We love Mark's house! This was our family's second stay here (2 adults and 2 kids - ages 6 and 8) and coming back did not disappoint. The house is very comfortable, beautiful and set in a wonderfully relaxing rain forest. We love the proximity to Volcano National Park, especially to drive into the park at night to see Kilauea's lava and glow. It is also very easy to get to Hilo and other beaches on that side of the island. The house is spacious and a perfect base camp for exploring the Volcano/Hilo side of Hawaii. We look forward to staying again in the future and recommending it to friends and family travelling to Hawaii!

Everything was perfect, the place is amazing, just like in the photos or even better! You can really feel the volcano experience since the place is just 4 minutes from the volcano national park.

Spectacular house in the middle of the rainforest, extremely close to the Volcano National Park. Perfect place to rest after long hikes. Close to the few restaurants in the area. Make sure you shop for food before you arrive to the town! A couple of general stores have the very basics. Get groceries from Hilo or Kona before you head over.

This is a comfortable spot located in an incredibly convenient location to the entrance of the Volcano National Park. I highly recommend getting this Airbnb vs. doing the drive all the way from Kona to visit the volcano. It's a long drive and it was great to be able to pop back and forth into the park for a couple days and have a nice relaxing place to stay. We ate at the Thai place Mark recommended and it's delish. The place has beautiful woodwork, comfortable beds and nice bathrooms. The kitchen was well equipped. Mark was very attentive to any needs. We did have a few minor hiccups with the house being double booked and a few things not working properly when we arrived but Mark was quick to remedy the situation (otherwise I would give this spot 5 stars). Thanks Mark!

This is a wonderful house in the rain forest, beautifully built and kept. Convenient to Volcano National Park and the surroundings. Near enough major shopping to be good for all, and very close to shopping for necessities.

Perfection in Volcano! The house was just amazing for our group of 8 and looks exactly like the pictures. It was easy to find and only 40 minutes from Hilo airport. House was immaculately clean upon arrival and had everything we needed, even laundry detergent. I highly recommend this secluded gem for exploring Volcano National Park and all along the south shore from Hilo to South Point.

We could not have been happier with our stay at Hale 'Apapane in Volcano! The house was easy to find and Mark was great about communicating with us prior to our arrival. Volcano does get chilly at night so we definitely used and appreciated the wood burning stove in the kitchen (which was stocked with all the firewood we needed). Also, we really enjoyed the beautiful yard including the hot tub, swing and basketball ball hoop in the carport. Overall Hale 'Apapane was exactly what we were hoping for and more. A cozy home steps from the entrance to Volcano National Park that was warm and inviting to return to at the end of a long day.

Nice guy, serial technology entrepreneur, occasional visitor to the big island, where by brother lives. My brother built both of my Volcano homes and lived there for many years.
