This review is based on constructive criticism, not a personal attack (my husband and I travel world wide and have stayed in a variety of accommodations). The host Elisabetha, we found on arrival to be helpful and attentive but we booked and paid for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment because this is what we wanted (as we were 3 adults). Both bathrooms have recently undergone renovations but unfortunately the second (larger) bathroom was incomplete... Leaving only the toilet useable. The functional one was only that... a very tight space consisting on shower, toilet, hand basin and washing machine, barely room to wipe yourself out of the shower. I would have liked to be advised via email prior to arriving about the bathroom situation.
The apartment itself it quite large, very roomy and good natural light, good location to the old walled city if you don't want to stay in the old area itself, but bare in mind the apartment is within a local residential complex therefore it is EXTREMELY noisy, doors slamming continuously, babies crying - fine it you don't like sleep, we were there during the Christmas holiday period so noise was expected but the continual main door slamming was too much and the apartment is on the 4th floor that is how much the noise carried.
We also had issues with the electricity cutting out... Apparently you can't use the dishwasher at the same time as the hot water system, this might be something to advise guests upon arrival instead of losing power in the evening, having to find a torch in the dark and locate the switchboard. The second time it happen we were unable to reset ourselves and had to contact the host - the main board in the basement needed to be reset - it was at this time she told us not to use the two appliances at the same time..
On a final note the kitchen utensils were all cheap, the cutlery not much better then plastic, the bath towels if they were that - over sized tea towels.
We if fact cut short our stay and left a day earlier.
We loved staying in this apartment and it's proximity to the centre of the city. It was comfortable and Elisabetta left thoughtful personal touches. We appreciated her assistance with parking. Just be careful you don't turn the hot water off (in the shower/ laundry) by accident like we did!! Thanks for a great stay.
Elisabetta was a great host, welcoming us with a tour not only for the apartment, but also was in the neighbourhood. helping us was the groceries and house keeping stuff for our weeklong stay.
Apatment was cozy and confortable, sunny and well ventilated. Location is very good and Elisabetta made us fell at home. Apartment is in a quiet street, but not far from center, just some steps, which helps one keep in good shape.
We stayed in 3 persons and all of us just loved the place and used it as a base for exploring Umbria and Toscana.
We enjoyed a short stay in Elisabetta's spacious apartment that was located just a short walk to town and the mini metro, and what a beautiful town it was! We especially loved coming 'home' and enjoying a wine on the private balcony with magnificent views. The apartment was lovely, plenty of room, hot water and good WiFi. Elisabetta was a great host, helped locate some lost luggage and provided some essential supplies in the apartment. Look forward to our next visit and staying there again.
Many thanks Elisabetta for your friendship & hospitality! Yolande & Keith (Australia)
In our opinion this apartment does not meet the standards of an apartment in these days.
It is all very out of date and in bad shape. Especially the kitchen was. Cooking in the kitchen was not that easy!! After one day we decided not to cook any more.
The shower cabinet is very small. Normal showering was therefore difficult.
The English of the host is very poor, unlike what is written on the Airbnb website.
(Her writing in English, on the other hand, is good.)
We gave one star because the apartment is spacious with 2 big sleeping rooms. It has a nice balcony with a nice view on the hills behind the houses. The environment is quiet.
• In the kitchen the drainer board was partly rusty. As was the brim of the sink.
• Not all things in the kitchen were clean.
• The frying pans were actually not usable. One of it had a “wavy” bottom.
• The kitchen inventory was meager: very out dated and incomplete. E.g. no beer and wine glasses, no water cooker or kettle, old unusable dish washer because e of a too short wire..
• There was no working space in the kitchen. Only a sink, an oven and a dish washer.
• The shower cabinet was very small. One of us had claustrophobic feelings and decided not to use the shower. On top of the cabinet was a boiler.
• The host lady asked us not to warm the boiler water when we did not use it because of the high electricity prices in Italy. First we did as asked. Stupid!!! Never heard of Legionnaires disease?? Showering after arrival was not possible. Only the next day we could use the boiler because only then the temperature was about 40 0C.
(But it has to be 60 0C for health reasons.)
• The sofas were not in good shape. They were too soft to sit in comfortably. They are old and actually not good usable.
• There are many electricity switches in the house, a lot of them out of order.
What a disappointment and how insincere jan and his wife have been! Is it possible that only after four days (of rain, it says a lot) they have suddenly realised that my house had all those shortcomings? Let's start with the shower: first, there were two of them, one of normal dimensions (But probably unfit to satisfy who suffers from claustrophobia) and another open, placed in a bathtub. And what about hot water at 60°? For God's sake, do you want to get burnt to the bone while showering? Another point. Is it so big a shortcoming that in a house there are no beer glasses? Surely you can drink from another glass. And since when is a soft sofa uncomfortable? I'd say the opposite, as would the majority of people. The dishwasher too old? It was perfectly functioning and the wire wasn't short, you only had to stick it into the socket. Don't even get me started on the legionella, so stupid and outrageous a claim as you'll ever hear, I'm not even going to reply to this one! Finally, to get a fairer idea about the quality you can find at my place, you can always read what Bruce, an american professor, says about the 49 days he spent here before jan and his wife.
We, a family of three from the USA, stayed in Elisabetta's beautiful apartment for six weeks in April/May 2013, and highly recommend her place to any one considering an extended stay in Perugia. Her place is clean, comfortable, and well-adorned. It is also conveniently located with just a 10-minute walk downhill to the Conad grocery store, or a 10-minute walk uphill to the main piazza and shopping district. We have many fond memories of our stay in Perugia, but the one that will probably stay with us the longest is sitting out on the apartment's very large balcony in the evenings watching the sun set over the hills and the swallows and swifts doing their nightly flyovers.
The apartment itself is well-worth the stay, but add Elisabetta's warn hospitality to the equation and staying at Elisabetta's place becomes an obvious choice. We intend to go back to Perugia in the future, and we will undoubtedly hope to be able to stay at Elisabetta's place again. There is no better recommendation than that.
Thanks so much for everything, Elisabetta! We really appreciate all that you did for us during our stay!
