About This Listing
Cross the bridge through the jungle-like garden, climb the broad stairs to the wraparound veranda and find your king room with AC, ceiling fans, hot water, screened windows. Highly rated BnB on a small park just 4 blocks from the main square. Welcome
If you are looking to experience the real Yucatan, the people, the culture, the language and the food, Casa Hamaca Guesthouse is for you. We have eight rooms in total. Most rooms accommodate 2 adults in a king bed. But all have a Mayan hammock for a 3rd guest. Other rooms hold up to five people in comfort. All rooms are superior and have AC, ceiling fans, a wall-sized original Mayan themed mural, private bath with lots of hot water, glass-blocked stall shower, tile floors, Talevera sinks, a sitting area and wireless internet access. There is a small plunge pool, beautiful jungle-like gardens and a Mayan palapa hut for massages (at additional cost). Secure off-street parking. Near the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, and Cobá. Valladolid was founded by the Spanish in 1543 on the ruins of the old Mayan city of Zaci. Both cultures now peacefully co-exist. A full breakfast is included: granola & yoghurt, fresh fruit plate, sweet rolls, fresh juice, coffee and tea and the breakfast entée of the day... huevos ranchero, chilaquilas, tamales or a chef's surprise. If you are guest on a Sunday morning, breakfast is in the municipal market. Neither Valladolid nor Casa Hamaca Guesthouse has much night life. We are located in a typical neighborhood, 4 short blocks from the main square. We are kid/family friendly with Pac nPlays available along with a highchair. Gays & lesbians are welcomed. Handicapped (in wheelchairs) are welcomed; one of our rooms is not quite ADA compliant but is fully ramped from the parking area. People in recovery are also welcomed.
Use the pool (until 9:00PM) or the veranda, have a drink or a snack in the jungle-view palapa restaurant/bar. Wander the gardens. Check out our collection of art and artifacts. Gates are closed at 10:00PM; if you think you will be out later, we will give you a key and show you how to lock up when you get in (quietly so you do not disturb the other guests).
Interaction with Guests
I try to get to know every guest. Our slogan is "check in as a stranger, check out as a friend"
Our neighborhood is the real Mexico (Yucatan version). A small park is right in front of us where the local school has PE during the morning and all of the locals gather in the evening to enjoy the playground or just hang with their friends. Very few tourists in our neighborhood but lots of friendly neighbors. We are just 4 blocks from the main square (and all the tourist stuff). Two really good restaurants very close. Safe to walk around. But you must watch where your feet are going on the narrow sidewalks and, if you are tall, watch that you do not walk into low balconies.
Frequent taxis (20 pesos for most local fares) and local busses and combis (shared vans) are right at our park. Easy walking distance from amost all attractions. The main bus station is within walking distance; buses to Merida, and Cancun as well as Chichen Itza, Tulum and Ek Balam.
Other Things to Note
Massage available, Spanish language classes available. Both require advance notice and reservations.
No smoking indoors. Gates close at 10:00 PM. If you plan on being out later, we will give you a key and expect you to lock up and turn off the light when you get back. You must be respectful of other guests. Breakfast buffet (granola, yoghurt, fruit plate, sweet rolls, coffee and tea) is usually available by 6:30 AM. Breakfast is available anytime after 6:30 AM but we like you to give the chef notice the prior evening of approximately the time you would like breakfast. Pool open until 9:00PM. No jumping, diving or glasses or glass bottles. No pets allowed. However, cats live here.
