Cool modern loft off Folsom street in South of Market (SOMA) neighborhood. We're minutes walk from Muni and BART -- close to all the action but far enough away for a good night's sleep after a long, hard day of sightseeing, conferences or work.
We're a gay couple, relocated from Minneapolis to San Francisco, and living in this terrific place since June 2012.
We think you'll love our place: It's a great, modern loft, filled with art we've collected on our travels around the world. It's stylish, comfortable, clean and easy to make yourself at home.
We LOVE this place, and we know you will too!
The entire downstairs is available for your use: your bedroom, your own bathroom, and shared living room, kitchen and dining area.
You are welcome to use the kitchen and to keep food in the refrigerator and freezer if needed. We have a drip coffee maker for your use, electric tea kettle, toaster oven, microwave, gas range and oven.
We provide high-speed wireless internet access at no additional charge.
Blanca is a sweet little dog. She barks when you enter and then she wants you to pet her!
Interaction with Guests
We go with the flow. Sometimes schedules are busy, guests are in town for a conference or other business and we may pass like ships in the nights -- our comings and goings may not overlap and we may barely see one another.
Other times, we'll all hang out in the evening or weekend. When things work out, we've all gone out for dinner, a night on the town, or a walk to the Farmers' market on the weekend.
Whatever works for everyone seems to be the best guide.
Everything is easily accessible: restaurants, museums, waterfront, shopping -- plus so much more this amazing city has to offer. We're just a short walk to Moscone Center, Union Square, the Embarcadero, Chinatown, North Beach, and all the nightlife of SoMa -- and just a slightly longer walk or quick light rail ride to AT&T Park.
We're near enough to everything that it's easy to get around; but we're a bit tucked away on a small street, so it's easier to find parking, and a nice refuge at the end of a long day.
San Francisco has the best food in the world, and we've got plenty of places to grab breakfast, lunch or dinner within just a block or two. Let us give you a recommendation to suit your tastes, or explore our local favorites: (website hidden)
We're only minutes walk from Muni, BART, and CalTrain; and we're easily freeway-accessible if you're driving. (Parking is challenging so public transport is the way to go!)
Other Things to Note
We recently got a 19 pound dog, rescued from a shelter. She's a Markiesje -- bred as "a companion dog for Dutch ladies of noble birth" in the eighteenth century -- very gentle and perfectly happy with as much or as little attention as you'd like to give.
The entire downstairs is available for your use. Upstairs is for the owners only.
We're okay with comings and goings at any hour, but please enter quietly if you're returning after 10pm on Sun - Thu or after midnight on Fri-Sat.
The room accommodates two. Please let us know in advance if you'll be staying with a guest. There will be a $14 charge/night. For insurance reasons we cannot accommodate unexpected guests.
No smoking anywhere in the building. You may smoke outdoors at least 20 feet from the building entrance, preferably across the street out of respect for first floor residents whose windows may be open.
On your first day, please arrive before 10PM. If you are coming from the airport a flight arriving by 8:30PM should allow ample time.
Nils and Lance have a lovely home and it felt very nice and welcoming. It is nicely decorated and they are very friendly. So is their dog! I would happily stay there again.
This is a great place! Clean, tidy and really nice and cozy. Everything went smoothly.
I just can repeat what most of the other guests have already said: It is a very good choice for a stay in San Francisco. I was there on a very busy business trip and didn't have much time to meet with Nils (Lance was out of town), but occasionally we did and he made me feel welcome, offering me a tea, dates, and giving me great recommendations for my one idle day. Blanca is a cute little dog, loves to snuggle and knows how to behave. She welcomes "her" guests nicely and takes advantage of any opportunity to play. However, she also leaves you alone when needed.
Nils greeted and made us feel very welcomed when we arrived, later than planned due to the usual air travel nonsense. The space is smaller than we expected, but very cozy and comfortable. They do have a dog, but it is wonderful and would snuggle with us when we were reading or resting in the living room. We were welcome to use the kitchen, but didn't really need to much. We never felt unsafe in the neighborhood. Best of all is the proximity to the Moscone Center, so it you are attending a conference or trade show, the location is perfect.
I felt right at home from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. Nils was a perfect host (Lance was out of town). I had everything I needed to be comfortable. The apartment was beautifully decorated, I had my own bathroom, the bed was very comfortable, and the dog Blanca reminded me of home. By the end of my five day visit, I felt that I had made new friends. I hope that Nils and Lance will visit our family whenever they're in upsate New York! In summary, this is the most comfortable lodging, in every way, that I have ever experienced while traveling.
I've stayed at Lance and Nils' once before and this experience was similar. A very comfortable and clean apartment with a spacious bedroom and use of a private bathroom. The apartment and building are very quiet. And of course, Lance and Nils are friendly and helpful. The location is a few blocks off Mission and walking distance to Embarcadero.
Great apartment, beautifully decorated. Lance and Nils made me feel very welcome. Blanka, the dog, is adorable and very friendly. Bed is comfortable.
Construction in the area may disturb the light sleepers after 7AM, but other than that, apartment is very well situated.
We are experienced global travelers, from the height of the world's luxury to much more modest village accommodations in places like India and Africa. We are easygoing, adaptable, and eager to try new things.
One of the things we enjoy most about B&Bs and private homes is the opportunity to get to know people and to connect with the real local scene. It's so much more authentic than staying in some sanitized corporate hotel chain where everything is exactly the same as it is in every other city everywhere else in the world. Why travel the world if every place you stay feels exactly like the Marriott hotel in Cincinnati?
We will be happy to welcome you into our home.
