Don't think twice. The heart of the heart of lovely quiet neighborhood, one step from coffee shops, restaurants, movie theater, yet- peaceful, calm and green! A public parking lot is just next to the house for your maximum convenient. The access to public transportation is fantastic, less than 2 minutes to the train and the bus stop. You couldn't ask for more!! :).
One request please: When you get to our place please DO NOT ring the bell or the intercom, as these are of the neighbors. As you can see from the pics, we have a private entrance. Thanks!!
Unfortunately, I have to give a bad review because this was a very stressful experience for me. I had booked 3 nights with Ela. Two nights over the weekend and a Tuesday night. I had planned carefully to find a location that was walking distance to my daughter's place who I was visiting. A few hours prior to my flight to Boston, Ela contacted us and said that there were 8 young people staying at her place (which she had forgotten about) and they were going to be having a birthday party and it would be better it I found alternative accommodations. She said she would reimburse me for the difference in cost. My daughter and I had no choice but to contact hotels at short notice. The one hotel within reasonable distance to my daughter was about 300 a night and I did not want to impose this cost on Ela. The only other place I could find turned out to be a bad living situation with peeling wallpaper, wires out of the ceiling, broken ceiling tiles etc. I asked Ela to make a reservation for me instead of reimbursing me. She said she had to attend her class and did not have her credit card on her. She also wanted to negotiate if I would cover half the difference in price, which I could not agree to. Eventually, after many phone calls, stress, and delay to the airport I put the room on my credit card with Ela’s promise for reimbursement. I called her while in Boston to make sure I could enter her apartment on Tuesday at night. She said she may or may not be there but I can try stopping by and to call her. Her phone did not work, but by chance we found her outside her apartment, she said her batteries had died. Anyway, it was decided she would leave the door unlocked so I could get in at night. When we got there there the door was locked. The entrance is very dark and when we called her she told us where to find the key. We got in and she said she would be there in 20 minutes. An hour later she did not still come so I called again and she finally came after 10:30 at night and reimbursed the money. The place does not look as clean and appealing as in the pictures. Although the bathroom and kitchen were very clean, the bedroom carpet was stained and had not even been vacuumed and had a lot of obvious dirt and debris. This was a bad experience. I think Ela is very busy, hard to reach, and unable to stay organized and manage this business. The conversations on the phone with her always left me with an uncertainly about whether things would work out as suggested. This uncertainty was difficult. I have a daughter in Boston who could help me but for a lone visitor this would have been a...
Ela was a wonderful host! She was really great communicating with me, and I was able to get to her place very easily. The room was very comfortable and warm, which is nice to have on a snowy day in the Boston area! The experience overall was wonderful.
Ela was welcoming and very friendly. We had some trouble to communicate in the beginning since the phone numbers didn't match, but she arranged her schedule to welcome me to her house, which I really appreciated. The room was very comfortable and warm. Her apartment is very well situated, and close to public transport. Overall, a very good stay!
Ela was welcoming and friendly, and the room was very comfortable. It was in exactly the right location for me, and even though parking is a hassle in Bookline, the Babcock St. parking lot is right across the street so it was not so bad. Her apartment is in the heart of Coolidge Corner so it was easy to walk everywhere I needed to go. I will definitely stay at Ela's place again.
Fue buena, la habitación estaba aseada, contaba con los elementos para descansar y la atención de ELA fue buena.
Ela has a clean, spacious apartment that is ideally situated. It is really close to the university and many bars, shops, and restaurants. She is very nice and accommodating, and kept asking if we needed anything.
Besides this, however, we did not have a good experience unfortunately. I contacted Ela early in the day to let her know we'd be in around 10:00 PM. I contacted her via AirBnB. I contacted her again later in the day via text, and when she didn't respond, I contacted her again via AirBnB. Still no response. At 10:20, about 20 minutes past when we were supposed to arrive (I told her in every message we'd be there at 10), I called her multiple times and still got no response.Fortunately I was with friends who had a car, but I normally travel alone via public transportation-- if I had been standing out in two degree weather with no idea if she was coming to let me in or not, I would have been extremely stressed. She did finally respond and said she thought we were arriving at 10:30 and that she'd be home in 10 minutes. It took at least 25 minutes and my thought process was, if you thought our arrival time was 10:30, then why were you not home until 10:45 anyway? It didn't make sense.
But once we got inside everything seemed fine-- Ela even set up a third mattress for us complete with sheets/pillows without our even asking, since we were traveling as three people. But then... she told us since that morning the heat had not been working properly. She apologized and gave us extra blankets so we could try to keep warm.
I completely understand circumstances being beyond her control. However, if she knew the heat wasn't working, she shouldn't have accepted our reservation, or let us know the situation so we could either cancel, or at least bring space heaters-- which we would have been happy to do, and would have really improved the situation. It literally got so cold during the night that we could see our breath in front of our faces. There seemed to be no insulation from the window-- if you put your hand near it, it felt as cold as being outside. And it was 2 degrees out.
I checked the the thermostat in the living room, which was significantly warmer than our room (and this was in the morning when the sun had been up) and it read 48 degrees. I have no idea what temperature it got to during the night in our room, but I'm guessing it was extremely cold.
All the other reviews seem to oppose my experience, so I'm hoping this was a one time thing and an unfortunate incident that would not necessarily be the experience of other travelers. Ela has a nice place and seems like a nice person so I don't mean to warn off the apartment in general, but just share my experience.
Great host and location, very clean and warm
I had a wonderful stay with Ela, she was really nice and helpful, just like the city of Boston, made me feeling warm and happy no matter how cold the whether was. The place was nice and spacious, definitely will your first choice when traveling to Boston!
The place is great - located in the middle of Brookline, not far from the Coolidge Corner green line, CVS, Panera Bread and Trader Joe's.
The room and the bathroom are very neat, accurate, the linen an towels are fresh, and there are even candy on top of the towels.
Ela is a great, thoughtful and sociable host, very nice to talk to.
Would definitely recommend!
