The POD (portable outdoor dwelling), also known as Mela (apple in Italian) was built in 2009 and has been a sought after space amongst our friends and now the airbnb community. Incredibly cozy dwelling detached from the house and in our garden!

The Space

Beautiful portable outdoor dwelling (POD) located in the heart of Santa Monica. In the backyard of a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house located in a gorgeous garden. Beautiful fully stocked cook's kitchen, and we have some amazing meals here! Gorgeous stone bathroom and lots of hangout space in the garden. Fire pit, tree house and yoga space. The POD features space for sleeping on the first level and/(email hidden)ry comfortable and relaxing space! The house mates are worldly and super friendly crew of artists that love meeting new peeps.

The location is very central! We are walking distance to the Promenade, the Pier, the beach is 1.5 miles away from the house, about a 25 minute walk. Venice Beach is 2.8 miles and a 45 minute walk along the lovely beach. Hollywood is easy to get to either by taking the famous route 66 via Santa Monica Blvd that is a block away from our house or taking the 10 freeway (less than one mile from our house). Hollywood is only 15 miles away. There are lots of amazing museums like the Getty, LACMA and so much more!

There is no smoking in the POD or the house but you can smoke outside if you dispose of your ciggarette butts before you leave. Thanks for being a respectful smoker!

Guest Access

The main house with chef's kitchen, beautiful stone tiled bathroom with shower, living room with musical instruments, 3 patio areas, treehouse and the POD, of course!

Interaction with Guests

There are 3 permanent residents that live on the property. If any of them are in the house, we will welcome you with questions, sharing meals and recommending places to go. They may be other renters visiting us and you will get an opportunity to make more new friends...this has happened before at our home....many times! ;)

The Neighborhood

It's peaceful, safe and central. We are walking distance to the beach, close to the freeway, and buses. Tons of great restaurants in the area, the Pier, the Promenade, the best farmers market in the world, the mountains and so much more!

Getting around

Very easy to get around, by foot, bike, bus, or car. We are a 15 minute walking distance to the beach, the pier and the Promenade (which has lots of stores, restaurants and movie theaters).

  • Yoooo Airbnbers,
My stay in the garden pod was amazing, supper peaceful, and relaxing!!
Guzel showed me the place and was kind enough to point me in a good direction for finding things! It's a little bit of a walk to the beach...a mile or so, but I was in no rush so walked there both days of my stay, or an Uber cab ride was like $5. Same story for restaurants, little bit of a walk, or cheap Uber ride! Ate out at "Tar & Roses", amazing food and environment, much recommended! Also, there was a Cute coffee shop right around the corner from the garden pod...which was a big plus for me!!

  • Sleeping in the POD and hanging out in the beautiful garden was great! Felt like far away from the traffic and volume of LA.
You can reach the Santa Monica Peer and the beach by a relatively long walk or use the bus. But both is no problem. We always walked and enjoyed the city :-)
Unfortunately we didn't meet Guzel in person but her roommates and especially Gidget were very lovely and helpful!
You might find it unfamiliar to go from the POD into the house to use the bathroom at first but you’ll soon get used to it.
In our trip through California living at Guzels was easily one of the most remarkable and outstanding accomodations.
    Don't hesitate to write her!

  • Guzel (email hidden)! Super friendly , caring and a great communicator. I am finding more and more as I use airbnb over the years that the host has a lot to do with your experience. It is important to feel welcomed and at home. Guzel did a great job of providing that. The eco dwelling is super cool. It is almost like a yurt but in a lotus shape almost. I really enjoyed it .But for short stays its great and the environment in the garden is very special.

  • This was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had! I was attending a week long yoga training, and coming back every night to the Giving Garden and this little pod made my time in LA almost a Zen experience. The housemates were loving and fantastic, there's an awesome market nearby, the cats were adorable and the vibe was just what I needed. I plan on returning to west LA soon simply to spend more time in Guzel's Giving Garden.

  • I had a fantastic stay in the pod - sleeping in the middle of the garden is heavenly! Guzel and everyone in the house were super friendly and easy going, and it was great to meet such interesting people. Having the food coop around the corner is also a huge plus :)

I hope to stay here again the next time I'm in Santa Monica :)

  • Our time at the Giving Garden could not have been better. My wife and I spent our time very comfortably in the pod, and everyone who lived there was so kind! We are looking forward to future trips where we can stay again. If you get the chance, this is easiest the coolest, most unique, friendliest place to spend time in Santa Monica.

I'm a lover of life! Love creating beautiful environments, fun times with friends and family, cooking delicious food, meeting new people and laughing till my stomach hurts. I'm an environmentalist and an activist. At our home, we compost, don't use chemicals to clean, nor do we use paper towels. Hand old school! I love traveling. My preference is to stay with locals and see their perspective. I also like staying in places for more than a week...preferably a few months to really get it's essence. I'm very laid back and don't get to stressed about stuff in life. Why's all going to unfold as it should! Our communal house consists of artists that are living the dream. It's a very special household indeed. Hope you get to be here during one of our will meet the creme dela creme of LA! ;)
