coffee maker, microwave, 100% cotton fresh towels and bed linens. All you need is a change of clothes, toiletries, and personal items. The bedrooms are not totally private: there is a divider wall, but no doors (although there are pocket doors that divide the two bedrooms from the rest of the apartment). There is a queen bed in one bedroom, a twin in the other, and a twin/daybed in the common room (which cannot be considered a private space at all).
In 2009 I moved with my family to a rural area north of the city, and when I am not visiting or working in Brooklyn I rent out my apartment. I've kept it furnished and equipped so that you have what you need for comfort and to live like a local. The apartment is located in charming, historical, and sometimes gritty Park Slope, what many people consider to be one of the most desirable neighborhoods in all of New York City, on 9th Street between 4th & 5th Avenue. In 2010 it was ranked #1 in New York by New York Magazine citing its quality schools, dining, nightlife, shopping, access to public transit, green space, quality housing, safety, and creative capital. It was named one of the "Greatest Neighborhoods in America" by the American Planning Association in 2007, "for its architectural and historical features and its diverse mix of residents and businesses, all of which are supported and preserved by its active and involved citizenry". In December 2006, Natural Home magazine named Park Slope one of America's ten best neighborhoods based on criteria including parks, green spaces and neighborhood gathering spaces; farmer’s markets and community gardens; public transportation and locally owned businesses; and environmental and social policy.
The apartment is 1/2 block from the M, R, and F trains, which bring you to lower Manhattan within 20 minutes, and central Manhattan in about 45 minutes. Walk up 9th Street 4-1/2 blocks and you’re in the 585-acre Prospect Park (Brooklyn's equivalent of Central Park), the huge Harmony Playground, and the renowned Bandshell for live, free performances all summer. Within one block of the apartment is a large well-stocked grocery store, several pharmacies and banks, and the post office. Continue down 5th Avenue and you’ll find dozens of highly regarded restaurants (like the famous Al Di La reviewed in the New York Times) as well as tons of ethnic places (Mexican, Indian, Moroccan, Thai, etc), boutiques, coffee shops (Martin's, Gorilla Coffee), patisseries (Blue Sky Bakery, Colson Patisserie), and bars. Up on 7th Avenue, you’ll find more of the same, plus larger stores like Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. This is truly a great location from which to access most of New York City's landmarks, features, and fun. Also, it borders Park Slope's historic, landmarked neighborhood, which provides charming local walks and explorations.
PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING: 1) a $200 REFUNDABLE deposit is required. This is to provide me with some insurance in case of breakage or theft; promptly returned when my apt is turned back to me in the same condition in which it was sublet. This deposit is a transaction which happens through Airbnb once a booking is made. 2) CLEANING FEE: There is a $60 cleaning fee for any reservation. This money goes directly to my wonderful cleaning lady, who ensures that you have clean bed and bath linens and a mop & scrub-sponge cleaned apartment. As of September 22, 2011, this transaction is made automatically through Airbnb when you book the apartment. Don't forget to check the "House Rules" as well please. Thank you!
Please note: no smoking, no pets, no parties. Check in is after 4pm, check out by 11am (depending on availability, we can sometimes make other arrangements to suit your schedule). Thanks!
Our second time in NYC, but our first stay in Brooklyn.
After a mix-up with keys/apartment at the start of our stay, this was balanced by the fact that we were given an extended stay on our last day as we had an evening Transatlantic flight to Europe.
The stairway to the apartment is narrow and a bit shaky when carrying heavy luggage. However, the apartment is lovely. It was perfect for our stay. Fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer etc. Aircon and ceiling fans for the hot summer were appreciated.
I would recommend this apartment for another stay.
Sandye met us at the apartment and handed us the keys. She was helpful in providing us the information around that area. The location was superb. Near to subway stations, many restaurants and supermarkets nearby. It is also a quiet and safe area. We did not encounter any problem while staying there.
The kitchen is well equipped and we enjoyed cooking some meals. Very convenient to have a dish washer. Also convenient to have washer and dryer for longer stay. There are also plenty of towels.
Please bear in mind this is a third floor apartment. It takes a bit of effort to take the luggages up. Otherwise, the daily climb up and down the stairs is a good form of exercise.
I would recommend this apartment to anyone who would like to experience staying in Park Slope.
Staying in Park Slope is an awesome experience. The apartment was clean and spacious. Sandye provided detailed instructions making it easy to check in and check out at my convenience and she also provided a wonderful guide of possible activities in NYC. Thanks for the wonderful experience Sandye!
Sandye, made everything so easy for us. Having never been to NY-she gave great insights to many things.
She also made it simple for us to get in and out with ease.
Sandye, was responsive and such a gem to find!
This apartment was the perfect place to stay for my myself, my mother, and a family friend joining us from London. Sandye was very helpful and accommodating, and the flat had everything we needed. The neighborhood felt safe and the apartment was conveniently located incredibly close to the subway, as well as walking distance to many restaurants and shops. I had surprised my mom with her own "Brooklyn brownstone" experience for her birthday weekend, and she absolutely loved it!
I stayed at Sandye's sublet for six nights with my two boys, 8 and 11. The setup was great for us. My older son slept in his own bed, and my younger guy slept with me in the larger bed. Any one of us could have slept on the comfy sofa if we had chosen to.
The apartment was exceptionally clean and also very well stocked in terms of dishes and cookware and towels and bedding and laundry detergent. Except for the usual New York sounds, the apartment was very quiet. I did feel bad when neighbors complained about noise we made by doing normal activities (perhaps abnormally loud boys?), but Sandye assured me it was OK, for which I was grateful.
The R and F trains were very close by, and we enjoyed being within walking distance of great food. My kids liked Dizzys and the Bagel Pub the best for breakfast. If you walk up to Dizzys on 9th, you might as well wander into Prospect Park.
Was a great trip and I'd happily stay again.
And--a note to anyone else out there who is nonreligious like me--the Jesus painting is no longer on the wall, so no worries.
Sandye é uma anfitriã muito prestativa e acessível. O apartamento tem localização privilegiada, muito limpo e arrumado, e totalmente funcional. Destaco a variedade de utensílios de cozinha e a qualidade da rede wifi.
Recomendo a estadia.

About the Host, Sandye
I sublet this apartment for my friend and her family who only use it part time, so the place is all yours! No pets, no smokers, no noise please- this is a quiet building used by a small group of family members and professionals, where everyone strives to be respectful of each other's space and tranquility.
