Greetings adventurous travelers!
Well, our Winter Guest Tent (see pic, it's the red and grey one) is now up for the hardy traveler looking for a bargain accommodation. It's a 4-season tent, officially 3-person, 48" center height, 6' at the widest point, 7' at the longest.
It's furnished with a single airbed, which takes up the majority of the space, leaving room for a modest amount of gear, but there's plenty of space inside our house for your things that you don't need to have in the tent with you. There's warm and comfy bedding, a padded rug on the floor, wi-fi, and a battery lantern. Towels are provided. The tent is situated in the back of our lovely and quiet garden, tucked into a private corner.
It can get wet and chilly here in the winter (tent is, of course, thoroughly waterproof), so check average weather temperatures for the area before booking to make sure that you're up for the experience. Remember to bring long johns for sleeping! The other consideration to be aware of is that to enter this tent through the vestibule, it is necessary to crouch pretty low, so be sure you're spry.
If you’re going to be passing through Berkeley, and if you’re traveling relatively light, and if you’re friendly and respectful, and if you enjoy the outdoors, please write and tell me something about yourself and your situation. This rental is limited to one person, as our bathroom simply can’t handle 2 more people.
BTW- I offer a $5. rebate if you make up your own bed when you arrive, just let me know ahead of time.
You will have full use of the house and garden, shared with 2-3 interesting, friendly, open-minded, and independent people of varying ages. There is a washer and dryer available for a small fee, and a bicycle is available to rent.
I enjoy hosting, am always happy to answer questions, and appreciate it when a guest chooses to share some of themselves, but I also appreciate shy people as long as they are friendly and communicative. In the summer we host an occasional barbecue for current and past guests, and in the winter we may gather and play cards, but I do expect a guest to be independent and to plan to entertain themselves.
Our neighborhood, composed of vintage houses from varying eras, is safe and quiet. The location is great- just a block to BART and buses, and easy walking distance to the Monterey Market shopping area, University Avenue, and several cafes.
The North Berkeley BART station is literally one block from our house. It's about a 25 minute walk (or 5 minute BART ride) to downtown Berkeley and the university, and BARTing to San Francisco takes about 30 minutes. We're in the Berkeley "flatlands", so walking around is easy, and the Ohlone Greenway, an extended bike/pedestrian path, crosses our block.
My first night in the tent, I endured a thunderstorm which was fantastic, stayed dry and toasty. I felt safe and very private the whole time. Cece offers up her cozy home also, as well as a beautiful garden to hang out and work from. Great location in North berkeley makes this a great deal for visiting Berkeley. There are no surprises, it's a tent with a comfy air bed but by no means a rugged camping experience, unless you choose to make it one.
I had the misfortune of arriving when it was raining all day but surprisingly, the tent kept dry on the inside! It was cold but Cece provided enough blankets to keep me comfy. It as definitely a unique experience and a good deal. The BART station is a block away and you'd have no trouble finding your way around to SF. You have a good amount of privacy, Cece was nice to have a chat with although I didn't get a lot of chances to do so since I was always out and about., and she has the loveliest backyard. I definitely recommend this place for a unique Airbnb experience.
I had a really nice stay in the winter tent in Cece's garden. Cece is very friendly, I felt at home at her house and she gave some great tips about things to visit.
I stayed in the spacious winter tent during the nights and in Cece's cozy house during the day. Although I visited in December, I never felt cold in the tent. It is equipped with a lot of blankets and a comfy airmattress. Dressed appropriately in addition noone should ever feel cold. It was really pleasant being around Cece. I enjoyed the conversations!
The tent in Cece's backyard is roomy (for one person), and comfortable. The air mattress is thick, lots of blankets, even 2 electric lanterns. With access to the entire house, except the bedrooms, there wasn't a thing I had to do without.
I can heartily recommend the backyard tent in Berkeley. May well be the best deal in town!
Cece is a great host! She was welcoming from the moment I arrived, and was quick to answer any questions or requests I had regarding my stay. If you need a place to stay in Berkeley and are ready to meet some cool, interesting people in the process, then go ahead and book your stay here!
I found my quiet spot in Berkeley! Cece has a very relaxing vibe in and around her home. The tent was in a nice private corner of the fenced in yard, so I felt like I had plenty of space. If the tent was open for another week, I would have booked it without question. I felt very welcomed throughout my whole stay.
What a fantastic place to spend a couple of weeks! Easily connected to the heart of Berkeley, yet you get to sleep out in the fresh air. Cece was an amazing host - kind, relaxed and generous. I used this tent as a base camp for apartment hunting, and Cece was quick to offer her sage advice on various neighborhoods. A very highly recommended tent.
I had a great time in SF staying at Ceces place. Cece was very welcoming. The place was clean and need. Wearing Long Johns the tent was nice and warm! Downtown SF is easily acceced with the BART only minutes from the house. I would recommend it to anyone traveling budget and is up for a different experience. I would go back!
The tent was really comfortable and even though I was there in October I was still able to stay plenty warm! It's really convenient to get to the BART station and walk to get food and groceries. Cece was really helpful and so kind, I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone!
