About this listing
Suki's mountain retreat is nestled up on Mt. Tam in the redwoods with beautiful views East looking over Mill Valley and out across to the East Bay. It has a private parking space, entrance and patio looking over the rose garden.
Nestled among Mount Tamalpais' majestic old-growth redwoods is a chalet Hansel and Gretel would feel at home in..and a fully equipped apartment with a separate entry and private patio. The view stretches across San Francisco Bay to the Oakland hills and beyond. The size of the property, 2.5 acres, ensures peace and quiet. Downtown San Francisco is 25 minutes – and a million miles – (website hidden). Tam's hiking, running and biking trails are at hand. Mill Valley via the Dipsea Steps is an easy 20 minute walk (and a challenging uphill return). The location is very central for tourist destinations, and very secluded and private for those needing rest and relaxation.
The legacy of the original proprietor, photographer and author Suki Hill, who lived in the home since 1972, will be carried on by her daughter, Abigail Hill.
Sadly, Suki passed away June 14, 2014.
The rental is the lower floor of a wonderful, characterful Mill Valley home, built in the late 1930's.There is a sunny patio outside the apartment with spectacular views of San Francisco Bay and overlooking rose and dahlia gardens. A short stroll down driveway leads to another "secret" garden with a small pavilion for quiet reflection or yoga. The home is also close to Muir Woods and the beautiful Hwy.1 coast. One can drive to the wine country in an hour .
Guests are welcome to explore the property.
This is a very quiet neighborhood, a lot of the people who live up here have lived up here for a long time and get along very well and are very helpful if you bump into them on the street and have questions.
Not necessary but advisable that you have a car up here. Unless you are up for doing some hiking to get down into town. It is about a 20 minute walk from the house to get to downtown Mill Valley where there are shops and restaurants. Longer getting back as it is all uphill. I have had people stay without a car, but they're looking for the ability to really get away and enjoy the seclusion of being up on the mountain here.
Well-behaved dogs considered, smoking on patio only. There are two full-sized (or double) beds and a sofa bed (twin-sized) for an additional guest @$25/night.
Abby made us feel very welcome. Awesome spot with an awesome view! Thanks again :)
Cute & cozy cottage - stayed here for a girls trip and it was perfect! Beautiful views and tucked away in the woods on a hill, you will love it! The host, Abby, was great to work with also.
We had a good time at this location and it was exactly as advertised. Abigail stayed up very late so she could welcome us upon our arrival and was very nice!
Suki's Mountain Retreat was great. Me and my family had a great time there. Abby was super nice. We arrived late(around 1am in the morning), Abby got to work next morning but she waited for us and got us some food. Also the scenery was better than lots of state parks. Highly recommended!
We had a blissful retreat at Suki's--the setting is spectacular, with the sun and fog and lights and darkness playfully changing throughout our stay. Abby was wonderful and we've already signed up for another visit.
Abby isvery helpful and welcoming. I personally was greeted by her cute dogs when I arrived. =)
The space is quiet it has everything you need. The view is stunning and since it's facing East - check out the sunrise!
Thanks again Abby for hosting us. 5-stars!!!
Very nice stay. Abby was a perfect host. The rooms are nice and clean and the view to the bay is fantastic. To see the dawn is like a dream. Abby gave us charcoil and starter in addition. It was a great BBQ. We can recommend it highly. We want to stay there again.
About the Host, Abigail
My mother Suki started doing Airbnb a number of years back and I am continuing it on. I enjoy getting to share what I feel is a very unique, beautiful piece of property with others. As well as getting the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting travelers that I would never otherwise cross paths with.
