About This Listing
Enjoy a comfy vacation in our cosy & colorful guest room, including your very own bathroom with full amenities.
We are close to Gmunden's city center, a scenic town on a beautiful lake in the mountains in the heart of Austria.
We are a young international family who lives close to downtown Gmunden - a beautiful city in the Austrian Salzkammergut region.
Our house is colorful and quirky (so are we), we have a nice little garden, free internet access and free parking spots nearby.
Families are more than welcome to stay.
We offer a pretty guest room including a queen size bed, a couch, and a baby bed, if necessary. Guests have their own bathroom incl. amenities as well.
Interaction with Guests
We love having people over and sharing our beautiful place. However, we are hosts, no entertainers: we will gladly give you advise on where to go and what to do, but under normal circumstances we will not have time to hang out or show you round.
We have two toddlers; they are well-mannered and fluent in German and English, but still kids, which means you should be fine with little people running around.
Within a ten minute walk you can access the city center, the river, lake Traunsee, and the tram station (with access to the train station); the area also offers various hills and mountains for hiking and skiing.
Gmunden is located in the heart of Austria and you can easily tour Austria from here. The train connections to the top places are as good as the car route via the A1.
Distances: Salzburg, Linz or Hallstatt (1 hour),
Vienna (2 hours),
Innsbruck, Graz (3-4 hours)
We are a perfect stop between Salzburg and Vienna. If you get the chance, though, you should definitely check out Gmunden's surroundings and Hallstatt (No. 2 of Austria's top tourist attractions).
Gmunden is well connected, and trains from any direction come and go once an hour.
The tram schedule is linked to the train's, its station is in the city center (and a fifteen minute walk from our house).
***Currently there is a construction site at the train station, wherefore we recommend a taxi to our house.***
During the week there are local buses, and in the peek season in the summer, there are extra hiking buses to the mountains on the lake.
***For your individual schedule please check (website hidden) Maps or the Austrian public transport ÖBB.***
Other Things to Note
Due to our full-time jobs and the high guest frequency our check-in/check-out is rather strict. However, we are more flexible on weekends and when we are not fully booked: therefore you are more than welcome to double-check with us any time!
We are easy going and trying to make you feel as at home as possible. We will hand you a key and you are most certainly free to come and go as you please. Since one of our cars is parked in a garage nearby, you are more than welcome to park in front of the house.
We usually occupy the kitchen from 7 to 8 am and 6.30 to 7.30 pm, and due to our jobs and the kids' routine we are not so flexible on that.
We stayed only 1 night at Monika's place. The day we arrived Gmunden, It was rainy all day and we were very tierd from our trip. but Thanks to Monika and her family's warm welcome, we could have very nice night there.
The room is lovely as pictured and has a comfy bed.
Recommend to stay in beautiful quiet lakeside town!
The room is beautiful and the neighborhood is quiet and convenient. Gmunden is a lovely lakeside town. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the stay.
What can I say. Twas Lake Traunsee and the old legend of the monster that got me excited to go to Gmunden. Its an extremely peaceful place to spend some quality time away from the rushhour of lives. One can sit by the lake and just pass time watching the mist, the clouds, the swans, I mean its beautiful. Although I will admit that the travel distance is bit killing. Since this was our last leg of the journey we hoped to pack in as much as possible. But we nearly spent half a day reaching at Gmunden. We travelled from Innsbruck to Attnang Pucheim to Gmunden to Monikas place and that left us no energy and time to go anywhere else. What looked like what was once nicely done room seemed a bit cluttered with lot of things around there. Other than that it was ok. Did not meet the hosts the first day, we met them only the second night of our stay.
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We recommend our guests to always check with the Austrian public transport ÖBB (or their GPS) to find out their individual schedule; however I will try to communicate this even better in the future.
It is a great pity that you perceived our guest room cluttered: over the past years we have received some lovely gifts from even lovelier guests, and we cherish them by putting them on display.
Thank you very much for hosting us. We had a great stay in Gmunden!
Monika je velmi přátelská. Náš pokoj byl velmi čistý a vše proběhlo podle našich očekávání. Toto ubytování můžeme všem vřele doporučit.
It was great time! Thanks a lot for friendly and pleasant environment, and a really lovely room. You know, we like Gmunden more, than Hallstatt, because It's a very amazing city with beautiful lake and mountains, and without crowd of tourists.
Also we hiked (may be climbed) on the top of Katzenstein, after that our clothes was so dirty and Monica gave to use the laundry, it was so useful!
About the Host, Monika
I have always loved to travel, and even with our two toddlers we keep going as much as possible. However, since family is holding back a little, I love having people over and listen to their stories .. and keep the travelling spark alive * .
