A lovely house built in the ruins of an ancient castle. The room is a little small but comfortable, and nicely fitted out. Having breakfast in the garden was lovely. The views are beautiful and an easy drive to Perugia and the lake. Very quiet and peaceful.
Are hosts were delightful.
We would like to say a big NZ "GRAZIE!!!" to Luigi, Luicella and Billy for our four night stay in the Fontignano, the heart of Umbria. They are without doubt the kindest and nicest people ever! If you want somewhere to stay during your Umbrian tour, then do not look anywhere else. We had the best time here and would 100% recommend staying at the Castle. As in a previous post, we have very poor Italian, and luigi and luicella speak little English, but we had great fun with (website hidden) translater late into the night. From the castle you can get everwhere in umbria within and hour or so. Orvieto, Perugia, Todi, Assis, civita di bagnoregio and many others. Castelione del lago is only 25 mins away. This is the perfect stepping stone to Umbria. We could have stayed many more days but alas, we had to move on. The room was perfect, and met all our needs. It was one of the highlits of our trip to Italy. Thanks a lot guys, wishing you all the best, Mikayla and Garrick.
This B&B is located on the most amazing property with castle ruins, grapevines, olive trees and a beautiful view. Hosts were extremely gracious & made us very welcome. Highly recommend staying here!
This was our most memorable lodging out of our whole 3-week trip in Italy. Luigi and Luicella were the most gracious, energetic, and hospitable hosts we have ever had. The location is a bit difficult to locate (without GPS in the car), but once we arrived my wife and I were amazed that we had this whole hilltop, olive grove, picturesque, Umbrian/Tuscan sunset to ourselves. They speak very little English, and we speak no Italian and that ended up being one of the most entertaining experiences for us. They tried really hard to communicate with us, and it ended up being really fun!
On top of that we arrived late the first night and had no access to a grocery store, so Luigi and Luicella ended up taking us to a Fiesta in a neighboring town where we had delicious food and great wine and an enjoyable evening with the two of them.
The room is small but VERY clean and nice, with an amazing bathroom! It comes with a stove and a mini-fridge, but be forewarned that in a small town like this, supermarkets close early. The room also comes with a TV with cable, but all in Italian. Typical Italian breakfast each morning in your room or outside on one of the many shaded tables. There are only 2 rooms at this B&B so you have tons of privacy, even if there are other guests staying there.
Luigi has spent 10 years building this B&B, and you can really see it in the details, as well as their level of hospitality. Can't say enough about them and their place. We look forwarding to staying there the next time we are in Italy.
Our stay with Luigi and Luisella was wonderful! They have done so much to make this place beautiful and comfortable. The scenery from the top of the property is awesome. Inside, everything has been done elegantly and thoughtfully. I was a little aprehensive about the steep climb up the narrow road, but I got used to it quickly and loved arriving at the castle. There are several little private sitting areas around the property where you can sit and have breakfast, or enjoy a bottle of wine while watching the lights come on in the towns below. We very highly recommend this place and these people!
