About This Listing
Nestled among Mount Tamalpais' majestic old-growth redwoods is a chalet Hansel and Gretel would feel at home in..and a fully equipped apartment with a separate entry and private patio. The view stretches across San Francisco Bay to the Oakland hills and beyond. The size of the property, 2.5 acres, ensures peace and quiet. Downtown San Francisco is 25 minutes – and a million miles – (website hidden). Tam's hiking, running and biking trails are at hand. Mill Valley via the Dipsea Steps is an easy 20 minute walk (and a challenging uphill return). The location is very central for tourist destinations, and very secluded and private for those needing rest and relaxation.
The legacy of the original proprietor, photographer and author Suki Hill, who lived in the home since 1972, will be carried on by her daughter, Abigail Hill and her stalwart of stalwarts, Charles Keppel.
Sadly, Suki passed away June 14, 2014.
The rental is the lower floor of a wonderful, characterful Mill Valley home, built in the late 1930's.There is a sunny patio outside the apartment with spectacular views of San Francisco Bay and overlooking rose and dahlia gardens. A short stroll down driveway leads to another "secret" garden with a small pavilion for quiet reflection or yoga. The home is also close to Muir Woods and the beautiful Hwy.1 coast. One can drive to the wine country in an hour .
Guests will have a private entrance and designated parking space.
Well-behaved pets allowed, smoking on patio only. There are two full-sized (or double) beds and a sofa bed (twin-sized) for an additional guest @$25/night.
We are so happy we found this place! The view is breathtaking and everything else about it is magical. The house is perfect if you’re looking for a simple, unpretentious place to relax. We liked taking walks along the wavy road and soaking in the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Our host Abby was welcoming and helpful with ideas for places to go visit near by. She was easy to communicate with and very accommodating.
We took her suggestions and enjoyed a day in the Muir Woods Park where you can see some of the oldest and tallest sequoia trees. Driving to the Marin Headlands offers the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge and great photo ops. Sonoma is about an hour or so away if you want to visit the vineyards and try some of California’s best wines. Our favorite is Cline.
The apartment was comfy and charming. The kitchenette is perfect for cooking simple dinners. You can grab groceries at Whole Foods, which is about 10 minutes drive from the house. Sausalito is near by and has many good restaurants too.
The entire place transcends peace and harmony and we’ll remember forever the great moments we enjoyed there.
Thank you, its a great place with fantastic view, we will never forget these days. 5 stars appartement , reg Stefan
What a special place!!! This place is on top of the world, or so it seemed. The views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge were breathtaking. The space is cosy and welcoming. The flowers along with the lemon and orange trees were a special treat. We hiked in Mier Woods and enjoyed great food. Our host was a very special lady who shared her world with us and her world is SPECIAL. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place.
Abby and her helper, Charlie, were great communicators and the entire stay went very smoothly. Abby has two friendly dogs, but they do not come into the B&B space unless invited.
The view from Abby's place is just incredible, the pictures don't do it justice. There are orange and lemon trees loaded with fruit. The beds are comfortable and we slept well.
If you're looking for a place with a great 60's-70's California ambiance, look no further.
Word of warning - if you're uncomfortable with narrow mountain roads, this might not be the place for you!
Not the best experience for us. Sorry it didn't work out.
