Amazing views of the National Park on 2.5 acres. Very peaceful and quiet, partially fenced with cactus gardens and wildlife. Large house with two bedrooms, one full bath, living room plus a den and bonus room PLUS three vintage trailers (extra cost to add on trailers). Two queen beds (one is memory foam, the other pillow top).
Roomy full kitchen with a fridge and electric stove, cooking supplies and extra large bench seating area. Off the kitchen is the den with a wood stove, and bar seating that opens into kitchen. Extra room in back with a sleeper couch.
There are two evaporative coolers (desert air conditioning) that cool the house down well.
WIFI and a small TV with DVD player and selection of movies. Record player, board games, a collection of musical instruments and lots of books to keep you busy!
Newly built outdoor bathhouse with open air shower (this is in addition in indoor full bathroom). Flush toilet, not an outhouse in the classic sense!
There are three trailers for extra sleeping areas that have been transformed by visiting artists. One is a vintage dessert explosion, covered in plaster-cast fruit and silicone icing. Another is "off the grid" (only battery lights) on the other end of the property, complete with CB radio to connect with the main house, twin bunk beds and amazing private vistas.
Trailers are locked unless reserved for an additional $50 each per night. The pricing is set up this way so we can accommodate just 2 people or 10. Trailers are not rented separately, so you have privacy no matter the number of guests.
Additional dining table on the back patio, with a small charcoal BBQ and a fire pit.
Interaction with Guests
Your hostess is less than a mile down the road, and you're welcome to arrange a visit to meet the donkeys, goats and chickens that live there!
Usually a key is left for arriving guests, so that they can follow their own schedule for check in.
Check my guide for local recommendations.
Right on the border of Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree, it's the best of both worlds - space, privacy and views but still an easy quick drive to all the shopping and restaurants if needed.
Just a few houses down from the main paved road - enough for peace and quiet without a long bumpy dirt road drive! About 4 miles to the National Park welcome center, 2-3 miles from shopping centers.
Other Things to Note
Don't forget firewood if you would like to use the wood stove or fire pit!
Please read entire listing before renting. No smoking in the house, please!
While neighbors aren't close, loud noise can carry out under the open skies, so please try to keep it down late at night.
The peaceful cactus house is just the respite we needed from stressful city livin'. It felt like home; warm, clean, welcoming. Appointed with funky bits of vintage gear--including a groovy little suitcase turntable of which we took full advantage--this cozy casa is nestled in a sparse, quiet neighborhood, yet comfortably close to town for shopping, eating, and exploring. We were thrilled that there was no television, opting to spend our evenings stargazing by the fire, listening to records, and playing a friendly game of Scrabble or Clue. The kitchen was equipped for light cooking, and the property was spacious enough to host a tribe of friends or family. While my boyfriend and I were grateful for some alone time, we lamented that we couldn't share the experience with our favorite adventure buddies. It's just a great place to hang. Thanks again, Kelly!
Kelly was very easy to communicate with and her place was easy to find. It's right off of the main highway to Joshua Tree and an an easy hopskipjump to Joshua Tree and the park. Lots of good little eating spots within distance. The house itself is very functional for 2-4 or 6 people. Beds are comfy - one soft and one more firm. The backyard and the fire pit were the highlights for me---beautiful cactus, a 260 degree view, and Ella Fitzgerald singing softly from the old vinyl record player. Plenty of towels and kitchen materials. My friend used to live in Joshua Tree and was fantasizing about this being her house.
Kelly's place is even better than it looks in the listing. There's a big saguaro cactus in the back yard. The location is wonderful. Really pretty & quiet, but only 10 minutes to town. Everything was clean and worked well. We didn't meet Kelly in person, but she was very friendly and responsive via message. The bed was comfortable, and the sunrise was amazing out the window. I liked the decor of the house, too. The lenticular squirrel art is the best! Would definitely stay here again.
What a great place. Exactly as described and then some: a peaceful and quiet retreat with everything I needed (thanks Kelly!), beautiful views, and a very quiet neighborhood. And if you are a birder like me, all you have to do is sit out in the patio and wait two minutes :=). Cactus wrens, California quail, ladder-backed woodpeckers, roadrunners, verdins, white-crowned sparrows, the list goes on.
Kelly lives just down the road, so the house is very private. Even so, she was a fabulous and very helpful host. I am definitely coming back!
Had a great time staying in Yucca Valley at this listing. The house had a great vibe to it. Very artistic in style and retro at the same time, really enjoyed it there. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking to visit Joshua Tree National Park as it is only a few miles away from the entrance. Kelly the owner is very friendly and communicates with you in a timely manner. We loved our stay and will definitely be back for more star gazing in the summer.

About the Host, Kelly
Artist living mostly in Joshua Tree, CA (with a little time in LA) where I have a small flock of chickens, a dog, two goats and two donkeys. So I'm not TOO far away from LA if something comes up. I've expanded out here in Yucca Valley from renting the studio attached to my home to the house next door plus one down the road.
I bought this house in LA along with the home on the hill behind it in 1999, and they are like a part of the family. A tad rustic, but lots of charm. I love that I can be so close to the hustle bustle of one of the greatest cities in the US, yet still have hummingbirds on my porch and occasional raccoons or skunks in the yard. I've tried to leave, but always come back!
