The Space

Amazing views of the National Park on 2.5 acres. Very peaceful and quiet, partially fenced with cactus gardens and wildlife. Large house with two bedrooms, one full bath, living room plus a den and bonus room PLUS three vintage trailers. Two queen beds (one is memory foam, the other pillow top).
Roomy full kitchen with a fridge and electric stove, cooking supplies and extra large bench seating area. Off the kitchen is the den with a wood stove, and bar seating that opens into kitchen. Extra room in back with a sleeper couch.

Newly built outdoor bathhouse with open air shower and hot water (this is in addition in indoor full bathroom). Flush toilet, not an outhouse in the classic sense!

The trailers are currently being transformed by visiting artists. One is a vintage dessert explosion, covered in plaster-cast fruit and silicone icing. Another is "off the grid" (only battery lights) on the other end of the property, complete with CB radio to connect with the main house, twin bunk beds and amazing private vistas. Another has an underwater theme, and boasts a queen bed, sink, stove and private flush toilet.
For more info on the artists and this project, search Rancho Paradiso Joshua Tree Artists Residency.

The Neighborhood

Right on the border of Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree, it's the best of both worlds - space, privacy and views but still an easy quick drive to all the shopping and restaurants if needed.

Getting around

Just a few houses down from the main paved road - enough for peace and quiet without a long bumpy dirt road drive! About 4 miles to the National Park welcome center, 2-3 miles from shopping centers.

Other Things to Note

Don't forget firewood if you would like to use the wood stove or fire pit!

  • This place was more than amazing! Such an awesome house and so much room that held a big group of us. We cooked, lounged, and relaxed everyday easily. The trailers were a unique addition that were absolutely put to use! What I liked most was the backyard and it's view. This is the best place to get away from the city and relax and I would absolutely recommend this place, especially for a large group!

  • This place was awesome

  • We enjoyed staying at this home. There was plenty of space for our big party of 7.

The view was great from the back of the home. We loved making making a fire in the firepit. I also liked playing LPs on the record player. The ride into Joshua Tree Park was fast and easy. It was very easy getting to stores and cafes.

Kelly was very helpful and responsive. She helped us get into the house easily and brought us eggs from her chickens in the morning.

The house is a work in progress, as other reviewers have mentioned. If I were coming to Joshua Tree with a smaller group I'd probably get a slightly more swank rental for a bit more money. But this was perfect for a big group of folks. Our experience here was good.

  • Kelly is very responsive and the space is great! Pictures definitely don;t lie. Theres a wonderful backyard space and front yard swings are homey. Beds were all comfy and Kelly was super friendly through out the process. I'd highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Joshua Tree.

  • I stayed at Kelly's place with a big group of friends for NYE and it was perfect. We loved the trailers, the fire pit, and the swing set. The desert setting was fantastic. The place is feels very remote but it is a short drive from the center of town and from the entrance to Joshua Tree.

The kitchen worked well to make dinner for ten. Though I do recommend bringing your own equipment if you want to do anything fancy. I was planning a birthday cake, so I brought my own pan and measuring spoons and whisk.

Kelly had everything set up for us and made sure we had all the instructions we needed for the trailer and outdoor shower water/heating.

All in all it was great!!! We would definitely go back.

  • Kelly was SO easy to work with! Her home is nestled in a quiet, cozy neighborhood, and is central to everything (well 'everything' we needed- JTree park entrances, cute food/ waterhole options, right off the main road).
Kelly's recommendations were on point- great pizza at Pizza for the People, JTree Saloon made for an early dinner and band watching/ socializing evening.
The house itself is simple yet eclectic- perfect for what we needed- full kitchen, comfy beds, and the outside table was perfect for our breakfast planning sessions.
    Thanks so much Kelly!

  • Great spot for a cozy stay right near the park. Kelly was very responsive and considerate. Would stay here again for sure.

    November 2013
  • We absolutely loved Kelly's house, every single bit of it. We hope to be back soon!

    October 2013
  • We had a lovely time at Kelly's desert house. She was sweet and prompt in communications, and offered us some eggs from her chickens. We enjoyed hanging on the back patio, listening to music and the silence of the desert night.

Artist living mostly in Joshua Tree, CA (with a little time in LA) where I have a small flock of chickens, a dog, two goats and two donkeys. So I'm not TOO far away from LA if something comes up. I've expanded out here in Yucca Valley from renting the studio attached to my home to the house next door plus one down the road. I bought this house in LA along with the home on the hill behind it in 1999, and they are like a part of the family. A tad rustic, but lots of charm. I love that I can be so close to the hustle bustle of one of the greatest cities in the US, yet still have hummingbirds on my porch and occasional raccoons or skunks in the yard. I've tried to leave, but always come back!
