Paradise for the creatives in Tulum

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Hectares Km, Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico

The Space

We are Residencia Gorila, a creative family from around the world that decided to live in paradise and work form there in everything that has to do with film, art, design and the communication industry.

Our concept:
Integrate and connect talent form around the world to generate innovative projects through our different options:

1) Creative traveler: if you work in the same field than us and you are planning your vacations in Tulum, this is "the place" to be. Let us be your host and stay in one of our rooms sharing paradise with same-minded people. Special prices for creative people.

2) Creative Resident: If you are creative and want to take a break from cold weather, your boring job or want to explore new posibilities in paradise, contact us and ask us about our resident exchange program. If you edit, film, desing webpages/graphics, animate, or do any artistic activity. Contact us! Your stay might be for free and for long term.

We are not a 5 star hotel, nor do we give a 5 star service.
Remember we are a group of friends (more than hotel) that want you to have a relaxed time and want to help you with the best tips, activities and experiences. Our goal is to make you feel like local!

This is our home and working place, so you will see people working with their computers, cameras or painting, sometimes we might look busy, but we will always help you with what you need.

Why stay with us?

By booking with us you only will have a great time, also you know that all money goes to support the resident artists and the social/environmental project we do together.

Everything is possible in Residencia Gorila!

Good facts to know before you come to us:

- Access to beach: The place we have access to the beach doesn't belong to us and its controlled by land owners putting a time for using that access form 7 am - 10 pm. This door is only to access to beach, littering and leaving trash or something can be a motif to deny access again. So please be respectful with the beach so we all can enjoy it. If you want to go for a midnight walk there are other near access you can go trough.

- We try to be as environmental friendly as possible, so we do not offer fresh water in the taps, its safe enough to brush your teeth with, but not for drinking. We offer drinking water for free to our guests.

- We are in the jungle so don’t get surprised if you see a scorpion (not deadly ones), crabs,or geckos or any other insects.

- The water in the showers comes from the cenotes, we need to pump it up with a generator to our tank. That’s why it’s very important to be aware about how you consume it.

- Our energy comes from solar panels, its limited and also here it’s important to be aware about how you consume energy. Its good enough to charge your phone and computers, but using a hair dryer will kill the batteries.

Tulum has been growing very fast the last 2 years, and PARKING is becoming a problem. We highly encourage our guest to use bikes instead of cars. We cant guarantee a parking place but there are some places around.

The rooms we rent used to be apartments. That’s why they have a stove. BUT none of them are in use. So when you rent a room it does not come with a kitchen.

  • If you are browsing places in Tulum and even thinking about going my best advice is GO - and stay at Residencia Gorilla! It's most certainly a magical town made even better by staying here. It's seriously ridiculous, everyone is gorgeous, creative, talented and smart, as well as super helpful. For a small fee, we also enjoyed breakfasts in the morning which were delicious (seriously get eggs while your there and Ally's chai) and made the mornings much easier than hunting for food.

  • Afonso was a great host. We arrived to see the most amazing sunset on the roof. The room was great. It had a really cute private balcony perfect for star gazing.

We had an amazing time, Afonso's place is really great, I greatly recommend it.

  • Residencia Gorila is an awesome place to stay in Tulum!! Great people, great vibe, and super chic accommodations! Alfonso and the Gorila family made us feel so welcome and were all so helpful. It was great to be surrounded by fun, creative people, and if we felt like socializing, there was always someone interesting to talk to. We loved our stay there and look forward to going back again soon.

  • Actually I can not tell how my stay in the "Paradise for the creatives in Tulum" was... because there was no stay at all... Unfortunately we got overbooked (And we booked the room three months in advance...!)... As I came to know it just a couple of days before (We were already in Miami for vacations) it was really unfavorable for us... Instead of 5 nights we spent just 4 nights in Tulum and moved one day earlier to Playa del Carmen. The first night we slept in a real simple room also part of the residence. The next morning we searched for another location, which we found after a couple of hours =)(just for 3 nights more :( --> High season)
But I also would like to say, that the Gorilla residence and the rest of the rooms looked absolutley nice and Jaqueline the Swiss (Part of the Staff) was super friendly, helpful and she was really disappoionted for this bad situation (Not her fault).
So... my advise... If you book a room in the gorilla residence, be sure you really get it =) and check it befor you go!

  • If you're looking for a place that's more creative, communal and natural than a traditional hotel, then Residencia Gorila is your perfect place. I just came back from my second trip there and can't wait to return!

  • Great people, nice and clean room, amazing rooftop star-gazing (if you get the penthouse). This is an affordable, comfortable and cool place to stay and hang out in the best past of Tulum. Alfonso and Liva are really sweet - as is the rest of the creative crew. They throw cool parties too :)

  • Residencia Gorila is a very special place with very special people. Alfonso, Jose, Liva, and everyone else could not have been more welcoming, kind, and helpful in making our trip as great as possible.

We stayed in the loft, which is 2 floors and very bright and spacious. The food was delicious, and bikes are available to rent which was very convenient. The beach is just across the street, and not at all crowded.

All in all, Residencia Gorila is an incredible place that I couldn't recommend more highly. If you want to hang out with cool creative people in paradise, this is the place!

Thank you!! We will be back :)

  • My girlfriend Geena and I arrived at Residencia Gorila on Oct 4th, 2013, and stayed for 13 days.
We enjoyed our stay in the Penthouse, which was clean, real nice, and had a roof with big, big, sky all over it... ..superb Moon/Stars/Sunsets

The idea behind Gorila is to provide a Habitat where creative travelers can exchange Artful thoughts, and have a blast doing it.

The Residencia is small and laid back, with a comfortable intimacy, that is often punctuated with laughter and (kate moss!) ..and Bar B Qs ..and drinks
    .. and moonlit beach.... etc

Our incredible and generous Hosts: Alfonso, Hugo, and Kate Moss truly set a stage where a bunch of travelers from around the world arrived separately at Gorila, and ended up Together, as Family... it's a Love thing, I guess... .. amazing ....

  • Unfortunately it rained mostly throughout my stay. Other than that Tulum is very beautiful and relaxing. Residencia Gorila covers the basics. The guys were very welcoming, polite and respected my privacy.
