Interaction with Guests

We look forward to meeting you and are here to welcome you and help where we can. We mainly use separate areas of the house so we offer our guests as much privacy as possible. We do however get on with our normal activities of daily living which includes cleaning, maintenance and gardening.

We love living here alongside the river. It’s a very scenic area with great river walks and a few minutes from Fremantle.

The Neighborhood

FREMANTLE IS A VERY POPULAR AREA WITH MANY INTERESTING PLACES AND STREETS LINED WITH ALFRESCO CAFES AND RESTAURANTS.
We are next to the river, beach and Fremantle. Perth City Centre is a short (30 min) bus &/or train trip away . So you have the best of both within easy reach. You can enjoy the quirky atmosphere of Fremantle, take long riverside walks or go to the beach 5 mins away by car.
FREMANTLE‚ known as 'Freo'‚ is Perth's port and maritime playground on the mouth of the Swan River located just a few minutes (by car) and 20 mins from Perth the capital . It (email hidden)ly street life‚ a thriving café culture (locally known as the cappuccino strip) and an alternative arts scene amidst the workings of a fully functional port. There is a thriving university life with Notre Dame University occupying many of the heritage buildings in central Fremantle.

There are popular bars, café's, and restaurants close by the house on the water front along with 2 Yacht Clubs. Sometimes if you are lucky YOU CAN SEE DOLPHINS when walking along the river side. Swans, ducks and pelicans are a regular feature of the river scape along with Yachts and boats etc. There is also Tennis Courts just down the road.

Brochures and information on many activities/timetables are available in the house.

Getting around

TRANSPORT near the house- There is a bus service to Fremantle or Perth city centre that runs during the day (3 min walk with some limits to its timetable) or another that runs late into the night 1.3 km (12 mins walk). Walking into Fremantle is a 40 min walk along the river.

TRANSPORT From Airport. There is now a bus from the airport which requires 1 bus transfer. Ask me how?
There is also a shuttle service that operates to and from Fremantle that will DROP AND PICK UP AT THE DOOR (approx. $40 per couple). A Taxi from the airport is approximately $50

  • I got in at 8pm after my flight was delayed, finding it an easy drive from the airport. Joolz & Ric were there to meet me outside the house when I arrived. Everything was ready for me and the hosts gave me an introduction to everything that I needed to know about the house and also about the local area. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. It was pretty much like a hotel room. I was given a key to the window and the outside door. I appreciated the bottles of cold water in the fridge, that made a big difference to me. The bathroom is also well appointed and very spacious. Everything that you need is here. The kitchen facilities provided everything that I needed. Thanks to my very kind hosts who made me feel very much at home. This is my first airbnb experience, and it was very positive. Staying with friendly people makes travel much better! I left at about 7am and Ric came out to see me off.

  • We had ample space in our bedroom and the guest area in their
lovely home in a very upscale neighbourhood. Julie was helpful with directions for our adventures in the area. The train station was 4 km away with bus service a bit infrequent over the holidays. We were grateful to Ric for a few rides into Freemantle.
We had a separate area for our meal prep but without full kitchen
access, meals were quite simple. The BBQ & garden area were
    great.

  • Julie and Ric are very friendly, helpful and very welcoming hosts. The house is large and spacious and there is plenty of shade in the garden from the sun if you want it. The accommodation is very clean and well equipped. Location is perfect to both explore Freemantle and onto Perth on the train.
We are part way through our second stay with Julie whilst in Australia and we are really enjoying the experience.
Thank you for sharing your home with us.

  • Julie and Ric were great hosts. Would definitely recommend to fellow travellers.

    October 2013
  • We stayed with Julie and Ric for 3 nights. We didn't have great weather for our stay but Julie was kind enough to come and find us as the bus stop without us asking! Julie has a lovely house, the room was great. In Julie's house everything has a specific place and has to be done a certain way. If you follow Julie's house rules and do things the way she tells you in her home will be fine. We were mostly out during the days exploring. There is a lovely walk by the river from the house to town. Main kitchen facilities are in Julie and Rics living space and is the stove tops only not oven. Public transport links are ok by bus but after 6ish the bus drops quite a long walk away so make sure you know the route particularly if dark. Thank you very much for having us we had a great time in freo (it's a lovely place!)

    Response from Joolz & Ric:

Thanks Elaine it is great when someone understands that it is not a hostel and recognises that we make effort to keep the house clean and organised for everyone. Yes all things you suggest are clearly mentioned in the listing and it’s hard to understand why some people don’t bother to read it. The kitchen is in between both our living area and guest area. We provide, kettle, toaster, microwave with grill, sandwich maker, separate crockery/cutlery etc. on a separate kitchen bench area in the lounge/dining area to give more privacy and independence. We think this offers a more serene, private and pleasant environment than a hostel for less cost.

  • Julie and Ric's beautiful, spacious home is spotless and immaculate. Its close location to the Swan River and Fremantle was ideal for my visit. The bedroom was well laid out and the bed nice and comfy. Julie and Ric were approachable but respectful of my privacy which was really appreciated. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.

  • This was a perfect find, private, clean and Julie was very welcoming.

  • Nice area, room and environment. Good value for money. Felt a little over whelmed / instantly educated by house rules, limitations and simply being in the way!!! Very business like. Great location and very safe area. Nice place to have a bed but limited interaction.

    Response from Joolz & Ric:

Mac was here 2 nights/1 day. He was greeted and we chatted about a number of things before went off for bike ride. Hosts are just people sharing their home and we try to be friendly, polite, respectful and unobtrusive. We also have our own lives (house work, family, jobs).
It is our practice to orientate people when they arrive… if he thinks that is rules or limitations than I am the devil if I do and the devil if I don’t. It is a large house and we like guests to be able to find their way around (lights, keys/locking, bathroom fan, storing food etc. etc. ‘Limitations;’ we maintain some of the house for private use. Indicating a folder where more information is keep is hardly instant edification.

  • Julie and Ric were the most hospitable hosts I've met thus far. The room was very well laid out with necessities, brochures and other (email hidden)e bed was extremely comfortable and the shared toilet was immaculate. Needless to say, the stay was a pleasant experience for my girlfriend and I. Whilst Julie and Ric were friendly and approachable, we were given more than enough personal space and privacy. Ric even gave us a lift to the Fremantle city as it was pouring on the morning of our departure. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a place to stay in Fremantle/Perth!

About
AS HOSTS: Hi, we are a down to earth couple that have been lucky to host some really lovely people over a few years. We are generally pretty quiet and a little on the shy side and don’t like to be intrusive. We therefore tend to give our guests space but we are available to chat should you wish and we try to help out where we can and want our guests to be comfortable and enjoy their stay with us. We generally use separate parts of the house however there is some areas of overlap. Our aim is to provide a little bit of separation to provide more privacy than would otherwise be possible in a share situation. We like to be at home, generally pottering around (renovating and gardening). AS GUESTS: We’ve travelled a bit and stayed in Airbnb homes in US, Spain and here in OZ, so we know what it is like to stay with new people (especially the first time). We enjoy the adventure of finding our way around, new things, different cultures and fitting in and ‘doing’ as local people do. As guests we are very sensitive, respectful and clean guests that are appreciative that you have allowed us to share your home. We hope to get the opportunity to meet you and make friends on our travels. OUR LISTINGS ARE: Garden vu room- https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/54877 Cosy room- https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/92945 river vu room - https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/44914 We would really appreciate it if you fill in a bit of your Airbnb profile with picture...so we can put a face to the people who are interested in staying with us... Have a great stay in the sunny Fremantle and Perth, we hope to have the pleasure to meet you and help you enjoy your stay.
