This is a lovely, sunny, well-equipped, semi-quiet apartment in Park Slope available most days of the year. Includes dishwasher, laundry, wifi, cable tv, coffee maker, microwave, 100% cotton fresh towels and bed linens. All you need is a change of clothes, toiletries, and personal items. The bedrooms are not totally private: there is a divider wall, but no doors (although there are pocket doors that divide the two bedrooms from the rest of the apartment). There is a queen bed in one bedroom, a twin in the other, and a twin/daybed in the common room (which cannot be considered a private space at all).
In 2009 I moved with my family to a rural area north of the city, and when I am not visiting or working in Brooklyn I rent out my apartment. I've kept it furnished and equipped so that you have what you need for comfort and to live like a local. The apartment is located in charming, historical, and sometimes gritty Park Slope, what many people consider to be one of the most desirable neighborhoods in all of New York City, on 9th Street between 4th & 5th Avenue. In 2010 it was ranked #1 in New York by New York Magazine citing its quality schools, dining, nightlife, shopping, access to public transit, green space, quality housing, safety, and creative capital. It was named one of the "Greatest Neighborhoods in America" by the American Planning Association in 2007, "for its architectural and historical features and its diverse mix of residents and businesses, all of which are supported and preserved by its active and involved citizenry". In December 2006, Natural Home magazine named Park Slope one of America's ten best neighborhoods based on criteria including parks, green spaces and neighborhood gathering spaces; farmer’s markets and community gardens; public transportation and locally owned businesses; and environmental and social policy.
The apartment is 1/2 block from the M, R, and F trains, which bring you to lower Manhattan within 20 minutes, and central Manhattan in about 45 minutes. Walk up 9th Street 4-1/2 blocks and you’re in the 585-acre Prospect Park (Brooklyn's equivalent of Central Park), the huge Harmony Playground, and the renowned Bandshell for live, free performances all summer. Within one block of the apartment is a large well-stocked grocery store, several pharmacies and banks, and the post office. Continue down 5th Avenue and you’ll find dozens of highly regarded restaurants (like the famous Al Di La reviewed in the New York Times) as well as tons of ethnic places (Mexican, Indian, Moroccan, Thai, etc), boutiques, coffee shops (Martin's, Gorilla Coffee), patisseries (Blue Sky Bakery, Colson Patisserie), and bars. Up on 7th Avenue, you’ll find more of the same, plus larger stores like Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. This is truly a great location from which to access most of New York City's landmarks, features, and fun. Also, it borders Park Slope's historic, landmarked neighborhood, which provides charming local walks and explorations.
PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING: 1) a $200 REFUNDABLE deposit is required. This deposit is a transaction which happens through Airbnb once a booking is made. 2) CLEANING FEE: There is a $60 cleaning fee for any reservation. This money goes directly to my wonderful cleaning lady, who ensures that you have clean bed and bath linens and a mop & scrub-sponge cleaned apartment. As of September 22, 2011, this transaction is made automatically through Airbnb when you book the apartment. Don't forget to check the "House Rules" as well please. Thank you!
Please note: no smoking, no pets, no parties. Check in is after 4pm, check out by 11am (depending on availability, we can sometimes make other arrangements to suit your schedule). Thanks!
We've returned home with very positive memories of the apartment we rented: it was well-equipped and very well situated, both in terms of the neighbourhood itself and also because it was so close to the R line. Sandye herself provided us with a lot of information, and she responded promptly - and in a most friendly manner - to communications by email or phone.
Myself and two friends stayed at the apartment and had a wonderful time exploring the neighborhood, walking around and feeling like locals. When our exploring was done, we came back to the apartment and felt right at home. Everything was very clean. The space was indeed, bright and airy as described. There were helpful notes placed here and there to guide us. The communication of the instructions was thorough and I was also able to find free parking! I hope we can stay here again in the future. Thanks, Sandye!
The apartment was lovely. It was extremely clean with a lot of great light. Very tastefully decorated, and the dresser full of toys was a real treat for the kids! The check-in went very smoothly, and Sandye kindly accommodated our request for an early check-in.
Nice apartment in Park Slope...very roomy and spacious and well kept. The logistics part was a bit confusing; we had to go pick up keys from a separate apartment and we weren't told in advance what the apartment number was (luckily the envelope with the keys had the apartment number). Then, we had a woman come up to our apartment 45 mins after we arrived, thinking she rented the same apartment we rented. She had the exact same paperwork we had -- looks like it's just copy/pasted to each AirBNB renter, with no apartment number. Turns out she rented #2, and we rented #3 -- the only way I knew this was by asking to see her key envelope. I believe the whole building is owned by same owner(s) and rented out simultaneously. So this was frustrating.
The apartment is great, the location is OK. Not in the heart of Park Slope, it feels more like south Slope. But I knew that before renting it. Close to restaurants/shops, etc and very close to the subway. The apartment comes stocked with towels and linens -- although we would have appreciated tissue in the bathroom (not to be confused with toilet paper) and maybe a full body length mirror (we had a wedding to attend and I wanted to see my dress). Overall it was a nice stay, just a few kinks.
I'm sorry you were confused about which apartment was yours. I clearly state in the email I sent you which apartment you were in, I stated " The apartment is on the 4th floor, the top floor.". There was also a number on the envelope I left for you with your keys and there is a corresponding number on the apartment door. The other guest also had it clearly stated in her email which apartment she was in. Hers said her apartment was on the 3rd floor, right under the top floor. There was also a number on her envelope and a corresponding number on the door of her apartment. I'm sorry you were confused and frustrated by the instructions and the inadvertent confusion of the other guest.
The welcoming email/letter is copied and pasted but is also personalized for each guest as needed. It seems foolish to type out the same letter each time but it is updated and corrected for each guest. The instructions on where to pick up the keys are also clearly stated, and I believed you understood them by your reply stating "we'll take a taxi to your apt. to get the keys when we arrive.". I also say to call me and if I am available I will meet you at the apartment with the keys. You declined to do this and said you would pick up the keys on your own.
The whole building does have one owner but it is not all rented out as you mention.
Thank-you for the suggestions to make the apartment more comfortable and functional. I will address them.
Hope the wedding was fun.
Lee loved your apartment. It was sunny, warm and well equipped with anything we could dream of. The location was great as it is very close to the f and r lines (2 min. Walk)
The only thing were the stairs to the apartment...but that's Brooklyn!!
Thank you very much
Waiting to come again!

Sandye's instructions were crystal clear and the apartment was beautiful, clean, and well-lit as advertised! We had a great stay!
Sandye was very helpful from the moment I got in touch with her. We were arriving late from the UK and Sandye was very accommodating and ensured we were able to collect the keys.
Sandye sent through a long list of excellent places to eat and things to do within walking distance - we ate at four of the suggestions and they were brilliant! We really enjoyed exploring Brooklyn and the location was perfect for us.
The apartment was great, very clean and homely. As this was our first experience of Airbnb, We felt exremely comfortable and relaxed. Would thoroughly recommend staying here!

I sublet this apartment for my friend and her family who only use it part time, so the place is all yours! No pets, no smokers, no noise please- this is a quiet building used by a small group of family members and professionals, where everyone strives to be respectful of each other's space and tranquility.
